- A pedicure. Gnarly, dry feet and toes in sandals are simply gross.
- A manicure. Now, this one is new to me as I just started getting them done. The reason I never bothered? My nails were always chipping and bitten so what was the point. Well, the point is that manicures mean your nails won't chip and you won't bite them. It doesn't have to be a professional one but hands look a million times better when they have had a little TLC.
- Cover the gray. I started going gray young so I started covering my gray young. I don't want to look old before my time. But, I also don't want to be an 80 year-old blonde like my grandmother. There will come a time when I will embrace the salt-and-pepper but for now, I am holding on to my youthful brown.
- Hair management. Now this one's a BIG one and it gets bigger as one gets older. I am, by nature, a hairy person. I am dark therefore my hair is dark. This means a lot of work has to be done in this area to maintain the smooth. So, below I have shared a few strategies I employ aside from the regular shave.
Every teenage girl should be gifted a set of tweezers when she enters womanhood. Each morning I pull out my tweezers and snag a few stray eyebrows before applying my mascara. Tweezers are also great for getting access to those one or two unwelcome gray eyebrows. However, if you are regularly tweezing for more than maintenance you need to consider moving up the evolutionary hair management ladder to this:
Waxing or Threading:
I was into the threading for a few years but then I just couldn't handle the pain. It hurts and, in my opinion, it hurts more than waxing. I usually go for an eyebrow wax every 4-6 weeks and use my tweezers for maintenance in between. A professional will give you nice, evenly shaped eyebrows which you are unlikely to get if you do it yourself. I used to also do regular bikini waxes too until I discovered this:
Laser:
I will be honest, as I got older my bikini area acquired a mind of its own and decided to mount a hostile invasion on my upper thighs. Waxing or shaving caused ingrown hairs and didn't last very long so I took the leap and tried laser. Although definitely on the uncomfortable side, after 5 or 6 sessions it has made a world of difference. I will occasionally need to deal with a few strays and have had to go back once or twice but I have had no more ingrown hairs and overall the results have been fabulous.
This one is a recent addition to my hair management regimen and I only tried it because I was sent the Philip's SatinPerfect Epilator to try. I admit, I was reluctant but I am so glad I tried it. I am not giving up my other tried and trues but this product has been added both to my maintenance list for legs, bikini, and underarms (a bit ouchy there) and is helping me deal with another hair challenge - the upper lip.
No self-respecting woman wants a mustache and the older you get the more likely you are to have to deal with this issue. In my opinion, threading and waxing are simply too painful and leave major red marks. Laser may work but is a big commitment and you can't have a tan when you do it (I do not set out to tan but even a slight summer sun-kissed look is a no-go). So, I gave it a try. Honestly? It was not pain-free but it was quick and it worked. Plus, there was hardly any redness or irritation. I did get one little ingrown hair that looked like a pimple but once I started exfoliating when I washed my face it was no problem. And once you've done it once the maintenance part is really easy.

I have a few bad hair removal habits.... I'd love to win that Epilator (my hubby would love you for it too - I'd be less furry in bed at night!!)
Even though I've been shaving for ..... um a lot of years... I STILL find myself dry-shaving over the bathroom sink! The legs are getting harder and harder to get up that high... but it STILL BURNS the exact same! Why I don't learn?! I must have bled out too much one time!
The other bad habit, which my hubby hates more than me, is taking his electric face shaver to do a quick once over right before we go out for the night. He's always so thrilled to find my long hair in the head of his shaver.
I tweeze shave and wax depending on my mood and pain tolerance. I love one of these gems!
I'm not ready to talk about my upper lip.
Love it, Elaine! I totally laughed out loud!
my last trip to get my eyebrows waxed, the lady asked me if she could do my mustache. I almost decked her. i heard bleach works....
I shave only my lower legs, since my mother told me at age 12 that I should NEVER shave my thighs, and since I never have, they never need it. Wax the brows, the armpits (or shave if I don't feel like shelling out the $$$) and also go for Brazillain waxes ever so often.
My husband is overseas so the time between our visits is long enough that I can go au naturale without any complaints, but I do like to keep it up for myself.
Of course that was supposed to be Brazillian wax. Ooooh...I hate typos. Oh, and for my tip...take an ibuprofin an hour before your waxing session. Helps a lot. Then exfolliate afterwards with brown sugar and a quarter grapefruit. I promise you will not have any ingrown hairs!
I use a hand razor with Aveeno gel on my legs.Works for me .Aveeno is great for sensitive skin. Every person has their own individual hair issues. A few years ago my daughter had her legs lasered and she hardly ever has to shave. It worked wonders for her.
For the longest time and up until now I shave using plain body wash in the shower with a plain old bic razor, my legs aren't that bad yet. I used to wax but stopped because it hurt too much and I kept getting ingrowns. I am saving to do laser and waiting of course until the fall to start. I guess winning one of these WOULD make my life easier...
schick intuition razors - I love em!!
I shave and pluck. I've tried all the Nair and VEET products and I think Easy Off over cleaner would do a better job. I have dark coarse hair on my legs and lip, and my facial hair is much more noticeable now. I find I spend WAY too much time doing maintenance.
I'd love to try this Phillips Epilator, but I'm hypersensitive to pain, and I don't know if I could manage it. It sure would be worth it!
My tip is have a completely different color (or type) of razor for each female resident!!! I have two teen daughters and I am constantly hearing "Who took my razor!" or "Who used MY razor?" !!! All of us would love this set.
FACAIL HAIR IS MY REAL PROBLEM. I WOULD LOVE TO TRY SOMETHING OTHER THAN PLUCKING
Conditioner works for shaving makes for smooth legs too !
I tend to stick with good old shaving. The one thing I've learned is that it really is worth it to buy a more expensive razor. After trying one of them, I would never ever go back to those cheap ones.
I'd love to try this out...between...waxing, plucking and shaving... and a 14 month old running around.. I'm spent! Something that would save me time would be awesome!
