Ten Years Younger
Wow. What a roller-coaster my life has been lately. And today might possibly have been one of the worst days I've had the misfortune to experience in my entire life (not directly related to my mother's cancer), yet it was lifted by the kind words of a complete stranger.
But let me take you back.
For a lot of reasons, today was a shitty, shitty day. I was tossed and turned and thrown in the emotional wringer. And then I went to the liquor store (not a cause-and-effect relationship, in case you were wondering.)
And I got asked for ID.
Allow me to take a moment, now, to point out that I am thirty-nine years old. And I got asked for ID. That alone is surprising, but it was the reaction of the clerk at the liquor store that really took me aback. And made me feel great.
Looking at my driver's licence she said, "Wow, I never would have guessed that."
"What did you think?" I asked. "Just out of curiosity, I mean."
"At the most...twenty-nine," she replied.
Twenty-nine. Twenty-FREAKIN'-nine, people!
Today, of all days, I looked ten years younger than I actually am. And from where I'm sitting on the timeline of my life, ten years younger is a good thing. A very good thing.
A very good thing that I really, really needed: today of all days.
Thank goodness for the kindness of complete strangers!
It's wonderful to have all your hard work pay off for little moments like that! Go 29!

And you didn't even have to stand in the glass box for the 100 guesses!

Lucky! You have always looked young, though. Doesn't surprise me. Glad it lifted your spirits!
