Mom's The Word

The Era of A Zillion Digital Photos & Your Last Chance to Win!

When we took on the task of talking managing digital photos at our recent Microsoft Windows 7 event I admit I was intimidated and a little embarrassed. I have thousands of digital photos on my computer and, although they are filed by date, they are not organized and I rarely do anything with them beyond posting them on my blog. However, what I realized pretty quickly was that this was a problem of mass proportions. Every mom there had files and files of photos on her computer and were either overwhelmed by the quantity or frustrated by how difficult it was to organize them.

So, Ruth from Microsoft took us through the new Windows 7 photo management options and you could hear a collective sigh of relief! Especially when it came to the touchscreen functionality. How intuitive is that? Check it out:

Don't worry! The Microsoft Windows 7 Contest to win a Sony VAIO touchscreen PC is still going on. Comment below about your photo challenges or tips to earn one final entry! OMG, I have so many photos and over half of them I cannot remember when I took them. Its crazy unorganized and I am a Librarian, I should know better

I need my daughter to help me all the time..sad, but true. I can never find pictures when I want, have to spend far too much time looking through different files and folder.s This would be fantastic!

Okay, so it's been 4 years since I took the time to organize my photos beyond the occasional folder on the computer. It's so bad that I just had to buy a new memeory stick because I haven't even downloaded them onto the computer! The problem - time of course! Relying on Vista to get you through your projects is enough deterrant not to do them at all.. this new Windows 7 sounds great!

I have so many files of pictures on my computer that I can't even find them all. A little organizing would be wonderful.

Forget the fact that I used to teach scrapbooking, my pictures are so disorganized at the moment and they have been for the past few years. Can't figure out how to get them from my phone to my computer. Filing on my computer helps (from my camera) but I do miss the days when we just used rolls of film vs. digital bc at least they all got printed and if they weren't put into albums right away, I could label the envelope that they came in. My real problem is that I don't have much extra time on my hands to do what I call 'extras' as a working single mommy. Not very computer savvy either! HELP!!!!

We take pictures like there's no tomorrow. Always trying to get that perfect picture. So our computer is loaded with pictures. It becomes cumbersome when trying to find a specific photo. Organization would be a big plus.

I find I get red eye all the time when taking digital pictures. Luckily the software not only organizes, but also removes issues like this. Nothing like printing a family photo and seeing red eye.

Organization is what I strive for but struggle with. This would be a big help.

Photo lack of organization and lack of sleep are two conversations mothers can always have as we can all relate. It is endlessly on my to-do list. I am working at it slowly but it is a tough task and although I have four kids, it was only in the last few months that my youngest child at age THREE, thank you very much, finally appeared on some wall pics and in frames in my house...

I love how easy it looks to work with the touch screen with the photos! So cool! The tags are a fantastic way to keep things organized.

I tend to have very little organization with the pictures on my laptop. This sounds very appealing & user friendly!

I am extremely bad with getting all my photo organised.

Its been piling and piling on my computer.
Its actually a headache for me to go into the files to find a pic.

If this program can do the job for me-without the headaches of time and effort-then I am IN.!!

My biggest challenge is knowing how to organize my photos and then what to do with them. I have so many saved on my computer but it's so hard to do anything with them. I definitely need some help in this area.

I find I have the same problem with photos on my computer and have even lost quite a few pictures this year when my computer crashed many were lost that I had saved on it. My advice is to by an external harddrive and back up all your precious memories so they will not be lost as in my case!

We have a lot of pictures that I seem to have no time to sort them. My husband recieved all his parents photos that he does not know alot about the photos.

Most of our photos aren't even digital! Daughter got our first digital camera last year. I feel like a dinosaur. Have been trying to scan the best photos but it is time consuming so do it in small batches when remember.

We have 2 Laptops and 1 PC and have baby pictures on all of them... Who would have thought that taking pictures of your first child would take up most of you time?! :)

It seems that ever since digital cameras became the norm we are all overloaded with tons and tons of digital pictures. Most of the time I don't even print the pictures, just store them on my laptop and post them online for friends and family to view. I am into scrapbooking so I try to print the pictures of major events and milestones and add them to my daughter's scrapbook. Although my pictures are organized by date (no brainer -- when you upload to your PC it automatically does this for you!) they should be organized a little better. I have duplicate files in some case and am in need of a major cleanup of files!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i take a lot of photos, love to be able to save them in a way that will make them easy to find and share with my family!!

I hear all the posters loud and clear.....organization is the biggest issue, I never seem to have the time to sit for hours and do this mundane task.

This looks so easy and fun to use.

When naming pictures, especially those with a lot of people in them, it is helpful to include the first name of everyone in the picture. That way, you can easily search for pictures you've taken of a particular person. For example, if you take a picture with your friends Erica, Steve, Kevin, and Liz, you could name the picture "Erica Steve Kevin Liz." Then, if you search for any of their names, you will find the picture.

Help with photo organization? Wahou, for sure that would be welcome to help us sort thousands of pictures, between family pictures and trips, they are all over the place right now!

I put all my photos on my computer in alphabetical order. Like for instance, if I am looking for a person's picture, they are all next to each other if there are more than one picture of that person.

Digital photos have changed the way we live. The fact that we can instantly transmit what we're seeing is incredible. Can't wait to see what the future holds!

I have to learn to have better photography skills from my best friend who took a photography course recently!

