I am a huge Old Navy fan. I love the way they'll recognize the hottest trends, and adapt them in a practical way that fits into my wardrobe and my budget. I've bought cardigans, jeans, bathing suits, shoes, bags, dresses and scarves during quick trips into the store that freshen my closet with the latest trends.
One of the things I haven't always loved about Old Navy is the enormity of the stores. So much stuff all jammed together in dimly lit industrial spaces can feel a little overwhelming, and the actual shopping experience was never a relaxed one.
That's changing at stores across the country, though. One by one the stores are being redesigned and renovated with moms and kids in mind to offer a brand new shopping experience that's "easy, friendly and fun." So far, 260 stores have been redesigned, and there will be more than 360 of The New Old Navy stores across North America by the end of the year.
I recently visited one of the redesigned stores and appreciated some of the great new features like:
Brighter lighting and improved signage.
Bags to help as you shop and fast lane check outs when you're done.
A new race track layout that helps guide customers in a simple way.
Stroller-friendly aisles.
Quick-change pods to make it easier to try on a single item quickly.
Large, family sized changerooms with helpful signage to keep you organized.
I spent well over an hour in the store, and never felt overwhelmed. Once again I picked up a bagful of pieces that will inject an instant update into my Spring wardrobe, and while the shopping experience was hardly relaxing (I was with my five year old daughter, and had my husband pacing outside the store), the redesigned Old Navy had a great vibe and was much more enjoyable to shop.
Now Old Navy wants to give you a chance to check out their stores and update your wardrobe. Tell me your best tip for making a shopping trip enjoyable, and you'll be entered to win a $250 Old Navy gift card.
The contest ends on May 9, 2011.

Going to the store with my husband or a friend makes shopping enjoyable for me.
i wish it were otherwise but i need to go alone to make it enjoyable. maybe if only my husband came but there's too much else going on if the kids are with me.
Old Navy has never been a problem for me to take the kids to. It's one of the only stores that they don't mind me taking my time in because there's always colourful balls or toys that they can pick up and play with while we shop - especially near the registers. That said, anything that makes it easier to get out and about with the little ones is a great thing. I love the quick-change pods. I dread going through the whole change room fiasco when I just want to get a quick idea about a certain item. At least a mirror in every section would be a big help as well... sometimes all it takes is holding something up to myself and I know if it's worth the trouble or not.
For me to have an enjoyable shopping trip, I need to be well-rested and I need to do it on my own!
I need to shop with my mom and without my kids to have an enjoyable shopping trip!
My best tip is to wear comfortable clothes, especially shoes. If it is Boxing Day, make sure you wear cleats LOL
I just try to really keep an open mind. I know what 'works' for me but I think trying on clothes outside my comfort zone has really helped me find some great pieces. I can also get into and out of clothes like a tornado so I can try on alot!!!! I like stores that allow you to bring in a heap instead of 6 items. I like to mix and match them in the change room to check out the versitility of pieces.
Be rested and go with a friend. Never shop when you are mentally or physically tired. I think that is when we make impulse buys!
wear comfortable shoes and go with someone who will give you an honest opinion on how good or bad the clothes look on you
I enjoy any shopping trip! But, my shopping tip would be, wear clothes and shoes that are comfortable and easy to get on and off, so you can try things on. I also find shopping by myself is sometimes easier because I can just focus on me and not have to worry if the people I am with are getting tired or not getting what they need to get done.
Do you mean besides leaving the kids at home? For clothes shopping I try to separate the kids, my son is in part-time daycare so I can pick him up from school while my daughter is still at hers (elementary) and we can take the time to pick out his clothes without worrying she'll run off to try on every pair of shoes in the store. My son is also free to go into my husband's office and if he does that I can take my daughter. Divide and conquer, right?
I do my best clothes shopping alone- I don't have to hurry or go to stores that don't really interest me! Comfy clothing that I can get in and out of easily is also a must- trying on outfits must be easy!
My best tip for making a shopping trip enjoyable is to leave all minors at home (not alone, of course!) Heh.
