Mom's The Word

Surprise!

My baby sister turns 40 in March this year. WHAT?! Crazy. How did this happen? But more importantly, what am I going to do about it? Well, that's for me to know and you (and her) to find out.

I will give you a little insight: I am going to surprise her - take her somewhere fabulous to relax and let loose. All "Girlfriend Getaway" style. That's what us 40 year-olds do, you know. My sister has two young kids (2 and nearly 4) and works as (an angel) a clinical nurse specialist helping pancreatic cancer patients. This woman needs a break. And we need some sister time.

So, here's my plan:

- I am booking a trip.
- I am not telling her where we are going until we get to the airport (that is assuming everyone else can keep their mouths shut!)
- We are going to have a blast!

Pretty simple but I am seriously excited. I can barely contain myself and may have to avoid seeing her for the next few months so I don't reveal the surprise.

Have you ever surprised anyone with something like this? How did it go? Any advice?

What a lovely idea, for a no-doubt lovely sister - so great, Jen! (You do that with your hands too...) :)

Do I? My sisters are my best buds. I am lucky to have them and thrilled to do this!

I love surprises but can't keep them. Secrets I can keep, surprises not so well.
This is the best idea. Have so much fun!

did the whole "surprise we're going to disneyworld tomorrow" thing...unfortunately my oldest was in the throes of some serious strep throat and my youngest was happy but, taking her cue from her big sister, sort of shrugged it off.

me: "we're going to have dinner with gramma and grampa on saturday night"
C: "okay"
me: "we're going to have dinner in cinderella's castle in disneyworld!"
C: "oh, okay"

if she wasn't so sick the anti-excitement would have been hysterical! very impressed with my secretive skills after she got better and was over the moon to be there. yay penicillin!

it's so hard keeping it a secret! you just say something that you think is unrelated and realized mid-sentence it's not! like...i need to get you a new bathing suit soon (in march) ummm...just because...

have fun!

Ummmm, more information please!!! You can't talk about it and not tell me anything! Love ya xoxoxox

So fun!! I did that for my husband last year with a trip to Vegas. I told him where we were going before we left for the airport but didn't tell him our best friends were going to meet us there. They knocked on our hotel room door the next morning pretending to be "room service". It was a lot of fun, but best to lower expectations on the reaction. I had built it up so much in my mind and forgot that he wasn't much of a morning person, so telling him so early in the morning didn't give me the joy I expected. Girls are way better at this stuff though... :)

Hi Jen!
What a great sister you are...my 3 sisters are my best friends too.
One of my sister's is getting divorced after a 20 year marriage - so I'd like to surprise her too!
I know you are an avid traveller (and I'm not) so please send me some ideas for a getaway.
Cheers!
