My 7.5 year-old daughter is obsessed with fantasy. She spends most of her time running around the house in wizard robes casting spells on various members of the family. When she chooses a movie it is either Harry Potter, Narnia, The Sorcerer's Apprentice or the like. When she's playing, she completely immerses herself in an imagination induced world of fantasy and magic.
It is an amazing thing to watch and listen to. The other day I was working and she was running around upstairs. I could hear her chatting away, casting spells, and exploring this imaginary world she had created. She was leaping around, casting spells while battling the enemy with her fellow wizards. It couldn't have been more real to her.
Imagination is such a gift and, lately, there have been many book series and movies and games that feed the fantastical. Often these are the foundation of my girl's play. So, when the folks at Disney offered us the opportunity to give away 4 copies of the Sorcerer's Apprentice for Nintendo DS I jumped at the chance.

For your chance to win one of four of The Sorcerer's Apprentice Nintendo DS games, comment below and share your stories about what your child or children love to play.
The contest will run until October 12th at 5pm EST.

I don't need to join this contest... I just wanted to say that your adorable girl is rocking that chain mail hood so hard, I might have to get one for my fashion round-out this fall. Plus, it will go nicely with my latest cape idea, planted by the lovely Kath over here yesterday: http://www.urbanmoms.ca/losing_it/2010/09/puttin-on-the-jilbab.html. That is all.
Oh yeah baby! Chain mail hood and a cape...totally channelling the inner Lion in Winter!
You would totally rock the mail hood too...especially with a cape.
Hmmm... the kids go through periods when they like to play certain things. Right now they are big into Lego. In the winter months they like hide and go seek after supper... when the house is really dark. During the holidays they like to have company over and play Family Feud as a large group. When they get together with their uncles they like to play dodgeball....fun for them, but more fun for the uncles.
My grandkids love to use their imaginations especially when they can get their grandparents involved. We play such wonderous games as Cave where the bears live under the covers and Mountaintop on top of the table where the princess lives away from the wicked witch while she waits for her prince to come. We also put on improv plays which we record to play back to any captive audience! Using our imaginations gives us lots of opportunities to laugh and enjoy each other.
my 2 girls are into puzzles, love lego and playing tea party. The Sorcerers Apprentice game would be for my niece who is a little older and would appreciate it much more.
my granddaughter loves to play dress up with all the different hats and shoes she kind of collects....she loves hats and shoes....the crazier the better.... and has a great imagination for playing all kinds of "lets pretend" games!
One plaything that seems to be a constant is a cardboard box. My children have spent ages decorating them for whatever the current adventure is. They have sailed around the world and fought pirates, flewwith dragons and raced across the Sahara desert. Now that I have grandchildren I find the same is true even though the stories change a bit. My grandson has rode the train with Harry Potter, travelled across the states with Bolt and won the Piston Cup with Lightning McQueen.
my son Loves mario baseball, he also likes the new prince of persia games
Imagination should be encouraged in all kids. Reading, playing and all other forms of games are great but get the kids to tell stories, put on their own plays, etc.
My daughter LOVES mario kart Wii. It's funny when she trys to play it on my DS and the character doesn't turn when she turns her hands. =)
My son is 21 and I am still helping him make dress up costumes for Comic Con's and I love doing it with him!
We've been really lucky lately at finding some cool board games at neighbourhood garage sales. This weekend we picked up a 1965 edition of a Parker Brothers game called Booby Trap. First the kids had to get over the name, but after that the game was a hoot. Lots of great mathematical and scientific thinking.
my boy loves to play with plastesine day and night!
my daughter is almost 3 months old and all she loves to play with is my hair:)
1 King size sheet and 1 queen size sheet to throw over 2 thrones a little princess a young prince a grandmother to crawl into their newly built castle, a few edible nibbles, a magical book and hours of story telling and imagination time.
My grandson's love to play video games....here's hoping I win one for them.
