The Balancing Act

My Boy turns Six

DSC02694.JPGMy Boy recently turned six.  This picture is from his birthday party - he's the one in stripes.  For some reason, to me, 6 has always seemed like a milestone - the end of "babyness", the beginning of boyhood.  As he blew out those candles, I was a little wistful. Would he still be my baby?  He's definitely the cuddliest of my children - would that change?

Here's the reality of six-ness:  He's independent, sensitive, loves hockey, Bakugan, music (Hedley and Nickelback are his favourite bands), and his family.  Much to my happiness, he still loves to cuddle, and is very much still my baby.  He's a morning person like my husband, and has his own morning ritual.  He rises at 6am and gets DSC02755.JPGa yogurt for himself.  Then, he turns on the hockey highlights on mute, turns on his music and sets out his toys - either his miniature hockey players or Bakugan toys.  That's his time to do his own thing before the family room gets rocked by his sisters.

We started the tradition last year of giving the Boy a CD for his birthday.  I blogged his playlist from his 5th birthday in last year's post.  Here's the playlist from this year:

Old School - Hedley

So What - Pink

If Today Was Your Last Day - Nickelback

Gotta Be Somebody - Nickelback

Let it Rock - Kevin Rudolf and Lil Wayne

Right Round (feat. Ke$ha) / Flo Rida

Bad Day - Daniel Powter

People are People - Depeche Mode

The Shock of the Lightning - Oasis

The Traveling Song - will.i.am (Madagascar 2)

Alex on the Spot - Hans Zimmer (Madagascar 2)

Dangerous (feat. Akon) / Kardinal Offishall

Viva La Vida - Coldplay

My Life Would Suck Without You - Kelly Clarkson

Six IS a milestone! Happy Birthday big guy.

He has a pretty decent playlist! My almost 6-year-old isn't quite so sophisticated in his musical selections. Happy birthday to your big boy! He still looks pretty tiny in all that hockey gear...

Happy Birthday to the big six year old! I love that you incorporate music into the annual birthday tradition. Quite the playlist!

Nice! Wish My son still cuddled! At 15 I have to work to get a hug from him every day. I do miss snuggling with books before bed.
