The "other" recently-married Royal couple - Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco - are celebrating their one-year anniversary this month. As part of the celebrations, they invited CBS This Morning for a chat in their castle. The result is one of the most awkward interviews I've seen in a long time. The two seem so uncomfortable - even while answering easy questions such as "What's it like to be married?"
Princess Charlene seems so lovely and a bit shy. She is clearly still trying to find her comfort level with being in the spotlight. But it's the awkwardness between the couple that makes for some cringe-worthy moments.
At one point, while Princess Charlene stumbles while responding to "What's it like to be a princess?" Prince Albert actually asks for a time-out. One question "What was it about her that drew you to Princess Charlene?" was deemed too personal by a palace rep.
Ummm...okay, isn't the point of that entire interview supposed to be personal?
Something about these two doesn't give an impression of a couple who's only been married for a year. But perhaps it's just me? Have a look at the video and see what you think:
This latest interview reminded me of their wedding day. Anyone else remember this? Princess Charlene may have been the saddest bride I've ever seen. Of course, it could have been that beautiful French song that brought on her tears. But it was his reaction to her reaction that got me.
I almost can't watch any of these two anymore because it's so sad. She looks like she is fighting back tears the whole time. I thought Diana looked miserable but that was nothing! I hope she gets pregnant and has a baby to focus on like Diana did because she is stuck in this hopeless sham.
The only thing that would save this PR fiasco is if they announce on Piers Morgan that they are expecting.
I noticed her nervously adjusting her shirt and thought perhaps she is expecting.
In any case, these two are the absolute most awkward couple. He seems to "tolerate" her, and she's seems to be looking for his approval.
She seemed like a totally different person with the athletes.
I agree with Sara - she's miserable to be stuck in that sham.
Yes, she's a sad Princess and Christine, you are right! He seems to tolerate her at best and she just keeps trying to please.
She needs to pull a "Katie Holmes" and get outta there!