My daughter is Dr Amelia constantly and she is also a singer/dancer. My son however is the fantasy man. I watch him in the backyard and all he needs is a stick. Him and the dog are on the run from the 'bad guys' they have sword fights and hide from the villians. Both of my kids have wonderful imaginations which i'm so happy about.
All my family love to play games ! We'd be so happy to win !!!
I love the girl's costume ! She's so cute !
I have 4 grandchildren that would love this game !
My kid like to pretend they are their Mii's (from the Wii) They have created whole lives for them, from their towns complete with maps, to their favorite colors, what they wear, say, jobs and so on. They are extremely creative with it!
My 7 year old is into the lego series games. Batman, Indian Jones ect..., they're pretty cute and my 2 year old loves watching him.
My three kids are so different yet so much alike when it comes to playing any kind of game. My 7 year old daughter will be a horse one day; a dog the next and then be a princess in a virtual world the day after (thank you DS). My two boys, 4.5 and 3 love to build stuff, so Mega Blocks and lego is the way to go. Also, Thomas the train; Scooby Doo and Diego are favourites with them. But something that the three of them like to do all together (yes, and no fighting!) is the old fashioned sit-down-at-the-table-and-colour activity, along with cutting and pasting is a fan favourite as well! Peace and Quiet for at least 25 minutes!!
Right now my kids are huge into playing spies. This morning there was a sound dectection thing "hidden" in my closet. I had to pretend to reveal secrets while I got dressed. My 8 year old is in love with his DS. I have a few games for myself for it too. I think it's an amazing toy. Love it.
My sons loves so many games on his ds it is so hard to just one.
My son is still into playing with his cars, but my daughter is growing up so quickly. The time of dolls has started to fade away, and she is starting to get into games, and playing on the computer. But she still loves her My Little Ponies!
My boys just love to play hide-and-seek and chase each other around the house. They love playing on their Nintendo DS and Ipod Touch.
My son loves to play with his cars, trains, and board games. He loves playing games on the internet.. He enjoys building and creating new things with his Lego blocks. He has a great imagination and its fun to watch him enjoy building new things.
My 2 yr old lives in her princess costume Sequin skirt, wand and all. People always talk to us in public because she is dressed like this.
My six year old plays with the knights & castles in Lego then dresses up (yup, with a colander on his head and a superhero cape) and plays knights with his sister who is forever the damsel in distress.
My girl just got into the Wii and she loves it. RTime zips by and she does not realize that she has expended some energy in laying the Wii.
I just bough 3 nintendo Ds for christmas gift (one for each kid i have) but I have no more money for game... Would be fantastic to have at least one
My son is ten years old and loves to act and play role models such as the king of persia,Chaplin and imitate Al Pacino. He is extremely talented.
My son who is 11 loves to act and play his favorite role models too. He would love this game:)
My son and daughter love playing on their DS and they loved the Socerer's Aprentice movie. They would love this game!
My father usually isn't very high on video games, but since he bought Wii for me and my sister last year he seems to be more open to allow us to try out more games, given it gives us a chance to exercise and not filled with screen of violence!
One son and one daughter at this address and they both love their DS hand helds. When we are in the car driving for a long distance visit they like to play a game that they can do together or just by themselves.
Sometimes after a homework filled night or waiting in the dentist or doctors office, they will also use their DS to have a little downtime.
Wow can't believe how much your daughter looks like you!
My children love playing pretend, barbies, making forts with
couch cushions and blankets, dressing up and playing
make believe while eating snacks and watching their favorite
shows on tv that keeps them occupied and happy.
I could not stop my kids playing Call of Duty World at War
My daughter and friends are still very into dress up and dancing together to music. She is 7 years old, but i am so glad that she still likes to be a princess, wizard or ballerina at any moment.
I would stay the old fashioned hide and seek. Outside or inside the house is fun.
