a.k.a. To the Pointe

a.k.a. Barre None

There is no end to the ballet-inspired puns, and thanks to Black Swan, ballet is the hottest trend of the season.

There are so many ways to work this trend into your early Spring wardrobe. Start with an easy ballet bun pulling everything back and off your neck, secured with a tidy black headband. These lululemon slipless headbands are lined with a silicone grip and are absolute magic at keeping all stray hairs in place. At only $12, I think they're an absolute steal.

If you're considering a new piece for your wardrobe, might I suggest this adorable ballet-wrap sweater from The Gap? It's on sale right now for $45.99 and I love the pop of colour from the tangerine self-tie belt. I have a similar sweater from a few seasons back and every time I put it on, I'm transported to the church basement where Miss Bedard taught me ballet for ten years. My posture immediately improves.

I've also been inspired by the ballet trend with my footwear choice. Ballet flats seem an obvious choice, and though you could go with a standard black or a pale pink, I love the juxtaposition of the military camo with the feminine bow on this pair from Old Navy. They're just $19.95 and available in stores and online. I'm wearing mine now with skinny jeans, and think they'll be great with capris and dresses when the warmer weather comes.

In the interest of full disclosure, Trend Watch is written by me; all opinions are my own. It is not sponsored. Sometimes I am given free products to review and sometimes I purchase the products all on my own. This is one of those examples where I sought out and purchased the products all on my own.

omg you were in my ballet school - not kidding. Loved Miss Bedard.

What a small world! Did you take classes at Easminster United Church? Remember Joe the pianist?

I love the whole ballet thing and I am afraid I have a skirt that is ballet- esque and I love it. Moderation, jen, is not my strong suit!

Nancy, I love the idea of you in a tutu, but I still maintain that you should stay clear of the leotard and lace up shoes to complete the outfit!

That ballet dress is very cute and I just love it because it is in pink!

Years of ballet too... decided I wold not be a ballerina for my, like, job, so after one year of pointes, I was done. (Ouch!!)

But I do so love all things ballet... in moderation, of course. I have a brown organza tutu that is to die for around the holidays. Of course, I did NOTHING FUN this holiday (again) due to the family Flu-fest... but I digress. I'll wear it out for drinks the next time the foxes are game, I reckon... no bun for me though - I have no hair. (Poo.)

Love the ballet wrap sweater....must get one. I wish I had a tutu! My girls also wish they had a tutu.

my girls will tell you that ballet was in way before Black Swan. hahaha

I love that Gap sweater. I think it might need to become part of the Urban Closet!
