I did not plan to write any more about this issue here and then I saw this video by a parent council chair who has done hours of research and analysis. I am putting this out as a parent, not a teacher. I know that many parents believe the government over the teachers but here is a parent laying it out. I appreciate you sharing this video. The issue of Seniority hiring is eye opening, and quite scary, however all this does is give me an even bigger distaste for unions. I support teachers, but I don't believe they should be unionized and in my opinion compensation should be merit based as is in the private sector.
I think if that were the case, then we would have more teachers applying to teachers college because they really enjoy teaching (and are really good at it, such as yourself), rather than A LOT of individuals who apply because they know they will end up with a fairly cushy job with summers off.