My son loves to play his Nintendo DSi and my daughter loves her laptop
We have a fantastic tickle trunk full of costumes. Whenever our kids have friends over they play dress up and make up these elaborate stories and fashion shows. I buy costumes from garage sales, thirft stores and church sales all year long, and as my kids grow I keep buying more so we have many costumes for many different ages. It is fun for all of us to use our imaginations and play. Thanks
My 2 sons have always loved make believe and are growing up to be very creative individuals
Nintendo is still a favourite! Is that considered a blast from the past, yet?!? :D
my 2 girls are into puzzles, love lego and playing tea party.
My kids have pretty much given up console video games in favour of playing free apps on our iPod Touch! Can't beat the price. They'd sure love a new game for their DS though!
My granddaughter is very good at using her imagination to think of things to play. But she also uses her laptop to play learning games.
My husband would love it if I won this.
My husband and I toured Carcassone which is a castle in France. We brought our grandson's a Medieval garb each and they just love them. Now all they need is to win a copy of the The Sorcerer's Apprentice Nintendo DS games to go with their new Medieval costumes ....
My 4 1/2 year old son loves to build AMAZING creations with Trio blocks, challenge himself with puzzles, put together large living room forts and pretend he's a pirate. He also loves dressing up like a Firefighter like his Daddy! He has an incredible imagination and each new day I look forward to seeing what he'll come up with next! So amusing and fascinating all at the same time! Jen... love your daughter's photo -- made me smile when I saw it!!!
my 5 year old son is addicted to pirates. he has been captain jack sparrow for the last 3 halloweens. loves anything to do with pirates. when the tall ship bounty was visiting our city this summer we waited in line almost 2 hrs to get on, part of the time in the rain. it was worth it to see his wonder of the boat
My son LOVES trains! He'll play for hours with his train set!
My kid loves to play with his DS on a rainy day; to the point we have to tell him to eat sometimes!
Gee i would love to play this game but I don't have a DS system so if I win I will give it to my friends daughter she has one and might enjoy the game and I certainly will take the opportunity while visiting to try it myself.
my sons love everything mario and still love pokeman and harry potter is a favorite, other than those types of games they love card games and being outside playing sports
Since our son is 16, we do not exactly 'play' anymore. However, we still do spend quality time together. Skyler likes to watch movies with us and we like to enjoy watching him play the guitar. He is a very talented musician. Since he is a teenager now, any time we can spend with him is very precious. Usually teenagers do not want to spend time with Mum and Dad because it is not cool. We are so thankful that Skyler still enjoys spending time with us and includes us in his very busy teenage life. We especially like it when, several nights a week, we are able to have dinner together. The TV is off and the phones are not answered. It is our time together and we value every second of it.
our daughter also has a wonderful imagination. From faeries to princesses to magickal things around her. It is wonderful to see and hear the giggles along the way . Days of exploring for treasures, and treasure maps, up north especially where the treasures can be merely a container full of acorns buried in the sandbox, or mushroom circles that lead to the faerie lands, and yes she has been a pirate with "YAR" and "Raise the sails" echoing through the house. As they grow I think we really need to encourage them to use their imaginations....anything is possible something as adults we forget...*winks*
my nephew love to play with his educational laptop
Dress-up with any type of play clothes and such are definitely a big thing, especially being a mom or teacher!!
Lots of crafts, playing outdoors, and time with friends are a big plus!!!!
We play imagination games when we are at the park with our grandaughter and she really makes us get in to our roles whether taking tickets for a train or buying groceries at the make believe store. It is a lot of fun.
Halo is a favorite for my son...
My 4 year old loves dress up and some lip gloss and nail polish.
Fun to read what others are posting! Thanks :)
kids are fickle and every day is something new. But they always seem to fall back on Lego, since they can make anything and everything from it
My kids love their nintendo ds. My son loves the Mario games and my daughter loves Hannah Montana
My niece and nephew love playing anywhere...just running around my house when they come to visit entertains them! They love going to the park. My niece loves Barbie and my nephew loves cars.