Well, I'm a huge fan of the new Veet First time. Have tried this in past and never worked, but this product works awesome. I bought an epilator some 25 odd years ago, it was a painful death by epilator. I pulled through, but your review on this one makes me think maybe they're better. I'm not just saying that because I have to scissor of the stash and beard once a week! I'm willing to give it another go.
I have only used tweezers and hand held razors thus far to rid myself of unwanted hair but I think I am ready for the next step with epilator like this Phillips product.
I wax my eyebrows and lip myself (seriously ignoring the lip will not make it go away!!) and use a good old fashion razor for the legs, bikini and underarms. I've tried the salon waxing, which was ok, but really didn't last as long as I thought it would and for the pain and expense, I'd rather just shave - that way I keep it all baby smooth all the time. With the waxing, I found myself shaving anyway! And OH MY GOD - I could not stand the little needle prick feeling of them plucking the few strays that the waxing missed!! I once tried the home waxing on my legs when my son was just a newborn and thought I was so smart and efficient by coating my whole lower leg with wax and placing all the cotton strips all around so I could just pull them off and be done with it. Ummmm.....I pulled the first one about halfway off because the shock of the pain made me lose my grip...walked around cursing and fretting for about 10 minutes, then went and soaked them off in warm water and vowed never to try that again!! Fast forward about 7 years when the memory must have worn off....because in all my brilliance I again decided to try waxing, however this time it was the bikini I would try....you see where this is going...well I ended up with a very smooth right side of the bikini after about 30 min of pull, curse, pant, pull, shout, labour breathing.....but the left side got the razor! I love my plain ole Gillette razor :)
When it comes to the face I used to bleach but started waxing a few years ago. Cold wax strips ruined my skin but once I learned about warm wax life got easier (except the time I spilled the wax all over the carpet).
I got my daughter an epilator last year and she loves it for her legs. Since she's never shaved, only waxed, her hair comes out easily. Would love to get one for myself.
I use my husband's razors Ha!Ha! I know but I find it's better than my own disposable razors.I also use tweezer's too. It's tough being a woman and even tougher keeping up with growing, hairy legs!
I use a hand razor for everything, well, except my face for which I use a tweezer. I have really hairy arms which I leave as they are but I really would love to find a quick, efficient and inexpensive solution.
I don't have alot of time for maintenance being a mom of 3, so a good razor & soap, I don't like the shaving creams, and fast shave in the shower is all I have time for:):):)
tried tweezing, creams, shaving & sugaring. would love a less mess (creams), no nicks (shaving), cheaper (sugaring) solution!
After having children I found that my "bikini line" was becoming a "bikini bike trail" down to my knees. Well, I decided it would be a great idea to try home waxing......so I go out and purchase the wax, heat it up, and follow the instructions to gently swab it over the area to be waxed. Little did I realize the acute pain you have to "cause yourself" to pull these lovely "pain-free" strips off your thighs and bikini trail! Very long story made short...I ended up running around the house with my underware pulled up in all I can say was a "frontal wedgie" attempting to do anything to get this stupid wax off in anyway OTHER than pulling off the strips! I ended up heating the wax with my hairdryer enough to pull it slightly enough to get a pair of scissors in between my skin and the wax so I could actually cut the hair! Needless to say, I think that my husband's razor is the best solution to unwanted "hair down there"!!!!
I have been getting my legs waxed for the past 25 years. I have parents that are hairy. You can imagine how their children turned out.lol Shaving is a big no no. It only grows back more and thicker. I went through hell when I was younger. I could not afford waxing During the summer months I would wear pant because the hair would grow back fast and I would break out into a rash if I didn't shave when the hair was longer. Can you imagine my nightmare. Thank God for waxing. I have less hair growing below my knees now, my upper legs and bikini, you don't want to know.lol
I have a wonderful husband. It doesn't bother him at all. He just wants me to be happy. Thank god for men like my husband.
Waxing is best if you can not afford laser treatment.
I personally use a razor for the legs and underarms and get my eyebrows waxed wherever I find it the cheapest. I need to start doing the bikini area, somehow I started growing extra hair there as I aged...hunh??? and I'm a little nervous with the razor, the thought of wax.."down there" scares the heck out of me so I would love to try the epilator!
I use razors for everything, tried waxing (eyebrows) and didn't really see the point of paying for that service. I'm luckier than most though because I'm blonde and you really can't notice my body hair. That is unless you catch me during the winter with my pants off.....lol. I go for awhile without shaving then. My poor husband has to put up with that every year. :)
I find threading my eyebrows and then just maintaining with tweezers, I can go two to three months without having to go to the salon to have them redone. Waxing the underarms and lower legs has always been the way for me. After a while you become desensitized to the pain. Although, hearing about laser has me intrigued....A girlfriend of my uses the epilator and swears by it. I would love to try it!
The worst part about facial hair? Once I hit 40 I suddenly started finding these CRAZY long stray hairs on my face or under my chin! Seriously, how did I not see it until it was an inch long? Oooh, I guess I really do need to make an appointment with the optometrist! As for the crazy longs, tweezers will do - for now!
Ok, I am soooo glad others have mentioned the "increase" in their woo-who area... seriously - what's up with that?! Is it an age thing?
I use a 3 (or 4) blade (don't remember the make) razor, in the shower. I shave, lower leg, armpits and bikini (I wear one of those boy short swimsuits so it's GREAT if you don't have time or have that terrible stubble/rash after shaving). I really hate how often I have to change the blade of the razor - it seems it's every week or 2 and I only shave every other day at most! Those little nicks you get when the razor just isn't quite sharp enough are frequent and painful. Also, it seems the underarm hair just isn't yielding to the 4 blade anymore, maybe there's 12 different ways the hair grows but it never seems totally smooth which drives me nuts! I used to wax but it caused lots of ingrown hairs so I stopped that painful madness. I'm getting lazy (or perhaps annoyed) as I get older by the fact I could shave my legs 2x a day - on principle, I just can't do it. My husband's never complained but in the summer with a nice pedi, I need those legs looking smooth which is getting harder to accomplish with the razor method. I would LOVE the Epilator, it sounds like an easier method that works well. Jen, I also loved your writing about grey hair, don't get me started on THAT topic, do you have a solution for that?
i can't deal with the man legs i have. i have to wax because...
a) i get 5 o'clock shadow literally! and the pain of the hair growing back in is too much...
b) my legs are too long (not complaining about that!) and it would take me 45 minutes every day to shave and i can barely have a bathroom break without 'visitors'...
c) at least when it grows back after waxing it's soft and silky albeit black as night and i don't rip the skin off my husbands body with the industrial strength sandpaper that invades my legs after shaving.
i did try an epilator once and learned my lesson to tie the hair on your head back when you're using it. i was leaning over to check my progress when it was on and got it stuck to my head.
