From Russia With Love

Reformed Coffee Snob

roman coffee k-cup.JPGI love coffee
It started when I worked for a little coffee company you may have heard of that has a mermaid as their logo.  As part of my job I was trained as a "Coffee Master" and still have the business card to prove it.  I still think that has got to be one of the coolest job titles.  To earn that designation I studied coffee, conducted coffee tasting, gave new employee workshops and spent a lot of time savoring the intricacies that make for a superior cup of joe.

I left the company to pursue a career in other forms of higher education but the love of coffee stuck with me.  I brewed my organic, fairly traded, fresh roasted coffee in a french press.  I made delightful espresso beverages in my Italian made espresso machine and appreciated perfect foam as an art form.

The pursuit of motherhood landed my in a city that has cappuccinos from heaven.  Every day between visits to the orphanage when I was unable to be with Roman,  I would sit in the cafe, writing in my journal, skyping home and sipping on "Капучино с корицей Cappuccino with cinnamon.

It was a little cuppa comfort in a foreign place.

Once I was home with Roman my relationship with coffee changed.  It became essential fuel to combat the time change, jet lag and sleep deprivation.  The coffee press process that I once enjoyed became a chore and bottle preparation trumped my time for first activities upon waking.

So I began to look at alternatives and found new coffee love in the form of a machine with the ability to brew my coffee for me.  Mommy's little helper can be set the night before so I wake up to a steamy brew ready to be poured.  Brilliant!

An added bonus, Roman now knows the little ring of the machine when the coffee is ready and does a little clap and dance when it calls in the morning... well, actually we both do.

Cheers!  So mama's, how do you take your coffee?

Gotta hand it to a girl that can sip a steamy coffee with one hand and manage to steer a stroller through a holiday filled mall with the other! We all have our addictions and Coke Zero is "mommy's juice" as Aryanna's says! I just need her to be tall enough to open the fridge and I am all set!

I like my coffee hot, with a slash of milk, and hopefully made and served by someone else!
