The Balancing Act

Winter chic

I was at Yonge and Eglinton (a trendy, urban 'hood in Toronto that is also know as "Young and Eligible" because of its population of single hipsters) today for a haircut.  All around  me were people dressed in their most "winter chic", managing to be stay both warm and stylish.  The look of choice, I gathered, was a long, fitted parka (how do you people walk, drive or bend in those things?) and beige UGG boots over skinny pants.  Hoods up, large sunglasses, glossed lips and you've got it - holiday urban chic in the big city.

I'm quite pleased with my winter gear this year. A friend introduced me to a great line of clothing from the U.S. that's now available at Sears, Land's  End. They've got a varied collection of winter coats and jackets; unlike a lot of stores right now, they have styles for all ages and body types.

I went with this one, the Delancey Parka, in a chocolate brown:

This is now my third winter with the same winter boots and they have held up beautifully.  I bought my La Canadienne boots a couple of years ago when I read an ad in the NY Times that proclaimed them to be "the warmest boots" ever.  The ad was not misrepresentative - they are indeed the best boots ever. They are so warm (as is the jacket - I wear a T-shirt underneath and am so still so cosy when I go outside) and look great to boot (I couldn't resist!).

Where did you find those boots! Approximately how much were they?

It's so worth the investment to find a truly warm coat and pair of boots. I may just invest in a pair of La Canadiennes this winter. My current boots are functional, but quite ugly.

Those boots are GORGEOUS. I bought myself (from Sears.) new winter boots and they're very cute and warm BUT they weight five MILLION pounds. And I can't return them! :(

Great look! Jacket and boots - totally stylish and practical!

Where did you get those boots and what is the price range?

I love the boots! Where did you get them?

i too love these boots - they make every winter day more manageable and more stylish. i also love that they make me 2.5 inches taller. i got them at capezio on sale for $225 - boxing week sale.

I love the coat. Great color.