I'm not a professional photographer but I love being behind a camera... I feel like I want to capture every moment in my kids lives so that they have something to look back on when they are older. I'm all about creating memories and as a result, have thousands of photos.

I do my best to save the pictures in folders by name so that I know what they are when I go back to them - but with a busy household its always really hard to find the time to organize, sort through and edit photos. I love the new features the Sony VAIO has to offer - looks like it would help save time and sanity while sorting through pictures among other tasks.

It's exciting to see the new things available with Windows 7, like the ability to use a touch screen instead of a mouse and to share photos and videos throughout your house.

A fabulous prize for anyone!

Sara

I have always found organizing pictures to be so time consuming thus I never get around to doing it. This system looks like a huge step forward.

good morning. my daughter who is a camera addict decided to go through all the photo albums and scan certain pics to computer that she liked, like her brothers when they were little, or herself when she was a baby and then she sent them to their facebook accounts and now they are visible for all to see and comment...great idea and then now I am going to download them to a disc because of the space they take up on the computer. thanku barbara from Cambridge, Ontario

Wow, I can't believe how many other moms are in the same boat as me! I thought I was such a 'bad mom' cause I was so disorganized with the photos (4 kids worth!). This would definitely make life easier for any of us - good luck to all!

Help with photo organization? Wahou, for sure that would be welcome to help us sort thousands of pictures, between family pictures and trips, they are all over the place right now!

Just like everyone, I could use this - I have way too many photos for my little computer to handle! LOL

Help with photo organization? Whoo, for sure that would be welcome to help us sort thousands of pictures, between family pictures and trips, they are all over the place right now!

looks like a couple cool programs. I'm going to check out the first free one for sure!

Most of my photos are pretty well organized, but easier access is definitely needed! Thanks for the post :D

Id love to have my photos organized.even scrapbooked online.I was a big fan of the photalbums and still am,but I love having all my pictures online .I can lookback and enjoy anytime and its so easy to share with family and friends

I have so many pictures on my computer! I have tried to go through them more than once, to get them somewhat organized, but it seems too daunting a task after about an hour. Which leaves me with some of the older ones in nice groups, but any recent (2 yrs) just all in one area.

The photo editing and sorting features of Windows 7 are certainly exciting and I look forward to being able to tag and edit my digital pictures using its great features. It would certainly motivate me to better organize my digital picture collection.

I literally have thousands of photos all over my computer. I never know where they download too and have a terrible time trying to find them.

I have been waiting for something like this for the longest time! I have tons and tons of photos of the kids, family, friends, pets, etc. I love the touch screen too, anything that can make organizing pics quicker and easier is a bonus!

I would love to have this just like everyone would, my computer is dying its so old and I need to put my pics somewhere help............

The numerous hodge-podge of photos stored on my computer is difficult to retrieve at this time. The Sony VAIO touchscreen PC would be the ultimate tool to help clean up this mess. The touchscreen is very tactile, and would be easier to use than the typical PC.

I have the same problem with digital photos as I did with prints, I haven't learned to edit or organize them. My digital photos are stored by date and that can be time-consuming if I can't remember when the photo was taken. I will check out the program mentioned in the video, it appears to be very user-friendly.

Wow! This is truly an awesome program! My computer is a disorganized mess of the last few years of digital photography and the visual stories of my family and children's lives. Needless to say, this program would do me wonders! I may even be able to tell this story through my photo's in some order if I had this Windows 7. I can't help but think back to the day when digital didn't exist! Wow! Look at what technology has come too! It's quite amazing!

For me, it really is all about the organization. I have files full of photos, but I really haven't organized them. In the beginning I would put them under a specific year, but I don't even do that anymore. Something to help me keep track of all the wonderful photos would be great.

I'm glad to see it's not just me. Looks like we could all use some help on this one. H-E-L-P !!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU

I bought an external hard drive thinking I would use it for safe storage of the thousands of pictures I have on my computer. I started out pretty good good sorting them by year, event or subjects. I didn't get very far into it and stopped. At this point I still have pictures all over my computer as hubby & I don't seem to store them in the same area

I'm really excited about the new abilities of Windows 7. It should make sharing photos and video between the different computers in our house a lot easier and hopefully make storing my huge collection of photes much easier.

What a wonderful prize you are offering, I would love to win this

Kim

I find with a new baby, the amount of photos I take has grown tremendously. I have thousands of photos on my computer, all in one big file. This Sony VAIO touchscreen PC looks amazing and would be a great help.

LOVE URBAN MOM,S AND THE CONTESTS

Hopefully Windows 7 won't have as many bugs in it as Vista did. Vista crashed my computer and I lost many photos which I hadn't saved to CD.

So many photos, so little time. Everytime I sit down to organize my photos I get frustrated because the task is so overwhelming and I don't know where to start. I almost lost all my photos when my compter crashed a few years ago. I just got an external hard drive but it's just another area to store thousands of unorganized photos.

What a great way to organise pictures, I have 2 computers full of pictures, this would be so helpful

I have a digital photo challenge! Our house was broken into a couple of months ago and everything of value was stolen!!! All my jewellery (even my grandma's pearls), the Wii and Wii Fit Board and all the games & accessories, my digital camera, my GPS, my DSI XL, my Lap Top, and the list goes on!