I am super hairy. Thick, dark hair and I hate it. It's almost impossible to control. I had laser done on my upper lip and neck, but it didn't work and I can't bare the thought of going back! I also used to spend about $80 a month on waxing at a salon... but one day at WalMart, I spotted the Remmington Essentials Epilator and decided to try it out. It cost the same amount as one month of waxing, so I figured why not? If it works, I could save a fortune! I LOVE it! It's a bit time consuming, and I do get the occasional ingrown hair, but nothing terrible. The only disappointing thing about it is that there are only 2 attachments for it (one shaver, one epilator) which are quite large so it limits my ability to use it in smaller areas like my upper lip - which I really need to since laser treatment failed! I love that the Philips SatinPerfect as different attachments for different areas!
I use a razor with hair conditioner in the shower for legs & underarms, and a depilatory for my face. No matter what kind of depilatory I use (ie. sensitive skin) I always get a rash, so I always have to make sure to do it a few days before an event to have time to clear up!
I had a bad waxing experience that ended in little scabs all over my legs, bikini and armpits. Not a good look on the beach in Mexico!
I use a razor and am not thrilled with the results - but too scared to wax there again!
I would love to try Philips's Epilate SatinPerfect because hair is such a big issue with me. I use a razor on my legs, bikini and underarms, and find the best time to shave is right after a bath. It is my face that gives me the most trouble. I can't go by a mirror without grapping my tweezers. I spend way too much time tweezing and now my face is a mess. I have acne now due to ingrown hairs, and constant face touching, and I never had skin problems when I was younger. I am embarrassed with how my face looks.
I have waxed and lasered in the past....would love to win this prize....my husband of 25 years would love it too!
I shave everything daily, with razor and shaving gel, , tweeze daily, never had laser or wax...I really need to try something new...love to win this to give it a try
Im a mom of a toddler and pregnanat with #2. Funds are lower and time is scarce, so I look more like a WOOKIE lately. Being pregnant and holding a razor in your hands and trying to shave parts YOU CAN NOT SEE is kinda scary. Sounds like the SatinPerfect Epilator may save my bikini area from looking like EDWARD SCISSOR HANDS gave me a shave.
oops...no spellcheck. I meant to write PREGNANT!
I rely on a razor, used with soap or shaving cream - yes, including on my face. It works okay, but I suspect one of these epilators would do a job that would last a lot longer.
With 3 women (me and my two girls) in the house shaving we have so many items and each of us like (or dislike) hair removal differently. I would love to have this so that my youngest will actually start shaving, as is now it's a big fight because she hates razors, and waxing. I hope I win and she'll be a happy and hair free teen!!!
I shave my legs and armpits and tweeze my eyebrows and face (more and more face-tweezing required as I age)! If I don't win this prize, I'm going right out to buy one!
I tried waxing once, never again. I use a razor and tweezers for the brows. Would love to try an epilator, as my face is getting quite fuzzy. I hate it, it is impossible to wear foundation of any kind now. Thank you menopause => NOT!
ok....I"M EUROPEAN....with that said, you know how hairy I am now.
I've tried just about everything: Joleen (bleaching - don't do it!), tweezing/plucking (ok for strays), shaving (disposable razor and electric too) (ok for quick fixes, waxing (longer lasting - use baby powder to dry area first), sugar waxing (I find it stickier), and lazer (the most expensive and most effective)....but hair does still come back.
I must admit, I have not tried the epilator. I'm not sure how effective it would be; but would love to have first hand experience with that one.
The worst areas for me: lower back, stomach, cheast, bikini area, moustahe, and beard!!! Remember, I said I was European! :) I'm now also in my 40's so hormonal changes have given a boost to my hair growth! Can you imagine a European with a boost in hair growth???
Story of my life!!!
I usually use facial hair removal cream for my upper lip hair. I find that the hair usually grows back a bit lighter each time.
I have been using an epilator for many, many, many years and find it fabulous - would love a new one before the old one dies : - )
I am "blessed" with LOTS of body hair and even more "blessed" that it is dark! After having kids, I started getting dark hair on my chin and upper lip. After having to thread every day, I finally decided to dish out the money for laser, and am starting to see results after 4 sessions.
I would love to do something about my legs, arms and underarms too as they are pretty scary. Currently I shave the legs (although the smooth feeling only lasts for less than a day!) and wax my arms/underarms.
I'm gaime for anything that will make me less hairy (I'm sure th ehubby would appreciate it too :)
I had great luck with lazer hair removal for my upper lip but it only did the black hairs not the white ones.
I shave EVERY day. And we are not talking legs. I have a serious amount of facial hair due to the fact that I tried every form of birth control known to man kind.....and let me tell you that depoprovera made me into a wolf-woman! I tried lazer.....but my hair just grew back! So now I just shave every day......not exactly sexy! I would love to to win the SatinPerfect Epilator........then maybe my face will be less wolf like :) Go team Jacob!
