... at the grocery store:

FRIENDLY ROBOTS COOK MY FOOD

Pressure_cooker

That's a pressure cooker. I was a bit nervous about using a pressure cooker for some reason, and I wasn't sure why I'd want one. Pressure what now? But a friend of my husband's was EXTREMELY excited when he found out that we had a new pressure cooker, telling us that it was his VERY favorite kitchen tool and like a reverse slow cooker. Slightly emboldened, I decided to make sausages and peppers - one of our favorite things - for supper on Saturday night. So I browned the peppers:

And I also browned the sausages, which I'm not going to post a picture of, since sausages look flaccid, pale and flabby in their uncooked state. Ick! Then we closed the lid and FOUR MINUTES LATER:

Ta da! It was REALLY fast - really, really - and not even a little bit intimidating. It's a great weeknight cooking tool, AND it's cute, a friendly round little robot:

Do you see the yellow pail behind it, holding all of my messy motley of kitchen things? That was my Grandma's candy pail, living on a low shelf in her pantry for my convience and full of caramels. I pass by it 500 times a day and each time feel the same little pang of loss and nostalgia, sweet on my tongue. And DO look out my kitchen window and note the lovely weather that greeted me this morning. It was SO very, very heartening that I went outside and made a little film for everyone of the LOVELY SPRING WEATHER that's lifting my heart today.

Bah! Also, my voice is funny sounding - nasal and weird. Double bah! And it's not the first of April, but I was confused by all of the snow or SOMETHING.

snow sucks. plain and simple.

and pressure cookers have always scared me, too, but now i'm interested in trying one.

Pressure cookers scare me too. Everyone here has them though. But not the electric kind. Here they all have Lagostini pressure cookers that go on your stove and they make delicious homemade broth and risotto and pasta sauce in no time at all, while I let all those things simmer and simmer and simmer. Because I am afraid.

Today is cold, gray and rainy, but at least it isn't snowing. We do have snow in the forecast, however. Bah!!!
I don't like my voice on tape either. I sound like a little mouse. I don't think anyone likes their voice when they hear it.

It's been cold and damp for three days now--the price we pay, I guess, for having daffodils and azaleas blooming...

I'm still scared of crock pots, so I'm not sure I'll try the pressure cooker anytime soon--but I'm so impressed! Some day, maybe...

I was going to say it was nice to put a voice to you, but if that's not the real sounding voice I'll just skip that. ;v) We woke to snow too.

Crockpots scare me too! But yours sure looks cute!

You're very brave. We have a stovetop pressure cooker (a wedding gift from my in-laws) and Scott is the only one who uses it. All that hissing steam is intimidating!

Four minutes?!! They really should rename the pressure cooker to something that sounds less stressful. Relaxo Cooker? Hypersonic-lickety-split Cooker? Just sayin'.

We have rain today, which is gloomy yet cheering because it's not snow. I like hearing that Beck voice, even if it isn't accurate. My voice makes me sound 12, which is handy when telemarketers call and ask to speak to my mom.

I think they should rename it the "Hey No Pressure, Man" Pressure Cooker. All your cool new gadgets rock! I challenge you to make a meal using ALL your Cuisinart Appliances!

I need to post a look out my back door. Perhaps I'll do that tomorrow. Then you can hear my wierd voice, which is wierder than your lovely accent I can tell Y'ALL!!!

And I love my pressure cooker. I have had it for about 25 years. It is a sit on the stove variety and it makes this lovely psssssssssssss sound for the minutes it is working. It makes roasts and stews to beat the band and I am told they are delicous although because of the bloody meat I cannot put it in my mouth ... you know?

That is my wierdness. Along with the voice.

It is snowing here too. Those lovely fluffy snow flakes that I would be so happy to see in December. This morning I felt like throwing myself off my back deck. UGH Enough already!

And I have never used a pressure cooker, intimidates me for sure.

My mom uses an old-school pressure cooker, and has for like EVER: it USED to be harvest gold, but now all the paint scraped off, so it's just a cheery aluminum death-trap / explosion hazard. But it is faasssst.

And the snow? Yeah. It's pouring rain here and cold and awful and the snowbanks even look depressed.

Everyone sounds more nasally on tape: the voice in your head has the great good luck to reach your ears through your skullbones, which adds a certain resonance I'm always awfully depressed to find that not one but me hears ...

I love that you said the wrong date... :)

WOW! That is one shiny pressure cooker .... we have this scary old one that whistles and steams and FREAKS ME OUT. So we only eat potatoes when hubby cooks ... like rarely. heheh robots! I so need a robot or two! I am also with ya on the NO MORE SNOW. I NEED spring. :)

No snow here, but I've had it with winter, too. My cherry tree is in full bloom, it was 74 out on Friday, but it got COLD again just in time for the weekend. And rainy.
But, no snow. So, there's that.