My challenge? Well....no digital camera, no laptop.............gone are all my pics that were in the camera (yet to be downloaded), and gone are all my pics that were saved in the laptop. Hence my challenge. :)

I would love to have files of photos to be concerned with; however, I have to now concentrate on recovering some items. First the camera.....then the need to organize all the future pics!

Your prize is absolutely amazing.

Good luck to all.

love urban moms and the contests

My relic of a PC is bogged down with years of pics. My hubby is always giving me a hard time about it. But I literally don't even know where to start.
This would be amazing to win!

WOW....being a proud grandma with a sweet little grandaughter i have tons of pictures....this looks like such an quick and easy way to organize and enjoy the pictures all over again!!

wow!!! our computer is full of pictures! as well, we have dvd's burned with copies of the pictures. good luck trying to find which picture you're looking for though!

I hate organizing photos on the computer - it's very frustrating. I would love for a program and just collect all the .jpg files and sort them automatically by date and then put them in folders accordingly ... that way all the photos will at least be organized by date and then all I would have to do is rename the folder for that date to be a little bit more memorable.

I love to take pictures, I love myphotos, it is just too bad that I do not organize them well enough to be able to enjoy seeing them without spending a long time searching and trying to remember which date I took them. Thanks

My challenge has been to get all my pictures on my computer and sort them into folders. I have all my pictures mixed up and need some organization!

Over the years, I, like most people with a digital camera, have accummulated a lot of pictures. And I have been storing them in my hard drive (which I know is bad..), but I like having the photos available for easy access instead of going through an external device like a back up hard drive, a DVD or a CD. I wish there was a better way to keep my photos organized and readily available. I hate to think that my photos would be gone if my computer ever gave in.

I'm the next best thing to a Luddite when it comes to anything computer-related.Something that would easily organize my photos would ease the stress factor considerably!

Interesting program... But, when you edit does it edit the original, thus overwrite? Or does it maintain an 'original' copy?

With iPhoto on the MAC, you can organize your photos virtually automatically by person, event or build a separate album. Editing an image does not alter the original image. There are easy ways to share these images: upload to web site, Facebook, email. Are these also available in Windows 7?

I recently received a Mac, but haven't imported all of my photos prior to 2009. Digital photography is a passion for me, as such I have tens of thousands of photos prior to 2009 and may not want to import them all into my Mac. If Windows 7 can address the above concerns, I may not need to import from my external hard drives.

Since my daughter was born, April 2009, I have 7000 photos of her alone! ...never miss a moment.

I love taking photos, I just have a hard time keeping them organized. Most of them are still in the package that I had them developed in. This touch would make my life so much easier.

I have had the experience of very valuable pictures being lost on the computer. Before I could back them up onto my flash drive, my hard drive crashed and I lost everything, like my son's graduation from highschool to my daughters from university. As well vacation pics with us :-(. Since it has been repaired it just is not the same and my new pics are so disorganized it is unbelievable. I could definitely use help in this department.

Oh to be organized. Is it just a dream? Or could it become a reality?

I have a few thousand photos stored in my old, cranky computer. I don't even know how to email them! I rarely print them out, and can't seem to find time to organize and make photo books. I mourn the days of film when you had to get it developed in order to see the picutures. I need help! A fun, easy, and fast way to deal with all these digital photos would be fantastic!

I have all my pictures backed up on an external hard drive but now the problem comes with the disorganization. When moving pictures into different folders..I experienced getting copies in the folders as well as copies of copies. It has taken me days and days to weed out some of them. It seem that if I highlight more than 4 at a time...it makes them copy themselves. I have no idea how to stop this from happening. I just find that it has become very tedious. So now I have 8 years of photos to go thru!

Oh to have a Sony VAIO touchscreen PC......it would organize and simply my life!

I have so many unorganized photo files on my computer. It would be nice finally have it under control.

Thsi is so great! I use a digital scrapbook system but this would work so well with it thank you.

I always download my pictures from my camera as soon as I get back to my computer ... too many friends have had cameras stolen or go for a swim. You don't want to lose those spontaneous memories!

I need a system to manage my photos. Winning this prize would be great!

I have so many photos on my computer and like you I have them organized by date I really should organize them by subject, but it's a daunting task! I don't know what I do but sometimes if I try to move some they copy themselves and I have more chaos to deal with. I am a disorganized mess and sure could use this!

I was like everyone else. Go to the same place and take a ton of pics of the same stuff. Always stressing to get the best ones and no one wanted to see them anyway. Last trip I left the camera at home. No stress and the pics are stillframes in my mind for ever.

I take more pictures with a digital camera than my old film camera. Now, I can never find enough time to sort through and delete the pictures that are duplicates or are bad let alone organize them in a way that I can find a picture when the kids ask for a specific picture

My biggest challenges are culling the photos I no longer need (like when we sold our highchair on line two years ago!) and putting themm all on one place. I have some in the My Picutres folder, some in the sofrware that came with my camera, it's a real hodge podge. Most are labeled with the date, but I think I'm the only one who remembers the occasion.

What a great prize. My photos are not very organized and I can never find the photo I want.

This is a big problem of all of us in these "digital" days. We have fantastic photos but thery are all on our computers ...somewhere in the great photo file abyss! This is a fantastic product that would help me and my family stay connected and organized. Right now I am trying to keep a photo legacy diary if you will of our lives so that my kids can have something that tells them where they are from. My Grandma passed away of brain cancer last year - and through this experience, I realized that once they are gone, so are all the stories, the pictures and all the family history. It is so important to keep this information for our children and furture generations to come. I have one set of Grandparents left - I don't want to loose our family history and all the lovely stories and pictures with it. I would love to be able to keep our family going through pictures. Thank you very for the opportunity!