In high school, I bleached my moustache (it was really peach fuzz, but to a teenager, it's Tom Selleck's upper lip!). Left it on a tad too long, and burnt my upper lip, and, yes, went to school like that. I've used bleach since (no longer than ten minutes at a time! LOL). But of the late I use Silky Skin (as seen on TV) Hair Removal Epilation (small box for a product that packs a big punch - I LOVE IT!). It fits on your finger and it has a "sand papery" side that you rub in a circular motion on your upper lip. I felt silly using it at first but it is now my new method. I found the same product called Smooth Legs Deluxe in a similar box. Not sure if I found both at a Dollarama...I know one I did, for a dollar!!! There's bigger ones in the same box for your legs and elsewhere, but call me a creature of habit...on those I still use a razor and Dove soap!! :D

My wife usually tweezes or plucks, this product would sure help her.
I've always been self-conscious about my facial hair, and it seems to be getting worse as I get older. In addition to that, I always worry that I missed shaving every spot on the back of my thighs/knees/calves (that darned hair even grows around my ankles, and that's very difficult to shave without cutting myself!). It's a chore that I'd much rather not have to face, but alas we all suffer from it. There's times I wish that I could just let myself go, and then people would simply get used to seeing me so hairy! Ha ha! As far as tricks and tips go...just keep up the maintenance - this is something that we all have to contend with unfortunately. I've never tried an epilator before, so winning the Philip's SatinPerfect Epilator would be a real treat, and I just know I would use it regularly (there's no doubt about that one!)
I enjoyed reading the comments posted by everyone.
Atleast I know I'm not alone with an embarrassing unwanted hair problem... I've used threading, waxing and shaving.. depending on how much time I have. I need to maintain eyebrows, upper lip and chin on a daily basis so the tweezers have to do that job.
It would be so convenient to have and be able to use the epilator. I do so hope to win.. this is an awesome prize.
I have never tried threading but I heard it wasn't that bad and I do tweeze my brows but not as much as I should. My feet always look good all year as I pumice my feet all the time and feel like a babys bum all the time and I really hate seeing womens feet all dry, white and disgusting looking and they simply should not be wearing sandles or any open shoes to show it off as noone wants to look at it or see it.
I guess I'm a plain ol' soap and razor kind of girl - although this method doesn't seem to be working as well for me anymore. I am Italian, so my hair is dark & coarse, and seems to grow inches overnight - ewwww...! I have to shave the underarms every day and other parts at least every other day or it gets gross!
I've tried waxing "down there" which amounts to way too much pain and torture, but shaving doesn't do the trick either. I'd love to win the Epilator to tackle this area! My underarms are starting to break out in a rash every time I shave, so I need another method there as well.
Then there is the horrible dark hair that lives above my upper lip - I've tried shaving that occasionally (yes, I know that's dumb and it grows back thicker - I was desperate, ok?) and bleaching (ended up with a terrible rash!) so I'm eager to try laser hair removal now.
My eyebrows have a mind of their own, and look like giant fuzzy caterpillars if I don't get waxed regularly. Can you say Mono-brow? Yuk!
So please, free me from this horrible mountain of unwanted hair!
I have tried everything to conquer or just tame my hair. I've tried laser hair removal, electrolosis, waxing, depilatories, shaving with every type of razor and even epilators.
The epilator I tried at my sisters was called bikini bliss-phillips bikini perfect. I recommend if you have smaller areas to tame, it worked well on my side burns and when they grew back out it wasn't noticeable. The bikini bliss is small and not really large enough to deal with my massive problem.
The laser hair removal, after having spent a lot of money, didn't do much for my facial hair. I only went three times but I did not see any improvement. Electrolosis wasn't very helpful. I think I have to much hair to see results not to mention the ouch factor.
Waxing is helpful, especially for my legs. I have seen long-term reduction in hair growth after just a few waxing sessions. Now I have monster hairy legs and waxing is ungodly painful for me. My guess is that it damages my root right away. When I wax, I try to do it at a beauty school, which reduces the cost a lot.
My regular method is shaving though. I shaving everywhere....neck, chest, face and legs. My favorite razor is venus breeze. It seems to help me get through shaving faster and with less razor burn. I purchase mine in bulk from Costco and for 35 dollars I have enough razors to last 4-6 months. I rarely shave my legs completely though my hair grows back very fast and very rough. I wear a lot of pants in the summer.
I think an larger epilator could be really helpful. I may buy it, especially after having had tried their smaller phillips epilator and knowing it did a really good job. I've considered buying these at home laser hair machines, they sell it at Costco. I may still do it at some point. I'd like to try the epilator first.
I have a ten year old Epilady that I brought from Australia with me- they were more popular there. It is the best for underarm and lip but a bit labourious for the legs. I could use an updated model, I'd be interested whether they have made any improvements. Tweezers eyebrows, man's razor for legs.
I wax at home and have my own waxpot ,and use a soft wax, usually all through the winter i do my brows, and underarms and bikini, then when summer comes i do hate waiting for it to grow to be long enough to wax so usually i end up shaving.
but doing waxing at home saves tons of money!
I use the schick intuition on legs and underarms on my face I do some waxing but boy does it hurt and I really dread doing it ,I cant use hair remover creams because it gives me some bumps. as Im getting older Im starting to worry about the hair on my face I even thought about using that small comb shaver I see on TV because when my fine face hair starts getting a bit to long it make my makeup sit funny on my face sometimes .I remember I was so upset by this about a month ago I had to go to a party and my makeup was just not blending to well in areas that some fine hair is growing so I just shaved it all off with a one of those bic soleil razors my face looked smooth for a month after that and I may just do that again if I get go and angry enough -I would absolutely love this shaving set it would really solve some major hair removing problems .You know I hear that women in France always shave there faces in order to get a matte makeup finish ,even coverage and exfoliation .I hear that worrying about hair becoming dark or course is a myth and that shaving your face will just make you look younger .Im so tempted to do that regularly, because everything including moisturizer blends in so much better with none of those fine hairs getting in the way
Just tried laser for the first time yesterday(underarms and bikini), less painful than electrolysis(bikini and eyebrows)and threading(eyebrows) felt like I was being electrocuted with each hair being removed.
Hoping for good results.
I still shave my lower legs and sometimes my upper thighs. I find it hard to get all the hair around my knees.
I know that day will come, really really soon, where I will have to do something with my moustache. Ouch! I would love to win the Philip's Epilator.
