I love TLC. When I got pregnant and first had Will, I cancelled my extra cable to save money. Gone was my TLC and Discovery (I have a Deadliest Catch obsession). But I missed TLC the most...What Not To Wear; Say Yes To The Dress; The Baby Story...the couponing, the baking - all of it. After I lived with my sister for three months this spring...I knew what I had to do. I had to get my TLC back.
I bring you the Virgin Diaries. A reality show that follows two people who have chosen not to kiss or anything past that before their wedding. Look - the Duggars have 19 kids...why not just focus on their weddings - they do the same.
Try to erase that visual of these people kissing from your brain. It's hard. I think this is what my first kiss may have looked like at 15...(Gibby??). Look, it's one thing to not have sex before you get married...but to not make out with someone? Bad kisser = deal breaker. Sure they can practice - but oh the experience they're missing out on.
Now there are Sister Wives and Gypsy Weddings - loving. This morning, thanks to the brilliant Michael K over at Dlisted, I caught a glimpse of TLC's new show. I could turn a blind eye to the kiddy pageant show and pretend it didn't exist. But I think - just maybe - they may have crosssed the line - even for me - lover of all things trash.

I have friends that didn't do ANYTHING (including holding hands) before they got married. Whatever works for you, as far as I'm concerned. But a show about it...ick.
Before watching this clip I was skeptical that this couple hadn't kissed before their wedding day. Now I'm a believer. Wow, that was gross!

I cannot imagine that first kisses are every like this. I saw an episode of A Wedding Story many many years ago with a couple who did the same and while their first kiss was awkward (with everyone watching) it was NOT like that one in the clip.
OMG. I was watching Sister Wives with the girls when that preview came on the other day. We all looked at each other like, "wha....?" and I couldn't stop laughing. Even my eleven and eight year-old daughters know (or maybe just hope) that kissing isn't supposed to be like that! I couldn't help myself, I had to say, "girls, that's why you should kiss your husband BEFORE you get married."

That just makes me sad. I mean kissing, to me is pretty intimate but it is not sex. SO why not kiss before marriage? I mean that just makes no sense. Imagine being with a bad kisser for the rest of your life. I am not even really sure you can "teach" someone to kiss properly. I think it just comes from some experience.
