Getting out of an Exercise Rut!
As I mentioned before, I've been going through a bit of slump in regard to my fitness and nutrition. Postpartum, with three little ones under the age of 5, I've been zapped physically, and more so mentally - lacking the motivation to stay on track with my health goals.
So, I decided to stop thinking about it until I felt ready. A few weeks ago, I felt this incredible urge to exercise (go figure?? Even as I write those words, they seem BIZARRE and not related to me?!) so I went to the gym. It felt good and I've been going now twice a week when my kids are at school. There's some mental block I've got with the treadmill in the basement. It's sitting there, beautiful and shiny in its largely unused glory - and yet, it's not happening for me. I think it's a mental association I have with my home - right now, home is chaos, insanity, noise, babies. Exercise is about me, tranquility, the zone, focus. Home and fitness are - at this moment - counterintuitive.
I was walking in my neighbourhood (the Danforth in Toronto FYI) and I happened to pass by this place, Energia Athletics, which I'm sure has been there for ages, but I've been to preoccupied to notice.
So, I walked in and signed up for a SPINNING CLASS.....which I've never done before and spinning has always terrified me. I don't know from where this sudden exercise bravado arose, but there it was. Now, I've been spinning on Saturday mornings for the past three weeks and I love it. The music, the sweat, the energy, the motivating instructor and the incredible way I feel afterwards has me totally addicted. Who knew? It feels great to be doing something different, in an environment that is new and inspiring. I like the fact that I don't have to sign up for some heavy membership that will weigh down my credit card and conscience. I just pay for the classes I attend and that's it. Energia also offers yoga and running clinics and the ambience is very zen and relaxed.
As for the eating, that's been a bigger challenge. The Baby still feeds 5-6 times a day even though she's started solids, and I still have that overwhelming hunger when I'm nursing. I figure, one hurdle at a time.

Kudos to you for getting motivated! I could not have gotten off my duff while nursing. It was my excuse all year long!
Harness that energy and drive you have now and keep it up!

I'm really impressed - there was no way I had the energy or motivation to excercise when I was nursing either of my kids. Good for you!!!!!

I love spinning. It's a great workout and you don't need to know how to dance to do it! I love that you don't have to pay for a membership. I could go to gym like that.
