Mom's The Word

What's Old is New and Still Tons of Fun
When I was a kid we didn't have the massive selection of toys available today. My sisters and I had a giant tub of Barbies and Barbie clothes. We made our own Barbie house out of book shelves, boxes, and tissues. We played boardgames like Monopoly and Yahtzee and coloured in our colouring books. One toy we did have that I adored was Lite Brite. Remember this? Well now there is a new and improved version with four sides on which to create. But the premise is still the same, put the coloured pegs in the appropriate holes, turn off... More »

Subject: Soft Porn Fix Needed
Don't get the wrong idea, I don't watch porn nor do I distribute or solicit it. This is actually related to my post from yesterday. I had been talking to a friend of mine about how The Tudors was a little naughty and soft pornish. And we agreed that everyone needs a little dirty now and then. So my pal, on an outing to the bookstore, decided to pick up a copy of the next Diana Gabaldon book in the Outlander series to give herself a little dirty fix. I knew this, really, but still, for some reason I guess I hadn't really processed it. It's funny because I spent my early adulthood and marriage planning to "have a family" but I didn't really think much past the baby part. I just saw myself as a mom with a baby. Maybe a toddler but not Big Kids. I guess it was because I would seem old then or it just seemed... More »

2009, already I dislike you.
This year there was no celebrating for me at the dawn of 2009. I am not interested in what this year has to offer. I want time to stop. I want to stay right where I was over the last month. Safe with my family together. Happy. Healthy. But, as every Trekky knows, resistance is futile. So 2009 pulled me in kicking and screaming. Every year I have seen the birth of a new year as a beginning - a clean slate. I look forward to the journey ahead and the changes and challenges this new year has to offer.... More »