Like all working moms I do not have the time to do everything I would like, especially those larger projects like sorting through many pictures and any tool to help make this easier and less time consuming would be greatly appreciated.

In an age of digital everything, it's tough to keep track of everything. I try to stay on top of it all by uploading my photos into a separate drive, organized by year. From there the folders get named something descriptive like "Matt's Birthday at the Circus". We make it a family affair to go through the photos, and select the ones that are "picture perfect" - everything else gets deleted right away. There's no point in keeping lots of blurred photos or imperfect shots, because chances are the only ones that you will probably look at are the ones that you liked enough to feature! Windows 7 does seems to be very effective with organizing and I especially love the touch screen aspect. It will definitely be a time-saver for legions of moms :)

I have tried everything to organize my photo's, event went so far as to buy a software for it, and they are all still sitting in folders and the folder system doesn't make any sense anymore. This window's 7 sounds great! I've got thousands of photo's of my now 2 year old and really could use this great computer.

Thank goodness I have a 16 year old son to do this stuff for me! Taking pictures with a digital camera is very weird for me and I never know what I am doing so I say "Trent! Help me please." He puts the pictures on the computer for me and I yet to sit down with him to organize and date our digital pictures that we have been taking for several years. I miss my film camera!

I have hundreds upon hundreds of photos on my computer, I had to put an extra hard drive in just to keep them. Now that's full and I am at a loss, organization is not one of my strong suits, this sounds perfect for me!!!

Where do I start trying to explain my bogged down computer? I have already saved oodles of pictures to an external hard drive, disks and online, and yet I've brought my laptop to the wonderful techies so many times who tell me that my computer keeps crashing because I have too many pictures! Save me!! Help me!

I have hundreds upon hundreds of photos on my computer, I had to put an extra hard drive in just to keep them. Now that's full and I am at a loss, organization is not one of my strong suits, this sounds perfect for me!!!

I agree with everyone here! I, too, have hundreds of photos that are completely unorganized. I'm overwhelmed with the task to putting them into some recognizable order. It sounds like Windows 7 could help with that task and I'm totally up for that!

Well.. I start by dumping them all from my camera into a "sort" folder and then move them to various files folders (Christmas, Halloween, my family, his family, pets, etc..and by year) depending on what the picture are of... but I still have more than I should...I don't delete enough....UGH!!

Not only do I need to organize my photos, but the photos and videos that my 12 year old girl and 14 year old boy take. My Picture directory is crazy! I can never find a certain picture I am looking for! I really need help to organize everything. I also need more space on my computer to hold all these pictures. I do have a backup of my photos on CDs, but they are a mess too!

I love to take pictures of my children. I have so many pictures. I love to make greeting cards and calendars for the special grandma and grandpas out there. Touch screens with the new windows 7 would be a great edition to my household. All my children take pictures for family members and for their own viewing. This is an amazing prize!!

My biggest photo challenge is getting them off my camera disk drive. I tend to forget to transfre them until I've filled my card and I know that isn't a safe way to store your pictures at all!

Angela >

3 kids. 3000 photos. every one is cuter than the next, how could i ever delete any? the funny thing is, i take all the photos so i'm not in any. sigh! i guess it will make for an easy transition if i'm ever replaced by a new yummy mummy (okay, not so funny).

I'm Audrey. Mother of 3 and Windows 7 was NOT my idea ... but i think it might solve some of my problems!

I have thousands of photos on my computer, the trick is to label stuff, each time you download from the camera give the photos a uniques name and date them....I also keep a written log so I can quick reference if I need to.

I have our travel pictures and then there is our family photos plus my son sends his photos and my daughter sends picutres of my granddaughter and they are all on my computer . It would be so nice to have these organized.

I have sooo many pictures of my family and half I cannot find on my PC.Organization is the key and that would be help so much:)

I use my camera daily, I carry it with me, I use photos in card making, scrapbooking, and as gifts (framed up) and the computer has made my life so much easier, remember the days of negatives?
* note to moms, with your kids artwork , take it outside and photograph it and you will have their work FOREVER... the art project dry up, fade and we just cant store all of the 18 x 15 pages they bring home. I have made a photo book of just ART

I love taking pics, but I'm terrible at organizing them! I have years worth of pics that need organizing! I NEED THIS!! I would love to be able to enjoy my pics again :)

I really use my camera a lot we live in a wooded area and deer and other animals are always coming and going so I take pictures of them and than there's the dog in her cuteness Im always taking pictures of her so I have a bunch of photos and they are all really unorganized . I also worry about having so may photos on my computer because its really not the best and already have use up a lot of computer space . I keep a blog and have my pictures stored there but having pictures on line only worries me because once I had all my photos lost due to a photo storing place shutting down so now I make sure I have copied both on my hard drive and online

I am always more worried about my computer crashing,,wish there was a faster easier way to save my photos on cds..gosh sometimes it take me forever to transfer them all. Although I also save online in different online photo saving/sharing sites, I still worry.

I have 3 kids so I take literally thousands of pictures a year! Trying to keep them all organized and remember when and where they were taken gets very overwhelming! I would love a way to keep all the pictures together, organized, easy to find and sorted!!! My pictures are precious to me!