BZ moms like us,,, I don't have that much time anymore to do waxing at home. I found a neighbor who does everything for me. But for quick fix,,,I often reach for the razor or tweezer. Oh the amount of money I will save if I win!!!
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to win a Philips Epilate SatinPerfect! I don't get a lot of "Mommy Maintenance" time in my house full of boys. In the winter, I mostly give up on spending tons of time in the shower shaving. But now that summer is here, I'll need to FIND that time! Who wants to display hairy legs and underarms... and toes!? And with getting "older", my face is a whole other problem! AAAAHHH! I endure the discomfort and expense of waxing only if we're actually going somewhere for a week or longer -- otherwise, it's the big, bad blade! Like I said... I would LOVE a new Epilator!!! Pick me please!
Winter - Leave the hair, it is good insulation.
Summer - wax your legs, lasts longer. Would love to try laser for my underarms but too chicken. Always game to try the epilator. I used one years ago and it was OK but I am sure the technology has changed for the better.
I tweeze and shave and would love to stop doing both....but the invasion of the body hair continues....HELP>??
Hair hair everywhere!
For my legs, regular shaving does it for me - love the gillette venus razors.
Now my face, well that's a different beast, there is hair growing in spots I never knew it could!!
Threading of my eyebrows and waxing for the rest. Yes ripping your face off is not a treat, but how you look after makes it all worth it. You do get a bit more used to it as you go. A little aloe gel also helps to sooth after the treatment.
Oh, and I only threaded my upper lip once, never again, too sensitive/painful as it's painstakingly slow. Wax and get it done in a couple of pulls!
Having said all that, what's really cool is we're all talking about hair. I bet many of you thought you were alone!
I absolutely hate shaving and hate paying so much for a decent razor. I too have bikini area issues - so much so I can only wear boy short bottoms for my bathing suit!!!
I don't wax my eyebrows...fastest way to the surgeon for an eye lift.
I do wax my upper legs and bikini, and as I get older there appears to be less hair, and the time is faster.
My European "face lady", told me not to get Laser hair removal, the hormones may bring the hair back...and a waste of money.
I shave my lower legs, and underarms daily.
So far so good...
I use Smooth Away for my legs, works really well. Occationally I'll wax my brows, but not very. For any shaving I have found the Venus Embrace to work WAY better than any other shaver I have ever tried. especially for the coarse underarm hairs I get!
What a great prize. Would surely love this. I am in my late fifties and due to those things that happen to you as you age, I noticed a few little hairs growing around my chinny chin chin. Never mind the legs, arm pits. I use razors, creams, but would love to try something new!
I'm Italian...need I say more...I could really use this Phillips Satin Epilate SatinPerfect..all over...hey if Italians aren't talking about food you can be sure the next topic is hair removal. Brazilian for the girlie bits for me, and shaving the underarms...i would love to try your product..it sounds amazing.
I would love to win this, i have seriously been bothered by upper lip hair now, even though its blonde i have started to look at everyone now to see if they have it and it now bothers me, so i went and plucked it all the other day...now im worried its going to grown back like a man! this little gadget would be perfect, better than painfully plucking those little buggers.
For facial hair I use electrolysis. For all the rest I use a razor, which often stings and is messy.
I use razors which I am fed up with the cuts & the stinging - I keep saying I am going to get one of these.. Getting older does add minutes to the ritual!
I've been watching my fifteen eyar old daughter come to grips with hair removal and I don't envey her. Thus this system would be a "God send!" It seems like every apporoach has its drawbacks. For me, keeping sharp razor blades is challenging enough!
no tips or tricks here...and waxing scares me
I think I have tried everything!
I have lasered my underarms after years of waxing them - I always had a wicked five o'clock shadow under there so I endured the waxing and then when laser was affordable I jumped on that bandwagon!
Legs I usually wax but will sub with a Schick Intuition when I have a special occasion and need to be silky smooth.
Brows I tweeze, I was a hard-core waxer but after 15 years it seems like a lot of it just doesn't grow in anymore.
Bikini is PROFESSIONALLY waxed. I have too many horror stories about home waxing that I've vowed to leave the Brazilian up to the professionals. Every girls night out I typically had a story of my latest adventure. Since switching to french wax done by a pro I have only waxed my butt together ONCE. LOL!
I think all of my shaving habits are bad, but they work for me... i have never been able to shave with cream or soap or anything like that (just never worked for me) so its been dry shave over the bathtub for years now... Im trying to tell myself that it doesnt hurt that bad cause its fast and i got a year old son to chase after. As for my upper lip I am only 24 and I have been painfully aware of it for years now. *GROAN* I wax it, I pluck it and *gasp* shave it when i have no money... SAVE ME!! lolz
I don't have a lot of time as a busy Mom, but something like this would really come in handy!
This looks a lot better than the fast yet very painful THREADING of the eyebrows!!!
I would really love to win this epilator to eliminated my mustache and growing beard, and to save time shaving my legs.....it lasts longer than a razor--only a few hours, and I have the -5 o'clock shadow on my legs!
With the stray long hair growing on my chin and upper lip, tweezing is the best here. But with shaving legs, I do tend to dry shave, however investing in a good hand lotion and applying after shaving keeps the dry skin down to a minimum, and is always nicely scented.
If I am not in too much of a hurry, I will use a quick coat of hair conditioner on my legs, even works well in the bikini area, before shaving. Rinse off quickly, and all is smooth with less nicks than usual.
My biggest challenge is my eyebrows, which seem to require an inordinate amount of maintenence. My best tips are an ice cube on the brows before tweezing (it numbs the pain) and exfoliating legs before shaving (the result will be incredibly smooth skin!)
I usually use a plain old shaver made for women(or my husband's) in the shower with shower gel foam on my legs and underarms with no problem. When I get out of the shower I put moisturizer on my legs and wait for a while before applying the deoderant. I once tried dry shaving-NEVER again!
On my face I use my tweezers for any stray hairs.
