Like most UrbanMoms, mornings are a crazy blur in my little part of the world. I find myself in a whirl of packing lunches, signing agendas, finding library books, checking homework, and by the time I get the kids out the door and stumble out myself, it's not unusual for me to realize that I haven't eaten anything for breakfast. Maybe I've eaten a crust of toast that someone rejected, but one of the 7-10 servings of fruit and vegetables recommended for me each day? Unlikely.
This week Tim Hortons has introduced a convenient way of adding more fruit to our diets with their new Real Fruit Smoothies. They come in two flavours, Strawberry Banana, and the Mixed Berry that I tested. They're fat-free, made with real fruit and do not contain artificial colours or flavours. I prefer a creamier smoothie, so I added low-fat yogurt to mine.
The smoothies are delicious and filling, but at just 10 oz, they're not too big for our kids, either. They're another entry into Tim Hortons' expansion of healthier snack options, and I'll be back for more on another crazy, chaotic morning.
My only complaint? No roll up the rim on these cups!
Real Fruit Smoothies are now available at Tim Hortons locations across Canada for $1.99, and an additional $0.70 for yogurt.
In the interest of full disclosure, Trend Watch is written by me; all opinions are my own. It is not sponsored. Sometimes I am given free products to review and sometimes I purchase the products all on my own. Tim Hortons gave me a free sample of this product, but I was not compensated for my review.

These are definitely on my list! I LOVE a fruit smoothie at breakfast but don't always have the time. Now I can stop at Timmy's.
yummm! and the price is good too!
I linked this to my facebook page and the first question one of my friends asked was how many calories.
I checked it out and there are 130 calories in a 10oz withOUT yogurt and 160 with yogurt.
fruit smoothie for breakfast, that's a new one ;) love the idea for sure. Though I have switch to an all organic diet lately, so I'd like to see a fully organic version of this if possible. Most of the chains use the cheapest ingredients, so a quality check would also be on top of my list. I've been spending about 5min in the morning making my own fresh juice, which has done wonders for me:
2 Green Apples
8 Carrots
3-4 Broccoli Tops
3-4 Cauliflower tops

no offence bonnie but I think I would barf? Broccoli before noon? Green smoothies?
I need the pink ones. You will live longer than me for sure!
Thanks for the tip Jen. I always think I have served my people well- but what the heck did I eat?
I snarfed water out my nose!
Nancy - you're a hoot!
@Nancy, no offense taken :), but think about this: Taste over life. I've thought about this long and hard. I have to keep myself in shape and healthy because in the end my kids and family need me. I really have no choice but to go at it a 110% and work on my health, even having to drink Broccoli in the morning. I was doing the juice above with My LifeForce Balance Greens and not only did I lose a ton of weight, all my bloodwork came back GREAT, cholesterol dropped/liver values normal and life improved. :)
@Bonnie. Admirable for sure but just to clarify I don't eat chips for breakkies, work out, am healthy but love good food that tastes good and looks nice. I choked back green things for breakfast during a cleanse and honestly thought I met God but i also ran back to a nice latte and pink smoothie after the week with new found love and appreciation. I am always open to new stuff but resist things that lengthen life by making it UNBEARABLE....
@Nancy, how about you try this version of the juice, you'll actually like the taste:
5 Green Apples
2 Red Apples
2 Bananas
1 Orange
8 Carrots
3-4 Broccoli Tops
3-4 Cauliflower tops
Handful of Cranberries
This should lighten up the taste but still get the potent and powerful anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals. ;)
Fyi, this is the mix I drink during my de-toxes which I do once a month:
2 Green Apples
8 Carrots
2 Bananas
1/4 -1/2 Green Cabbage
1-2 Cloves of Garlic
Handful of Cranberries
3-4 Kale Leaves
1/2 inch slice of Ginger Root
3-4 Broccoli Tops
3-4 Cauliflower tops
Thanks for this. I will try the first one but fear the second one- garlic smothie not so good for dating.
I need to get me one of those.
Hey I've eaten chips for breakfast! LOL, I'm gonna make them put my next Smoothie in a roll up cup.
I think that this is great considering that there are few fast food chains that offer healthy options...HOWEVER, have you also seen the new ice cream stations that they have at a few of the stores...seriously???? So now on top of the timbits that your kids want they'll now ask for some yummy cookie dough ice cream too. Where does it end? Very dissapointed in Tim's!
Excellent site you have here but I was wondering if you knew of any community forums that cover the same topics talked about in this article? I'd really like to be a part of community where I can get feed-back from other knowledgeable individuals that share the same interest. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks!
