So, yesterday I got the message slammed home to me as only the brutal honesty of a large group of young children could manage! I've been sailing along for the last few weeks, not gaining weight, but not losing it either. It's called a plateau, ya know? Well, I didn't give it a whole lot of worry - I guess after 19 (almost) weeks I've gotten a bit complacent. Not so my nearly 6-year old daughter! Yesterday she taught me two incredible lessons. How? By doing the Terry Fox Run with her school. BTW, she's the one in the... More »
Losing It!
Week: 18 Pounds Lost: 34 Okay, it's probably not what you think, but since this is a chronicle of my weight-loss journey, I thought I'd include this little tidbit that I've been chewing on for the past few days. Okay, bad food-related puns aside, you probably haven't heard of the 100 mile diet. No, it's not a way to lose weight by walking/running a hundred miles - in fact, it's really got nothing to do with losing weight. No, this little number's only interested in the minor goal of saving the planet. Okay, I know what you're thinking...how can... More »
Wow. I went shopping yesterday (totally, desperately needed to get new pants) and had an epiphany. There is a club of attractive, appropriately-sized people out there, and I've just been admitted into its ranks. You know, I used to hear a lot about "fat discrimination", and I was sure it existed, but I never thought it applied to me. And no, maybe I was never turned down for a job or told "we don't carry your size", but I now know that I have been excluded. So there I was, at the GAP. I've shopped there before, with no... More »
Week: 17Pounds Lost: 34 So I have a little secret for you - I love scrapbooking (or crapbooking as the hubster calls it). For some years I refused to even consider the hobby. I saw it as something that bored, over-privileged suburban "housewives" did with all the extra money their husbands made that they didn't spend on SUVs, tumbled marble kitchen tiles, designer children's clothes or plastic surgery. My best friend tried to convince me it was fun and creative - I refused to even go to her "scrapbooking party". Then, somehow, I got bitten, and now I'm hooked. The... More »
Week: 16 Pounds Lost: 34 My Week SUNDAY: Vow to eat well all week (oh, so many fruits & vegetables shall grace my plate) to compensate for one pound gain last week. MONDAY: Get stressed out over work, kids, the fact that my body requires sleep despite the fact that I need all 24 hours just to get everything that needs to be done, done. TUESDAY: Eat 1/2 bag of Lay's Salt & Vinegar chips while working late in front of the computer. WEDNESDAY: Wake up at 6:00 a.m. and work out twice as long as usual to ease... More »
Week:15 Pounds Lost: 29 Okay, I'm going to be totally upfront with everyone - YES, I gained a pound this week. YES, I deserved to gain a pound this week! There, that feels a lot better! It's kind of like getting a weight of my back...yeah, that's it...a one-pound weight! Oh no, actually, that would be LOSING a pound, not gaining one. Yes, I'm bitter about it and it shows! Why, you ask? Shouldn't I be just ecstatic at my 29 pound weight loss? After all, I look so damn good right now that most of the moms in... More »