Thank you for the laughs!
exfoliate
I have thick black hair that grow everywhere and super quick. If I shave my legs in the morning I have to shave again in the afternoon again. Tried waxing, unfortunately I got a stubble the second day. Tried waxing the bikini area but once again the experience was awful and the hair grew in super quick. I tried sugaring which is well used in the Persia and found it to be less painful than waxing. Also tried threading. However I have never used an epilator and it would be great if I won. I would be the best spokesperson for this product as I would not stop talking about how great it is and how it affects my life, monetarywise and painwise. Also it would be awesome as my daugter is at the age where she will be starting to shave soon and it would be a welcome alternate for her as I would invest in one for her.
I had a bad waxing experience in Cyprus one year and was not anxious to ever try it again. I regularly pluck and try to keep the growth under control.
razors, and sometimes cremes.
I had a blonde couple hairs for a stash and shaved it years ago, BIG MISTAKE! The hair turned black and did get fuller plus it spread, tried everything but laser and with medical conditions I am just about allergic to everything,so I'm still usung a razor! Any help would be appreciated now in my late 40s Ugg it's getting to the sasquatch stage!!
Tried shaving, tried waxing. Waxing seems to go back almost as quickly as shaving....what's up with that? Decided to go laser hair removal route. I'll have to get back to you on that...it is a work in progress. LOL. Big $$$. What we don't resort to for vanity.
I use wax strips, unless I am in a hurry and then use a razor
I have tried razors, wax, cream and nothing works. My hair is coming in darker as I get older so I have resorted to shaving with a 5 blade razor and tweezing the ones that I miss.
I need a tip for how to remove that leg hair when I'm 8 mos pregnant and have a stomach in the way. I guess going hairy for a c-section could be entertaining.
I have to go for a c-section next week and have a picture of these hairy legs bared for all in the operating room to see. I don't believe their shaving extends to my legs. I need a tip for how to bend down and get the job down without toppling over.
I use a razor to remove hair. Have tried waxing before.
I tweeze the brows, leave the upper lip alone since its not dark hair on it ill embraze the peach fuzz. I have used a epilator before but it was a cheap one and it bite me. For now I've been going the gentle route with a good old(well new) shaver and shave gel for legs n bikini area.
P.S DO NOT use hair removal creme on bikini are no matter what the bottles says.
I like to soak in the bath before shaving my legs. I tried waxing once, I am not into that kind of pain.
I shave daily,I do it while bathing "kill two sirds with one stone" so to speak.... wish I never had to do it but unfortunately mother nature sees it differently!!
I started using sugar removal on my upper lip. I have sensitive skin and it caused less redness and bumps than waxing. I will do it again for sure!
Body hair has been an ongoing battle. I have tried all methods except Laser and epilation. Wish one was worth the pain and money.
I hate any kind of hair removing and have tried them all!
i love the microwavable no strip wax works great, but in a pinch i'll still bring the trusty razor into the shower
Jolen Bleach (for faces) was the gift of choice for 13 year old girls in my predominantly Portuguese/Italian neighbourhood! It served me well really until recent years and now I am trying waxing. Not crazy about it. Would love a new option. This one sounds good! Brazilians--tried twice and I wear the badges next to my childbirth badges. Holy cow it hurt. Worst part was while she was ripping the wax off me (and bits of skin I swear), she talked about how she went to high school with my husband. Ugh....
i am lucky so far that my hair isn't getting too many greys yet, and i don;t seem to have to shave my legs too much anymore, but now i am getting the sprouts coming out around the bottom of my chin! which i think is much worse than on the legs...i went for electrolysis but it still seems to come back after a few years, what is the permanent solution that really does work? i am still looking for it!
I have settled for shaving my face, armpits and lower legs once a day because I can't stand letting my hair grow long enough to try any other method. An epilator sounds like the way to go
I love the stripless sugaring on my face and other sensitive parts because it does not leave you really red and is I hardly get any ingrown hairs. It still hurts though and can be expensive. Why do we do this to ourselves? :) Really, why? Anybody?
I've been dealing with my hairyness since I was 11 and a boy in my gym class said, "did you steal your legs from your dog?". And it is not just my legs that are hairy. My family originates from Malta and many of us Maltese women have to deal with hairy legs, arms and faces. And when I say face I don't just mean upper lip and eyebrow(s), I also include my chin and cheeks (I know... yikes!). I've given up worrying about my arms even though they look like I stole them from a chimp, but my legs, bikini, underarm and face are always having hair removed in one way or another. I'll shave, wax, use a hair removal cream and have even had electrolysis. On my face, in between waxing I bleach. I need help and would love this product! The only tip I have is if you choose to get electrolysis you should probably either stick with it or just not go that route at all. It is painful and expensive and I did not stick with it. It probably helped me avoid a full Tom Selleck moustache, but the 12 year old boy moustache I now sport doesn't make me happy either. Anyway, good luck to everyone. Sounds like we all have the same hairless goals!
I was in grade six when I a fellow classmate commented on my sideburns and mustache. I was so horrified that I started shaving any hair on my face whoich resulted in a worse problem. As I grew older I stared to wax but I had to wait until the hair grew long enough to wax which for me this was a no no. So I continued to shave my face and any other part of my body that I didn't want hair. Unfortunately as many of you know the ingrown hairs were horrible. Plus my face started to have stubble and when you are 17 and your boyfriend is starting to notice this it is just so embarrasing. Before I decided to try laser hair removal I tried electrolysis but I couldn't stick with it. I found the process to long and tedious. Finally, I tried Laser and it worked wonders on my face. I found it to be expensive and certain parts of the face hurt more than others but I survived.
I would love to receive the Philip's SatinPerfect Epilator to use on my legs and underarms. Good luck to us all.
I use sugar, or wax
I find that if I moisturize before hand I gets no cuts or irritation.
I did put my hands in warm solution of epson salt and warm water for few minites before waxing
would love to win the Philip's SatinPerfect Epilator
I use wax for almost every unwanted hair.
I use a combination of waxing (eyebrows), shaving and plucking. This product looks very interesting.