Hello
I feel kids can be so creative given costumes they can have great fun! Love the articles.
Your daughter looks so cute in her chain mail :D
My little girl's favourite play is anything involving her puppy, Spot. She likes to sing to her, dance with her, have tea parties with her, read books to her, and take her everywhere she goes, even to the potty. :) She loves games like hide-and-seek and having "play picnics" with her plastic food toys.
The kidlettes love playing with bugs and loves doing everything and anything fun at any point.
My grandson would absolutely love for me to win this!!
A couple of months ago he took his DS to school and had it in the playground where he forgot it. We rushed back to the school to get it but it was already gone. He cried and cried because his DS was gone and so were all 20 of his games that were in his DS case.
I felt SO BAD! I don't have the money to buy him a new one, but maybe I could win one for him. Could I? We'll see.
I would love to win this game to give to a special child for Christmas as a gift. thank you for this opportunity to enter this contest and hope to win it. DS is a new way of life and education for our generation.
Looks like a fun game
My son is a huge Lego fan and loves to play with anything that involved building. He also loves video games.
My special little guy birthday is coming up and I would love to win this game
A shame that someone in the industry cannot have a private moment in their own back yard when someone next door feels they must have an autograph. If you feel you need an autograph, write their agent or studio, but leave them alone on their own down time. You aren't going to tell me that if you were important enough that people approached you on a daily basis & wanted your autograph, that you wouldn't get tired of it. Get off your high horse and quit putting people down. Does that make you feel better? They have the right to their private time.
They definitely like their DS especially logic and puzzle type games.
My 10 year old son has been really into playing with Marvel Universe figures, for about a year now. He reads a lot of Marvel comics, and then he likes to act out the adventures with his toys.
I love it when the kids can get lost in their imaginations! What a marvelous game.
For my daughters it's dress up that they love. Over the years we have been building up a dress up trunk -- they never get tired of it. When nieces and nephews come over to visit they also love playing dress up:) Thanks for the great giveaway.
I love that your daughter has a passion. My 8 year old is consumed with cooking/baking she makes little cakes decorates them with fondant, plays Nintendo DS game cooking with mama, or top chef on the wii, apparently she is going to be a chef when she older.
My kids favorite is to tip the couches on their sides (This is NOT an every day occurence! ), add blankets and pretend they are various animals living in their caves :)
My son loves to play games, and listen to music and dance around the house
My daughter loves to play naruto on the ds
My daughter is too young for these games but her mommy and daddy are the perfect age. My little girl loves to build structures out of blocks. She has long episodes of dramatic play using toy animals and people with the block structures.
My bro told me about this site just today. Great blog you've got!
My loves playing on his DS, and has a wonderful imagination too. He is also looking forward to playing Angry Birds on his upcoming iPod Touch.
Construction blocks all the way for my 2 sons. I'm lucky, they really enjoy board games as well, so we get to play lots as a family. And then, they each have their "thing"; the oldest is into mythical times, reading about dragons, and drawing creatures... while the youngest is all about basketball, soccer and hockey.
By the way: If I were to win the DS game, my 11 year-old son would have to teach his old mom some gaming, 'cause there is no way I'm by-passing the opportunity to play with Nicholas Cage...
My boy loves this game and if we won it, he would be so happy, he loves to play with he legos and stuff but he still loves playing video games, at least when he is home he is safe and i don't have to worry about him as much, this is a great game and an awesome contest
My daughter isn't a kid anymore, but she would still have fun with this game for her Nintendo DS. I'm sure it would rank right up there with Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter games.
They like to play tag.
My kids are 18, 14 and 5 and believe it or not they will get down on the ground an play Beyblade metal Fusion. I do have to admit that on the way to work I find myself singing the catchy tune. LOL
My daughter loves blocks ,and my son loves to make obstacle courses and do them with his friends.
