Sunday night is the Oscars. It's my Super Bowl. I watch every year - most years I see all the movies. But things have changed since the boy arrived. Now....well let's just say - I invited my extended family over for a skating party/dinner on Sunday. WHAT THE WHAT? Sorry people but the red carpet coverage will trump Treehouse. In honour of the Oscars - we're going to revisit some of the best speeches ever over the course of this week. (Well my favourite anyway). Today - Cuba Gooding Jr. for Best Supporting Actor in Jerry Maguire. He was amazing in... More »

I've been out of town, so I'm just catching up on the news. When I read that "Wheels" from Degrassi had died, it was sort of a nonplussed disbelief. And it immediately brought me back to the Bayshore Shopping Centre in Ottawa. Somewhere around 1990 they were doing a mall tour with the "stars" of Degrassi High, in this case "Wheels" and "Liz" (Neil Hope and Cathy Keenan). A group of girlfriends and I went. We never liked Wheels, I mean, let's face it, he was a terrible actor, but it was something to do. Plus, we'd been watching the... More »
John Paul Ruttan, the 10 year old Toronto born actor is like any other kid his age...except he's just walked the red carpet with Reese Witherspoon, Tom Hardy, and Chris Pine for his supporting role in the new feature film THIS MEANS WAR (opens nationwide on Friday, February 17). UrbanMoms was THRILLED to grab a moment with John Paul's mom, Kathy about what life is like. UrbanMoms: You've just walked the red carpet with your son for the premiere, what was going through your mind? Kathy: I was thinking how lucky he is at this young age to have an opportunity like... My kids were getting ready for bed on Sunday night, just as the Grammy's were starting, but I promised Oliver I'd tape them for him, and we could watch the next day. Indeed, I did record it, and we've been watching (and re-watching) a lot of the performances together ever since.I have to say, Bruno Mars was excellent. That charming boy with the beautiful pearly whites sang his heart out while being backed by a gaggle of his handsome cronies in golden jackets with matching tuxedo pants all getting their James Brown on? Wicked. Ava Scarlett said she liked his... More »
Well, last night was the 54th Annual Grammy Awards and to be blunt and well...morbid...they're lucky that certain people died right before the show and in the year leading up to it.Obviously the not so surprising death of Whitney Houston on the eve of the Grammy Awards lent a sadness over the show but honestly, this was hands down the worst Grammy's in years. Dullsville on a performance and fashion sense. The performance highlights for me were the ones in honour of Etta James, Don Cornelius and of course Whitney. There were some really odd 'eff you' performances. Taylor Swift did... More »