You know what else a pressure cooker is good for? Really quick, really good beefy vegetable soup, the kind with shreds of beef that melt in your mouth instead of big chunks that you are afraid to swallow. MMM... well, there's one good thing about winter. Beefy vegetable soup. :)

My mom loved her pressure cooker. I'd love to have your updated version!

Wish I could send you some of our sunny spring weather but then I'd have to include the wind and the pollen so maybe you don't want it. It is nice seeing the green grass beginning to emerge.

I love hearing your voice. It's just a lovely lovely friendly voice.

Ugh! Snow. We had silver dollar sized flakes this morning, tomorrow calls for weather in the 60's. Insanity.

4 minutes? I am impressed! I have a really old pressure cooker that I would never use (I should toss it!) because I am afraid it will explode in the kitchen. The last time I used it, it did a lot of shaking while it cooked. Scary!

Wow Rebecca! You've mastered the pressure cooker already! So far you've inspired me to buy Cuisinart's, oh, everything. Maybe I'll try this one next.

wow - I think I need myself a pressure cooker. AND, don't even get me GOING on snow. I am thankful for the rain last night and FOG all day today. A definite sign of spring. ABOUT FRICKING TIME!

I get it - it was an April Fool's joke a day early?! We have rain here which is rapidly melting all the snow and revealing a horrid mess of garbage underneath, it ALMOST makes me want the snow back to cover it all up.

Dinner in 4 minutes? There is such a robot? I want one!

Week night cooking, now you're speaking my language! I'm suddenly all a flutter, wanting to go buy one right this moment!

My MIL has mentioned her pressure cooker and how useful it was on week nights, she was a teacher also. Even more useful, I think, is that she gave up cooking all together one night about 20 years ago and hasn't lifted a finger since. Although, I love cooking far too much to really give it up.

Snow. That sucks.
Here's hoping for a nice rain to clean it all away. How long would it have to rain there, to clean it all away???

My husband played a nasty trick on his mom when he was a rotten teenager that involved a pressure cooker and some green beans. I can understand your fear. But I think they (pressure cookers) have come a long way since then. Rotten teenagers? Are still the same if you ask me.

OH MY WORD. I haven't seen a pressure cooker in YEARS. My grandmother used to cook with one. It was not nearly as cool as yours and it used to make an awful racket.

Believe it or not, our pressure cooker is so old it has to go on the hob! But it works, and I often use it for dried beans and garbanzos I've forgotten to soak overnight and need that day. (I like the idea of the sausages, though.) It hisses and squeals and steams at me, but I find that kinda exciting. Danger in the kitchen!

Those sausage and peppers look so yummy! And I thought your voice sounded lovely. (But I do HATE the sound of my recorded voice and always fruitlessly try to get someone to tell me I don't sound like that in real life. They always just stare at me and say, "That is EXACTLY what you sound like." Arrgh!)

They make electric pressure cookers??? What WILL they think of next! The only person I ever saw use a pressure cooker was Grandma Bob, and I am still in awe of you people who use them. One day, I may overcome my fear - or at least have one at my disposal to try!

We had rain all day, which somehow doesn't seem any better than the snow. However, the piles of snow are happily a little shorter! Nice to hear your voice!

Maybe not the point of your post, but my stomach did a lurch when I saw the pail of Lowney's hard candy in the background. That brings back memories of my youth.

I've never used a pressure cooker before, never really understood what they did exactly to be honest! but wow, if they can make dinner in 4 min, I might have to look into one of those!

you sound exactly like i thought you would sound!

pressure cookers are huge with traditional indian cooks - lentils, beans and red meat can be cooked quickly with them and almost every house has one. I, however, heard one story about one exploding and have had a fear of them ever since! But, the cuisinart one looks very safe and sophisticated - i think i'm going to check it out!

That surely is a beauty of a pressure cooker Becky! Your sausage and peppers looks delicious and you have a lovely voice.
I had a pressure cooker many years ago and just the other day was thinking of buying a new one, I went to Canadian Tire and they only had the stove-top kind. I will check around to see if I can find one.

Wishing you a splendid day! keep up the good work.

Wow that's some robot! Today is the real April 1st and it is already 12C here and supposed to go up to 14. Of course it is still raining and we still have snow banks out there - but they are shrinking. Maybe Cuisinart could come up with a snow eating robot?

If I was a pilot, I would fly my plane (that I don't have because I'm not a pilot,) I would pick you up, and bring you here to Florida to thaw out for awhile.

I don't have enough counter space for another appliance- although I AM intrigued by it!

Yeah. Your voice it totally weird. (not.)

I cannot tell you what BubTar spent the weekend doing. It would be too cruel to your poor, snow covered soul.

It sounds like even I could handle cooking with a pressure cooker. Tempting.

Your robot pressure cooker looks much safer than my mom's with her shaker thingie wobbling on the top and having to run cold water over it at EXACTLY the right moment. I grew up on pressure cooked potatoes every single night.

Your video is fabulous! And I love your voice. And I'm sorry that it is still snowing there. Bleh.

Four minutes! and it is cute.