My children love playing anything together but lately it has been 'concoctions' where they find things round the house (dish soap, vinegar, water, food colouring etc) and see what happens. Sometimes they are surprised with what they get!
I love playing board games with my son,and his father loves to play video games with him!! Great giveaway!
My son loves the WII games. Really any type of video games will do.
My daughter was the real "dress up" for play kind of girl. Her and her best friend would be off for hours and then pop out of her room wearing the craziest outfits and craziest hair.
Now that she is a teenager...and dressing up for real...
Is is nice to see my 9 year old using his imagination to slay dragons and fight battles!...refreshing!
My nephews are the gamers. This would be a perfect addiction to their games.
My daughter used to love playing Barbies & dress up with her friends.
My daughter is a new gamer and would love this game!
I am still holding a bullish stock portfolio altogether. It's just a matter of time until it all starts swinging around. Remember whenever a bull market starts, we don't even realize it before it's already six months old.
My kids love to play Wii games, board games and a lot of lego with their friends.
My son loves his DS, the wii and his legos. Asking for legos and a DS game for Christmas.
I got to see this movie at its premier showing in Montreal during the Fantasia Film festival. This will be an added bonus to enjoy.
my daughter likes to play with all sorts of things. she loves barbie's and crafts. She's getting more into the ds now.
My granddaughter loves to dress up in her Hannah Montana outfit complete with wig and a play guitar and puts on her CD and she is HM
My guys are still really young but they are just starting to get into pretend play. I have a love of dragons and one of our costumes this year is going to be a dragon. I hope they love the mystical world as much as I did. It is open to so much imagination potential
dress up is fairies and princesses in our house
My children love to play hockey and xbox!
When they are not playing sports, my children still love to play with lego
We love to play simple games of story telling, hide and seek and building forts of blocks and knocking them down. Dress up and playing at realistic situations are also lots of fun.
Wii is popular in my house
Creating fishing "flies" and creating different set ups for fishing is what keeps my kids busy when they aren't out on the water trying to catch fish.
Batman...anything playing a video game or just thinking he is batman
My son loves to play his games, especially fantasy games like Harry Potter. He would go nuts if I won this game for him! Thanks for the chance!
He loves to play superheros- especially Superman
My 6 year old son loves Clone Wars anything right now, but I'm sure that he'd love this game as well, since he has been playing with his DS like crazy lately!
I located your site when searching for some thing distinct on Bing or google about topics related to movies, although I got the opportunity to read this posting and I found it really useful certainly.
You are such an amazing writer. Wishing you a strength and peace that surpasses all understanding as you continue to walk the high road … you are amazing, and I honor you for being YOU! You represent grace and dignity … with a smile that melts anyone blessed to be on the receiving end of it. God Bless you Always, Carrie!!!!
Hmmm interesting comment . This is a good site, but I would like to get some extra details on this. Is anyone know of any other site which covers with this subject"
My first Comicon is coming up soon in Arizona. I've waited months for this! I'm taking my kids for their first time. This is going to be amazing!!!
I just have got Call of Duty Black Ops although i am stunned at the possibility that almost everybody has acquired this amazing video game.i've noticed that in accordance with early VGChartz estimations, Call of Duty: Black Ops has become the fastest-selling video game for all time with 7 million units bought at the first day following more than 4.5 million preorders as being reported before in the few days. In the event the seven million for Black Ops holds true, it would make the kick off close to 10% bigger than Modern Warfare 2 plus the greatest ever which happens to begenuinely extraordinary.
i'd like a great deal more supporters!.!
You may think it sounds big and clever, but more often than not a chat up line is likely to leave that person feeling small. Stuff like 'Do you sleep on your stomach? If not, can I?" may be funny-ish on paper, but in the real world it's liable to earn you a short response like 'tosser' and possibly a drink in the face. In the end, a chat up line doesn't reflect your personality or show you're genuinely interested in that person. If anything, it suggests you're in love with yourself and your own dull wit.