I have so many pictures, it is crazy! My son just turned one and I already have over 1000 pictures of just him!!!

I love the ease of digital cameras- you can delete & try again if you get an image you don't like, but what to do with them after??? We have upwards of 15 CD's full of random pictures with no recognizable organization to them at all!!! At least I got them off the camera & computer!! Another thing- when trying to get rid of red-eye...how is that supposed to work? The last time I tried I ended up with black spots under the eyes of my Grandfather holding my one week old son- and apparently saved it that way, now I have this strange looking picture! Argh!
I don't want to loose any of them, but it is torture right now to try and find anything- one of these days I will actually print them and add them to the scrapbooks I started 3 years ago!!

I am so bad about my photos that only my children can help me figure things out!

With innovations such as Photo Albums on Facebook and email photo attachments, I rarely print photos anymore!

I had a bad habit of taking pictures, developing them and putting them in a drawer. I recently tried to organize all these pictures, some not dated, and trying to figure out what year they were taken in. Now, I have learned DATE THEM. Write down the date on the envelope. It will save hours and hours of work!

I have been struggling to get my photos in order for years... started out with not being able to get the 35mm's in order when my son was younger now it's not getting them organized on the computer! Would be nice to just touch the screen and move them into the correct file... maybe then I would finally be organized... well the pictures part of my life at least!!

I too have thousands of photos in hundreds of files on my computer. Would love a way to get them organized!!

It sounds like it is a fantastic fast editing and organizing photo program, easy to use for everyone.

I would love it, since I am a mom I become addicted to make photo's of my girls, I probably have close to 10.000 photos or even more already on my computer (external HD).

So yes, I definatly could use a program like this.

I have troubles sorting all my photos, deciding which ones get printed and which ones dont, and then remembering which ones I want to print when i take my disk to the photo lab!! I have far to many photos, not that i'd trade a one of them!!

Don't you just love digital photo's. My favorite thing is getting to see the results right away and having the option to discard bad photo's and retake if needed. Before digital I had taken countless pictures on film and do you know I still have about 50 undeveloped rolls from when my kids were little. They are now teenagers and the film is useless.

My photo's are disorganized, saved in a file with no rhyme or reason and I have to look through them all before I find the one or one's I need. Until now I thought hey it's better to have the pictures saved on my computer than having an old roll aging in a decorative bowl on a shelf in my living room. Am I wrong? is storing digital copies really better? Do I or we have the time that is needed to organize? Am I creative enough to think of ways to group photo's of my kids and family? Should it be by event or date? I don't know! so I just continue to dump my photo's from my portable media devises and store it all under my picture's folder on my computer. Maybe when I retire I will find the time and energy to sort through the years and endless images.

This systems looks very interesting from the organizing point of you. I would love to try it.

I don't want my kids to grow up to be JPEG babies, so...every month I make a conscious effort to transfer my photos from my camera to my computer and download them to a website for photo printing. Even if I am behind on my scrapbooking of my kids photos, at least I have them printed and in chronological order. The memories will not be forgotten on my computer!

T be able to organize my photos would be a dream! Maybe it would help if I renamed them instead of leaving them at HPIM0519 which makes no sense to me at all. Nice to be able to find a photo when it's needed.

Like many of you...I too had the problem of taking tons of pictures and not doing anything with them....then *poof* years have gone by and I cant remember where these photos were taken. Until I attended a scrapbook workshop and ultimately became an independant consultant myself for this company (on top of my full time job).Scrapbooking has changed from many years ago. This company still offers traditional scrapbook, but also offers digital books (no need to print photos - just click, drag and drop and order) and also quick kits (books already created and pages designed - you just add your printed photo and memories captured to the book and voila ,your album is done). So here I am, a consultant and still struggled with WHAT THE HECK DO I DO WITH ALL THESE PHOTOS! The best TIP i can offer now that I am over my struggles of storing photos online was to start one digital photo project - with the most recent set of pictures I took. At least I can still remember the event :) I created a digital storybook and got it printed. When I received my book in the mail. I got hooked. It was beautiful to see my photos in something other than on my computer. I then wrote a list of my next digital photo projects (again working with most recent photos)and started tackling one by one. It wasnt about being fancy and creative with my digital books but rather getting my photos off the computer and onto something tangible. Now 15 books later (tons of photos in each book) family and friends can reminicse over the photos and get a great laugh at how we looked back then. Next task...dig up the printed photos in shoe boxes and plastic bags under my bed/ in closet and start creating traditional scrapbooks without worrying about how to decorate each page but rather, getting as many photos and memories captured on that page. It may not be fancy and colourful but is definitely better than in a shoe box under my bed.

I too have so many pictures. I try to keep them organized in folders on my computer by month and then each year i make a main folder where i move each month as it passes.

I have tons of pictures that are only filed under the date I downloaded them. They are not sorted the way I would like and it would be nice to have an easy way to do it.

I hear you Jen....in the same situation myself. Tons of photos, not dated nor organized. I really need a method / system to do so. Work photos are mixed in with family photos right now, not good. Sony VAIO looks like a fantastic solution.

My husband and I take a lot of photos of the kids and pets and wild life and organizing is a problem. It takes for ever to find a certain picture to show off
so if there is a program that would help I would be sure interested

Would love this!!! I think I may have a sick fetish when it comes to photos... my daugther is just over a year old and I think i'm in the 10's of thousands of pictures! Yep... you heard correctly... multiple pics every day for the last 13 months!!!

