As promised, during the month of October, if you send me your favourite "Pink" products, I'll share them with all urbanmoms. Donna from Toronto sent me information on a few Pampered Chef products that I'd love to use. How about this pink bar board and knife for $7.00? Or these Simple Addition Squares (great for serving squares). The set of two is $29.00. Finally, this pink Mini Measure-All cup is just $6.25 and would brighten up any recipe! Check out Pampered Chef for ordering information, and even more pink products!... More »
Trend Watch
Eating healthier has been a long-time trend for Canadians, but lowering sodium is particularly important for we moms. Women are at risk for heart disease and heart attacks, just like men. In fact, heart disease is the leading cause of death among women over 65, and North American women are 4 to 6 times more likely to die of heart disease than of breast cancer. Limiting dietary sodium intake helps in the prevention of high blood pressure, which in turn substantially decreases the risk of developing heart disease or stroke, so it only makes sense that we all try... Some trends are good (think boomerang lunches at our kids' schools). Some trends are pure evil (think leggings on anyone older than six). My favourite type of trend is one that benefits the consumer and also benefits a good cause. This is a great month for such trends. It's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and marketers are pulling out all stops to not only tug at our proverbial heartstrings, but also open our wallets. The Pink Ribbon has become an international symbol of hope and awareness in the fight against breast cancer. Certain manufacturers, organizations and corporations have joined in... More »
With the new release of Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (a movie I'm dying to see), I started thinking about the playlists of my life. Growing up, we all made mixed tapes for one another, and a mixed tape from a boy was serious business. I can remember analyzing the song choices in an attempt to discover just how he felt, not only about me, but about life! Boys could be dumped for sins like including Tears for Fears on a mixed tape. Moving on through (and past) university came the mixed cds...great for road trips to and from school,... More »
