She has never sung it live, but today the rumour was confirmed - Adele will perform the Oscar-nominated "Skyfall" at the awards telecast on February 24th, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
This theme song from the latest James Bond film is a massive hit for Adele. She is fresh off her win for Best Song at the Golden Globes. This is the first Bond theme ever to debut in Billboard's top 10 chart and the first to be nominated for an Oscar since "For Your Eyes Only" in 1981. Previous Bond movies to have Oscar-nominated songs are 1977′s The Spy Who Loved Me and 1973′s Live and Let Die.
Adele didn't perform "Skyfall" at the Globes but that marked her first public appearance since giving birth to her son. The performance at the Oscars will be her first since she performed (and won big) at last year's Grammy Awards. It will be the first time she's ever performed this song anywhere. Super-exciting!
"It's an honor to be nominated and terrifyingly wonderful to be singing in front of people who have captured my imagination over and over again," Adele said after nominations were announced. "It's something I've never experienced and probably only ever will once!"
In other exciting news, this year's Oscars will also feature a tribute to the Bond film franchise, which celebrated its 50th anniversary this year. Let us all say a collective prayer that past Bonds will make an appearance and that they will be accompanied by the current Bond - Daniel Craig. Pleeeeease let it be so!! I am hopeful!!
Even though no Bond song has ever won, "Skyfall" is a favourite to win the Best Original Song Oscar. Adele co-wrote "Skyfall" with frequent collaborator producer Paul Epworth and they've had many hits together. What's also exciting about this category is that it likely means we'll see others perform their nominated songs too. And that doesn't always happen (no more Randy Newman....please!!!). Other nominees in the category include "Suddenly" from Les Miserables. It's sung by Hugh Jackman in the film so maybe we will see him perform it live as well. And we may see Norah Jones perform "Everybody Needs A Friend" from Ted.
So in case you've been living under a rock and haven't yet heard "Skyfall", have a listen below!