I need tips - I'm going to start reading all the comments! I have way too many photos and they are not organized at all. The task is so daunting, I'm not sure it will ever happen.

My challenge with photos is the pure numbers of photos, and what the heck to do with all of them! All the scrapbooking in the world could not cover the subjects or images... And I am so behind from my first daughter, nevermind my second one, that I fear I'll never catch up. Maybe I will hand them albums for their retirement parties.

This program would definitely help me keep organized!

I often feel way behind when it comes to technology. I am still trying to figure out how to import and email and store so a product like this really appeals to me..

My biggest photo challenge is organizing them. They are all over my computer and they need to be categorized and easily accessed. That would make me very happy!

Wow! It's just the right thing for me as I have tons of pics that are not organized. It would be amazing to have. Hope I win !!!

I have taken literally thousands of pictures with my digital camera. Needless to say I need help to put them in order. I'm not very computer wise so any help in that direction would be certainly appreciated.

I have shaky hands - made even more shaky when I am trying to take a pic. Getting a pic that is in focus is really hard. I also find that night time park pics are hard to get.

I store my photos on an external harddrive just in case my computer crashes! We've had a few close calls. And I have millions of photos. I also keep them on a Flickr account. You just can't be too careful when it comes to those precious memories!

My biggest problem is the sheer volume of photos. We have put most photos on discs so we always have to go looking through dozens of discs to try to find anything. And nothing is really organized or edited so it's pretty much a big mess.

I don't have alot of photo's on my computer yet as I just got a digital camera and will be using it when we take our trip to Florida at the end of June. I am definately going to use the tips given. I have yet to purchase Windows 7 yet but that will be next on my list of things to buy.

I didn't back up my photos and lost a lot of them when my computer quit. Thankfully I can replace most of them with the help of the rest of my family

I have no organization system for my photos. I haven't renamed them so I have to open each and every photo to find the one I want. Also I have not backed them up let alone printed out any of them. I'm lazy and don't have the time or energy to manage them.

Frist I am still learning in how to post photos on my computer from any source of digital media. Windows 7 is a great organizing software tool for photos on any personal computers. It is amazing how one can have lots of photos organized together.

I think with photos you have to treat it almost like a job or it gets put off. I try to do everything picture related the first Monday of every month. Mondays are not always the funniest day of the week but seeing the fun pictures I have taken of my family usually cheers me up. I will spend at least 30 minutes editing, burning and then dropping them off to be developed. I do scrapbooking so it goes along with that hobby. But an updated computer with pic software would get used in my house.

I was really good about printing off digital photos to put in my kids baby books...since then (now aged 4 and 6) I haven't been quite so diligent! I think this software is great for busy moms!

I'm into photography as its one of my most treasured hobbies.Having a program that would do all the organization when I've done so much already (like editing) would make my life much easier.

My computer is on the verge of crashing. It`s so old and has so many pictures on it that it takes forever to boot up. A new computer to organize and assist me would be a life saver!

Although I do back up some of a lot of my pics on DVD there are so many to sort through still . Anything to help would be a miracle .

My computer is super full of all our digital photos from our baby's first year. I tried my best to back them up on USBs but i have like 10 USBs. I usually do my edditing with Picasa to get the red eye out. I organized my photos by month ... this program/laptop would be absolutely perfect for us since we have over 1000 pictures that really need to be organized. Whenever i attempt to even try i feel so overwelmed. This would be an awesome help for me and my precious family photos :O) Great contest!

I love being organized and this would help. A new computer would be an asset to me...

I find that when I transfer my pictures to my computer, I also send them right away to be developed at costco online photos store. That way I actually have pictures that I can place in albums. And if I don't do it right away, they just take up space on my computer, and I don't ever look at them.

One thing I would love to do is to send them to an online photobook place like http://www.shutterfly.com/ and have a beautiful book sent to my house. That is in the planning stages of organization for me anyways.

My husband always downloads our pics then it takes me a long time to find them and reorganize, so I rarely get on to do it cause it takes so long so this would help alot for me and him. GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!!!!!!!

i definitely need help organizing my pictures-since I got my digital camera-still struggle with novice computer skills so any program that simplifies this would be wonderful!

Hi, I just watched the video for the Micro Soft Windows 7with the touch screen and am extremely interested. It makes picture management so very easy. My youngest daughter is getting married next July (2011), and I wanted to make a video of the bride & groom showing them from birth untill now and I think The Windows7 with the touch screen would help me tremendously. I have a physical disability, and do make mistakes often using the keyboard - this just seems to be the answer to my dream! I really need a new computer (mine is 15 years old, and my son just keeps taking it and updating it as much as he can to keep me online as it does help me both physically and mentally) This video was something that I thought I could do and wanted very much to do it as I can't physically do much to help my daughter with the wedding preparations. It would truly be amazing to have!!!
I also have boxes of pictures ranging from about 1940 to present that I am trying to scan, and put in order for my kids to have for reference for their family heritage. Again, MicroSoft Windows7 would be the answer.
I would truly consider myself blessed, and lucky to win one.

Organized digital photos is a a foreign concept in this household :) I have literally multiples of thousands of photos that require sorting. A daunting task that I really need to undertake sooner than later (those memory cards get filled really quick and it seems easier to get a new card than to download). This new system sounds like something I would love to investigate further. Thanks for the info and the opportunity to win!

