The Balancing Act

IIFA 2011: Stars, Fashion, Mobs and More!

Last Saturday night, I attended the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards!  I was blown away by the enthusiasm with which Toronto embraced India's glittering stars, and by the grand scale of the event.

The show was long and could have used some serious editing. That being said, there was an electricity in the air that kept me awake till 2am, and some great moments that made it all worth it!

For me, it's all about the glamour, the fashion and the music.  IIFA did not disappoint:

There were sparkling starlets:

There was fashion, and more fashion! Some actors chose Indian designers while others went for non-Indian couture:

Winner of Best Actress Award, Anushka Sharma, wearing Indian superstar designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee.

Priyanka Chopra wore five different outfits by Manish Malhotra in her melodic tribute to singer, Asha Bhosle.

There were oodles of glamorous couples. Here are couple of my faves:

Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jessia (supermodels turned actors)

Malaika Arora Khan and Arbaaz Khan (producer of Dabaang, a big winner at IIFA 2011)

There was the King of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan!

His presence at IIFA was a highlight for me. Even with a fractured knee, he wowed the crowd with his charm and charisma.  Early on in the show, a crazed fan got on stage and clutched on to Khan's legs.  It was shocking given the insane amount of security.

A new star emerged at IIFA 2011, Dalton McGuinty.  I've seen McGuinty speak countless times on the news, but never with the eloquence that he displayed at IIFA.  Seems like the sparkle of Indian cinema rubbed off on our Premier - so much so that the media claims it might be the key to his next campaign.