First of I'd like to give credit to my dad for blessing me with a full face of hair. My mom doesn't even have to pluck her eyebrows. Why oh why did I not get that gene??? I have tried every thing with the exception of laser and find waxing works best for me. I hate the growing out period but those first few days after are great. I still do get excited when I hear of a new product which might be easier...is Philip's SatinPerfect Eplilator it??????
I use an epilator - so already a fan of that way of removing hair. Why am I entering the contest- because it is starting to get old. I found it painful at first but really all you need is either a glass of wine the first few times or use a desensatizing cream. Now I can do my bikini line and underarms with the epilator and it does not hurt at all. Doing my legs this way is fast and I find I don't have to do hair removal as often.
shave my legs every day in the bath with soap and water and my trusty safety razor
Philip's SatinPerfect Epilator would be a huge relief for all of us women! :)
It's enough for us to take care of our kids, pets, cook, laundry, gardening and cleaning.
i love my epil, use it all the time. it's older than my dog and could surely use a replacement, so a new one would be awesome!
i also use hard wax for my brow and lip.
now, what can i use for the hair on my chinny-chin-chin?
The best thing i ever did was go and get laser done. Lower legs, bikini and underarms.
I always had wicked ingrowns, people asked if i had bites on my legs, so i didn't wear shorts or short skirts for years. Finally got the laser done and i got a whole new wardrobe:)
I also have a friend who does sugaring,so that works great as well.
I have tried at home waxing and shaving so far but would love to try the epilator for the various hairy areas of my body. I would love to surprise my hubby with a "clean" down there area one night. I've been too scared to try doing anything down there for fear of catastrophic injury. Waxing my facial areas is fine so long as I give myself time to apply the special oil they supply to calm down the redness and rash I always get afterwards.
I would love to try the Epilator. I haven't changed my routine in 20 years.
I mostly wax and shave but would love to try the Epilator out.
i love this
I typically leave my hair removal to the pros - waxing the 'delicate' areas, threading my eyebrows, and highlighting my hair. What's that you say? Highlighting your hair? Well, today I'm getting over the trauma of having to have my formerly-beautiful long-ish hair cut short and layered, due to it BURNING off when I was blowdrying it yesterday. It turns out my hairdresser left the colour on too long (repeatedly) when I went for highlights. Yesterday was the last straw, and my hair actually singed off and burned to a crisp in some areas. $250 later, after a visit to the best salon in town, I now have a "chic" style that "is the best" the salon owner could do. I think my hair resembles Janet from "Three's Company" (except blonde) but my husband says it's more like Pat Benetar. Love is a Battlefield, I guess! Sooooo....I'd love to win this contest because I'd love a state-of-the-art home hair removal system, and also because I think it would help me get over the trauma of yesterday!
PS - Jen, what colour & brand is the polish on your nails in the above pic? GORGEOUS!
I will love this Philip's SatinPerfect Epilator, I always cut, burn myself. My boyfriends is always worried when I go in my bath for shaving :)
I wax and tweeze, would love to win this.
I shave in the shower. I wax my upper lips at home. I would love to own Philip's SatinPerfect Epilator .
I shave in the shower. I wax my upper lips at home. I would love to own Philip's SatinPerfect Epilator .
I use a razor with shaving cream.
I use a razor in the shower. I've just started getting my eyebrows pierced and need to look into some other types of hair control - as I get older the hair gets uncontrollable!
I won't lie - excess hair is the bane of my existence! It drives me crazy - I am constantly plucking, shaving and using cream hair removal on difference body parts! I'd love to get one of these as I think it could really help!
I have loved reading everyone else's tips because I can use them!
soak first, use a loofah or hand mitt to scrub away dead skin and always moisturize
I use regular disposable razor with shave gel and tweezers as needed. But at age 40, I am now growing a beard. TEll me, do they still have bearded ladies in the circus? (Just in case I need a job!)
well I shave my legs in the shower using soap & razor but so far found nothing that does not leaves red marks and bumps on the bikini area. I tried the hot wax, a comedy/nightmare. Sounds like the Philips's Epilate SatinPerfec might be just the thing for me.
I wax and shave, depending on my mood
I got laser treatment done
I always tend to take care of hair removal at home rather than a salon. I recently tried the Veet first time strips, and really like how easy they are to use & the results as well!
Shaving is such a chore. Why don't men have to shave?
I have done the plucking. Then I did electrolysis, waxing, sugaring, dipilatories. Tried some laser too but I am blossoming again and need more care.
I have tried most things. I shave in the shower. I just wish we could get it to stop growing.
I need something for my facial hair. This sounds great. Normally I just shave with Dove soap and a razor. Would love to try this.
Let's see.....I get my face threaded, my bikini and underarms waxed and I shave my legs
My shower is the only moment of peace I have in the day - and when it is shave day I get a longer shower! I know pretty pathetic but hey I need something to look forward for myself each day. I shave mostly, I did wax before children but they want to try it too and well they don't understand that boys can have hair on thier legs!
I use a razor for my legs and armpits.I like Intuition I like the built in soap bar.As Ive gotten older Ive gotten so much more facial hair ARGGG!I hate it it makes me feel so self conscience Especially when its bright out and I'm around friends.I usually resort to just plucking with tweezers and a magnifying mirror but its a endless job.Ive tried in the past hair remover creams but my face is so sensitive it was a bit to abrasive for me.Ive tried that product that is like a mini sandpaper to buff it away and that wasn't to bad!But the worst is I got a Tweeze off the infomercial and I thought that was the answer to my prayers but its hurts! It really pinches and makes me nervous to use so that is packed away in the back of the cupboard. So I guess I will keep on using my tweezers or else my boyfriend will have competition!I think I have more facial hair then him now!lol
I just recently bought an epilator and although painful.........works very well. I would love to get another one, as now my daughter is using mine :)
As I get older I have an increase in facial hair ie: mustache. But the hair seems a bit coarser & sometimes a bit longer than before. Gross. I tweeze that area but it's painful as I have sensitive skin. It's not something I can do in a hurry before leaving the house because the area swells & turns red. Yuck!!