My tips about photo is to store them in a separate cd and movies clips in another cd so not to get mixed up. I like to win the sony laptop.

This is fantastic...technology just keeps getting better and better...although I'm sure I'll still need my daughter to show me the ropes! lol I'm waiting for her to help me with sizing pictures from their originals to a more appealing size...I THINK it's called cropping. I'm certain many of you can relate! UGH! :D

this would be awesome prize

I know like so many others that if I don't get to my pictures right after the holiday or event it's a lost cause. I really do try to taken my new pictures from the camera onto the pc for editting, comments, enlargements, etc. within the first week I have taken the pictures. I also have been puttung the albums onto disks that way freeing up pc space.

Images aren't just pictures. One of my daughters uses the PC to draw original artwork. Easy organization and tagging will help keep themes and subjects straight.

My biggest problem? I find that the same set of pictures often gets burned to four or five different disks and ends up in four or five different desktop folders. I don't know how it happens, but it drives me crazy!! My best tip? Use a great song and a good movie-making program to create a fantastic slideshow. It puts hundreds of pictures into an easy-to-use and enjoyable format!

I'm in serious need of that program. I'm a hand on type of girl.
V

time...who has time to sit and organize, really. i don't.

Its a miracle that I've got photos on my computer to begin with. I Have a great scanner so even the closet full of photo albums can FINNALY go to storage.

The program looks like a great idea. I would love touch tech. in my home.

Good Luck Everyone!!

OMG! That is exactly what I need! I have over 6000 pictures on my computer! I keep talking about backing them up, but doing that will not help organize them. Crossing my fingers I win!

I have hundreds of pictures and they do tend to get disorganized. I used Picassa to gather them together which helped. However somehow a whold bunch of the photos got corrupted. Thank goodness I had them backed up on a cd and a second backup on an external hard drive.

I would like to scan all the old family photos and make an album of them so I can give it to family members. Right now they are all in a box. I had tried to organize them a few years ago and did about half of them, noting who the people were on the back in pencil. When I am gone nobody will know a lot of the people in the photos.

Dealing with photos is always an issue. Just when I think I am catching up (when I am only 4 months behind for example) then I have to catch up on other things and get behind again. I can't wait to see the Windows 7 answer to photos. I have started trying to delete pictures on my camera whenever I get a chance and this has helped a little bit. Then after I transfer them I do a quick review and delete any blurry or other poor photos.

I would love to win this contest and be able to finally have my pictures organized. I have tons of pictures in so many different folders on two different computers. I think every time I save a picture to my computer it goes into some different file. Urban Moms always has great contest and are easy to enter....

I give the photos to my husband and for some reason can't put them in the right order. With the use of a computer and a good program he may get it right.

I so need this! I have soooo many pictures! What a neat program! It is like you are touching real pictures! Hope I win!

When I used to use my old Canon I took so many shots during our travels, then I would get them developed hoping to score some impressive shots. Well the average shots I could not throw out and they accumulated in a box. Since I have switched to a digital camera I am able to delete on the spot but I still find I return from trips with not just a roll or two of 32 but more like 132 or more!!!! Sifting through photos is very time consuming I need easy to find tools to edit and ease the process so that it doesn't become such a chore. A touch screen as shown in the video seems to simplify the editing process and makes a collage of photos so much quicker than what I am presently doing.

its so annoying when you find a card with older pictures on it and are positive that you have downloaded them but did not clear the card. So you start to download them again, not getting the warning that "this picture already exists" so you carry on , finding out that they are downloaded but you actually put them in a file but once they are in a file they are invisible!

I use my computer for both old and new photos. I'll scan in the older ones to have one repository. It's handy to have one spot for everything, but it can be overwhelming at times to with how you name your pictures and how you will remember what you name them later. Especially when there are thousands.

I would love to be able to organize the past 3 years of pictures. I take alot of pictures & they are everywhere.

i am still trying to figure out how my scan pictures can be regular size! all old scanned photos are so small!

For my sister who has yet to enter the digital age. Would love to share this with her.

OMG, my husband keeps trying to "fix" the family computer all the time and ended up crashing the system and now I have lost well over 2,000 photos-and I was trying to compile them to do my first showing (gallery) every, and now I have nothing to go with:( My own pc to work from and edit my creations would be a dream for me!

Computers are the filing cabinets of photography. I'd be lost without my computer for organizing my photos.

I need help organizing my photos. I have so many! This prize would be of so much help.

Wow, it is so true. Who would have ever imagined that we could have so many photos, yet have them so accessible through our computers and ipods!?

I have to say my husband is pretty good at organizing our digital media. We were original Windows 95 beta testers. So we've had every version of Windows as beta before release. It has been painful so many times but ultimately once versions were final, we do enjoy our digitally-oriented home. We have not printed photos in earnest in 1/2 a decade. We frame the odd one but because our tv's are connected to our media PC's so we watch our home videos frequently and our family photos randomize when we play music or the tv is idle.

Our family used computer to store and share lots of digital picture and scan many art works from since our childrens' scribble, certificate, songs lyrics, youtube link ..... and sometimes my children even use these images to create different wallpaper e.g. the Vancouver winter Olympic masquots 2010 are so cute, they use them as the wallpaper.

Computer touchscreen capability would definitely help organize and manage photo files more efficiently. The photo editing function could create the perfect picture!

