Cancer Treatment - Week 2

| 5 Comments | No TrackBacks
First of all, I just want to thank those of you who have sent well wishes for me and my family. I really, really appreciate it. I don't have a lot of news. Things are going well, I guess. As well as something that makes you feel continuously yucky and flu like and tired can go. The good news is my mom's body is responding. The Interferon is having an effect and stimulating her immune system to fight those nasty cells. This means that she was taken off the treatment for two days (no, it didn't really help with the... Five Irrelevant (but interesting) Things I learned at McDonald's International Media Days
I am currently overwhelmed by information. The last few days were spent listening to leaders from McDonald's and learning about all of the cool things happening around the world. We visited the Innovation Centre, were lucky enough to sample some of the unique menu items developed for different local markets, visited McDonald's first "Green Restaurant" and spent time with Chef Dan in the test kichen. More to come on some of this after I get a chance to sift through everything. In the meantime I thought I would post on some of the interesting and odd things I have learned... More »

Girls Weekend in Chicago!

Girls Weekend in Chicago!
I am in Chicago to get the inside scoop on what McDonald's is up to (more on that over the next few days) but because I have never been here I decided to ask a pal to come a few days early with me for a Girls Weekend. What a blast! Chicago is a great city. Navy Pier, the river, Magnificent Mile. We have had a blast wandering around, sleeping in, and going to movies. We also went to see Jersey Boys which was a ton of fun. I am a huge musical lover and this one had more music... More »
I have loved having my sister here for the last week but to be honest everything is overwhelmed by my mom's cancer and the treatment. I feel bad for my sister. Her life is in such a wonderful place! A baby on the way. A wedding to plan. In her mid-30's I'm sure she sometimes thought this might never happen. And now that it has she can't joyfully plan everything all carefree. She has to worry about cancer. Today my mom went for her treatment again. She is feeling better thanks to some pre-meds which means the side effects are... More »

F*#@ing Cancer Treatment Day 2

| 2 Comments | No TrackBacks
Yesterday was rough. Really, really rough. I think we were fooling ourselves a bit to think that my mom might escape any real side effects. Although I do believe that a positive attitude helps, it can not fend off the full-on body aches, shivers and fever brought on by the Interferon. Even worse than all of that was the severe chest pain that forced my sister to rush my mom to the emergency room to get checked out. After a day of treatment the last thing my mom needed - not to mention my preggo sister - is to sit... More »

Cancer Treatment Day 1

The past few days have been crazy busy. My "little" sister is here from the UK (yes, I know the woman is well into her 30's but she will always be "little" to me) and we had a big party for her and her growing belly on Saturday. There was tons of food and tons of fun but I have decided that I much prefer to attend parties than host them. I barely got a chance to have a full conversation with anyone. Then, on Sunday, my mom arrived to settle in at our house for her month of treatment... More »

Introducing the McDonald's Moms!
As I have mentioned before, urbanmoms.ca is the Official Mom Media for the exciting Moms Quality Correspondents program from McDonald's. Tonight I will be going to meet all of the moms before their first field trip to McDonald's Corporate Head Office in Chicago. I'll post about those two events later but, for now, I wanted to introduce you to the women from across Canada who will be representing all of us moms. They'll be posing the tough questions and getting to the bottom of what things are like behind the scenes at this global giant. Oh, so send me your... More »
Spreading the Cyber Love to My Kids
I am a freak for technology. I am seriously in love with my Blackberry. So when Best Buy got in touch and asked me about my kids and the internet I was happy to oblige. I have a home-based office. I am at my computer a whole lot. My philosophy is, technology is awesome but only if you know how to use it. And who better to teach my kids about the internet than me. I hear so many of my friends talking about how their kids want an email address or want to instant message or get on Facebook... More »

New Jeans or New Bod?

New Jeans or New Bod?
I spent the day yesterday pulling out all of our summer clothes and replacing them with winter gear. I washed all of the mittens, hats, and scarves. I had my kids try things on to see what needs to be purchased (surprisingly little despite huge growth spurts...their clothes must have been ridiculously long last year). And then I moved to my own drawers. I pulled out all of the summer clothes and decided to only store what I would actually wear next year. I have a bunch of stuff I keep year after year but never put on. So,... More »

Wow. This was sent to me yesterday by some folks at Pfizer. They wanted my opinion. Well, my hysterical tears and warm and fuzzy feeling was difficult to describe to them but, in simple terms, it really touched me. I mentioned to you earlier this week that my mom was diagnosed with Melanoma and I have been reading a lot about how outlook and attitude play a huge role in treatment and recovery so this fit right in. It is part of Pfizer's www.morethanmedication.ca message. Grab your hanky and check it out:... More »