I would love to try an epilator for the leg area to see how that works.
I would love an epilator. I have been waxing my legs at home but last time I took a layer of skin off instead and now I have a stripe of raw skin on my right shin. Just in time for shorts and skirts! Awesome!
Oh I could so use one of these. The last time I tried my bikini I took a layer of skin off. So started using a razer and keep getting burned.
I have tried all shavers and the one I feel most comfortable with is a Gillette hand held throw away saver. It lasts for a long time and the cut is smooth for all areas of the body.
Then I read your article on the Epilator and of course I am curious to see if it works!
Whenever I'm visiting my parents, I always go to the local day spa to get my upper lip zipped and my brows done. She always does a great job. Have had some hideous experiences in other places where I've lost skin.... OUCH!!!!
I wax my upper lip, shave my legs and underarms, pluck my brows and have gotten laser on my bikini. While the laser was quite painful and I had to go for about 7 sessions-- AND it is expensive-- in my opinion it is still totally worth it.. Especially if you have sensitive skin and can't shave that area without red bumps.. I would love to try an epilator!
Oh my...legs, underarms, bikini...and now I have a Toonie size patch under my chin....so unfair for all of us ladies. Why couldn't hairy be sexy????
I've even bought a bathing suit skirt for those winter swim days when its just too much to go in the pubic pool.
Honestly, we all have kids, work full time and are trying to exercise, keep up with friends and family.......daily de-hairing is time consuming. Finally Philips has invented something that is simple and hopefully affordable.
Can't wait to try it out!!!!!
Never tried an epilator before. Is that the male equivalent of an electrical shaver? I would like to experience an epilator shave underarms and bikini area. I want smooth and sensitive to skin results. A quick solution to avoid dateless nights.
Definitely wax strips and shaving. I'm not too creative and don't have the time to go to the spa and have professionals do it......I'm also kinda frugal that way! Whatever works though :O)
I use wax strips and have a love/hate relationship with them. Oh the pain! Do what we have to do though would love to try an epilator !
tweezers are a girls best friend...!!
I use baby oil when shaving my legs in the bath but it leaves a ring around the tub. Would like to try an epilator
I ( gasp) shave my eyebrows!
Having PCOS means being hairy Like man-hairy, in all the man-hairy areas. NOT sexy. I wish I didn't have to buy my own electric shaver and replace it so often because of all the hair in my beard/mustache area!? The only tip I have is to seek out a good reputable salon and get some of the cream that has the freezing in it! I have a GF that works for such a salon, and she gets me little buckets, so that every once in awhile (when I'm feeling brave) I'll grow out my beard and lather myself with this pain cream and go plucking like a mad hatter! I get a total sense of accomplishment and am relatively pain free through the whole thing! Can work on eyebrows (when plucking) and even upper lip areas (although I find that area can't be numbed sufficiently enough for my comfort levels, by my GF can do it!)
So --- get the cream!!
...and I'd love a Philips's Epilate SatinPerfect!! (Then I wouldn't have to hide my shaving habit from my 3.5 year old!)
Ladies--we really should quit obsessing! Slacks in the winter, schick intuition in the summer ---can't afford much more than that in time or money. Pluck the chin and mole hairs though.
I always save in the shower. I find the steam, warm water helps and using a razor with a good blade avoids getting nicked!
threading is my fave for small areas - waxing or shaving for all else. thanks!
I can't keep up! The more I shave, the faster the hair grows. Eeewww!
While I was getting my "Tom Selleck" waxed last week I asked her to do my chin too. Worked out great. Next time, I'm going for the whole face.
And here's a hint: if they use the purple wax for sensitive skin (the wax they usually use for the most sensitive parts of a bikini wax) ... it hurts less and uses less red!
I'm dying to get my hands on one of these! I'm only 23 but was blessed with having dark hair and fair skin..not so blessed with being so hairy! Between being put on birth control to manage 'issues' at a young age and genetics body hair is daily battle for me. I bleach my upper lip, shave my legs/ bikini area and tweeze the occasional chin hair. I'm getting married and am fretful of anything being missed and showing up in pictures! I think the Philips epilator would be a blessing!! And allow me to have one less thing to worry about leading up to my big day.
Wow - lots of comments. I would only say that with dark hair and fair skin, I'm constantly shaving and touching up - often right in the shower becuase then the hair seems softer to me.
wax... shave what ever it takes..not a fan of the bleaching
I use Veet on my legs and sometimes a touchup with a razor in the shower. My huge problem is facial hair - which I shave everyday ( I know, I know - but it's quick and painless)
Always get a professional to do your brows and always exfoliate!!
I use a hand razor and gel.
Just a disposible razor in the shower
i used nair on my upper lip, i prefer not to shave at all....but us ladies were born with hair and its gotta go.....
Use a ladies razor for the legs and tweezers for the brows. Would like to try the epilator though.
I have tried waxing before, ouch - now I use razor and tweezers. Would love to win :)
I love my new Shick razor.. the ones with the moisturizer bar all around them. THey are refillable too, which is better for the environment. I used to use electric razors, but it just was not as smooth and irritated my skin during dry seasons. I have heard so many horror stories about other methods I have no tried them yet! :P
My tip is to take Tylonal before you get waxed, doesn't hurt so much!
I need something gentle to remove the hairs on my chinny-chin-chin.
I have hairy arms and belly. I am looking for an easy solution.
I'd remove all my body hair (except for my eyebrows and head of course!) if I could. I somehow inherited my hairyness from my Grandpa who has super long arm and eyebrow hair. My brother has almost no body hair - no fair! So I get my eyebrows and upper lip waxed and threaded, my bikini sugared and still have to shave my legs and underarms every day! Would be nice to be able to afford laser hair removal or something easier!!!
Thanks for your visiting this www.glamour-watch.com/replica-pen online store.
This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like 'Mixview' that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you're listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of "neighbors" will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune "Social" is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.
Can't believe it.