Loaded the software that came with camera and tried to view, adjust and save pictures of important even but could not effectively use the camera software. Dislike the lack of a paper manual. Using the computer manual was time consuming and not very helpful.

I had so many pictures, but unfortunately, I have lost many due to my computer crashing and not having them organized and downloaded. Some of these pictures I will never be able to get back, so it is now time to start taking some new pictures to enjoy and put them somewhere so everyone can enjoy

Digital photos have changed the way we live. The fact that we can instantly transmit what we're seeing is incredible.

I have such a bad time trying to find the pictures that i took that i like...do too computer melt downs ....hehe...i put some on disk (which i don't know which ones are on which disk) and the last 1000 or so ( my kids call me a picture bug, cause i am always bugging them for a picture) i put on a memory stick...that i don't remember where it is.....As far as organizing them i am completely clueless, i usually go buy date as to when i download them but that's it.

I cannot believe my son is already a year old... with that being said I have over a years worth of disorganised photo's. From the baby shower, the birth, family get togethers, holidays, you name it theres pictures of it! Half of the time my computer dose not properly load the pictures so i have to try it a good 3 times before they are on the computer then I feel so overwhelmed when it comes to me trying to organize all of these captured memories. I need a computer that allows me to effectivley upload and organize my photos so i can print some of these pictures off but as it stands i dont know where to start. I would love to have a computer that would make looking back on my sons first year of life enjoyable...not tiresom and tedious effort as it is currently.

Love taking pictures of my kids and grandkids and all the digital gadgets! but so hard to organize enough to find a pic . Is it possible to really find that pic when you need it?!!!

Both my kids love to look at photos of themselves (what kid doesn't), by the time I find what I'm looking for and get them up and running, the requestor has usually given up and moved on to something more immediate, and I'm met with, 'never mind Mom, I'm busy now....."

I need the kind of camera that has a proper zoom to take pictures of my kids doing sports. Any suggestions?

I was so organized with my photos in photo albums....up until I had my 1st daughter. That was just over 3 years ago. I now have 3 daughters and maybe that's my problem...having 3 in 3 short years. I do not have ANY time to organize any photos. Now, they are all on my computer and I do manage to email at times to family, but beyond that, there is no time.

This would be a lifesaver! We have so many pics on our computer and our external HD is full up.

What an amazing tool! I could surely use one. I not only have our family photos that I need to organize, but I also have all of the photos that I take of my students. I spend so much time trying to organize pictures.

I could use this for sure, I have so many unorganized photos it's terrible.

I do use my photos regularily in digital scrapbooking on my computer and in my online photobook etc business, but the ones on my computer are totally not organized in any way. I really need to start tagging them or something...

oh how I would love to organize those digital photos. I have some very important photos that I would love to look at, but have had no luck in finding them. They are all on a CD and I really should be putting them all on the hard drive of my computer. CDs are so easy to lose.

I have over a thousand pictures that are just begging to be organized. I need help.

When it comes to organization, I need all the help I can get.

I try to keep major events organized in their own "album" on Photobucket, but it's all those miscellaneous pictures that keep piling up - I need suggestions on what to do with them!

Are you serious?????? This would be awesome, I take way too many pictures (always trying to capture that perfect moment of my children)
I'll bet you it was a mom who came up with this...brilliant.

I struggle with getting my photos organized, printed and put on a disc. I recently learned my lesson when my motherboard fried. As soon as I get the computer up and running I'm getting those pictures off the hardrive...........

This would be great to organize all of our photos.

I have so many photos on my computer I have tried to organize them but it takes too long, I am scared that some of them will get lost in the vast amount, that I have not cleared my memory card since my son was born 8 months ago! Being a first time mom you can imagine how many photos are on my card! (I think around 1000), I also have a photo editing software that scans my computer for pictures and then puts them in different folders (dated BUT Not the right dates for the pics) and then copies them to my pictures so I have duplicates in folders everywhere!!!!!!!!

I have a digital camera full of pictures yet I do not know what to do with them, I do not know how to upload to my pc. I also do not know how to edit them. I have four kids and I am afraid I will not have the memories in photos I want as I do not know what to do with my digital pics

I don't think I need any help in organizing my pictures yet ..... I've only got 18,279 photo in 176 folders so it's still pretty manageable. Haha! Who am I kidding!

Well I just got a deal at a Mother's Day sale on a film and negative scanner so it would be great to have a better way to organize the photos before we start digitizing our old slides and negatives.

I upload my digital pics to my computer and wait for a local store to have a sale on processing. Much cheaper and I get it done all at once!

They might not be able to articulate the situation very well, but they would at least give you some hints. The routine is the same everyday, seven days a week. I started the routine near the end of the first week.

I was supposed to be looking to buy picture frames but found your blog and thoroughly liked it. Thx

Gamu Nhengu fans descend on her street in X Factor protests...how did Gamu not get through?! It's insane.

I discovered your site while browsing for some thing different on Bing or google about topics related to movies, although I had the chance to look over this posting and I found it really useful certainly.

I know this is really boring and you are skipping to the next comment, but I just wanted to throw you a big thanks - you cleared up some things for me!

One photo book can change one's mood. A well-designed invitation card can also put a smile in a face. An electronic invitation card or an electronic photo book are the trend these days and if one doesn't have the time to do it, there are services that one can avail of.