For me, if I am shopping for clothes for myself, it's going with a girlfriend and then stopping for lunch. Just a few hours of me time and I'm good for months!
Ideally I like to try and go myself but when I do have to bring the kids I go first thing in the morning with everyone well rested and lots of snacks and juice!
Giving yourself enough time to brouse ane enjoy...
I leave the kid at home with the husband - that way I can shop in peace and take my time!
Wear a zip up top so you can get in and out of clothes quickly. I hate having to pull shirts and sweaters over my head to get something else on.
My girls 5 and 8 are big Old Navy fans. So when we go shopping, I tell them that if they wait patiently for mom as I check out my clothing section, they will get a prize of one article of clothing (which they love, and I do too cuz the price is right) it works! They are quiet as church mice as I browse and and burst with excitment when I tell them they can go to the girls section!
When I have to go shopping with my kids the only way to make it enjoyable is to make sure they are well rested and not hungry. Then we can cruise the aisles, browse and not have tantrums or meltdowns.
We love Old Navy, to make in enjoyable we make sure that we pick out something for our son first then we can shop shop shop.... we also love a good bargain and the pet section
Shopping for me is best done alone! Especially in a store like Old Navy where you can wander for hours without anyone saying..."mom"..."sarah"..."are we done yet"...."you are buying that too"....ARG!!!!!!!
we totally love Old Navy - I think my dd's entire wordrobe is all Old Navy clothing. It fits her great and is very durable. Because I like to take my time while shopping at Old Navy, I'm always sure to bring snacks and a juice box for my little one.....and a bottle of water for me!
It is enjoyable when my son finds his favourite Old Navy hoodie.
on my own. Though last november I took my two older kids to Old Navy when they were having a huge sale and they were as excited as I was. They got to pick out some clothes they wanted (and I may not have picked for them). My son didn't even mind standing in the huge line, while my daughter & I kept shopping. That was a fun day.
I shop with my aunt. We plan a day of it and are gone for hours. Taking our time browsing stores, out for lunch & dinner and looking for great deals! No stress with kids or husbands!
Shopping with my daughter and then going out for lunch makes my shopping trip enjoyable.
Most enjoyable when I am by myself, I can fly through the store and make sure everyone in the family will have something at the end of the trip.
Most enjoyable shopping trip is when I leave the kids at home with dad♥♥♥
If I'm shopping with the kids I bring a snack for them and my boys especially love the little floor game that our Old Navy has where they step on the images and they change and interact with them. (I still don't know how that works!)
Step 1- Leave the kids at home
Step 2 - Eat before going (Don't want to try on clothes bloated)
Step 3 - Make sure you have proper under garments (This makes a world of a difference when trying on different tight or not tight outfits - I call it Power Bra. LOL)
Step 4 - Bring a girlfriend that is honest (I hate when someone says it looks nice just to hurry you up)
Step 5 - CHARRRRGE IT. and Have fun.
I like to shop with my daughters so they can help me choose what looks great on me. They can help me find the right sizes and bring them to me in the changing room. We have fun shopping together.
Have an unlimied amount of funds to spend!
Having my boyfriend with me to occupy the toddler is the best way to make it enjoyable for me!
When out and about with my infant, I try to time it so that his mid-day nap (lasting about 2-3 hrs) is while I'm shopping; even better, if it's a weekday, the malls are quiet and empty and I won't have to worry about him being startled awake.
I love to go shopping on A RAINY DAY and it would be even better WITHOUT the kids but since there ALWAYS with me...the rainy day gets us out of the house(for a change of scenery and some walking) and as long as I have a bottle and a diaper for my baby and a game or music for my preschooler with a healthy snack for both we're good to go...
Also I try to go in between breakfast and lunch cause the stores aren't really all the busy(not to many really wants to go shopping on a rainy day) and the kids are fed and happy...plus i'm back at home for nap-time and to make supper before my husband gets home.
Leave the kids at home if possible. Either way, it's best to have a specific idea of what you're looking for (ie. striped shirt, casual dress, jeans) and only try on that specific item in stores. Keeps me focused.
Going shopping with my daughter 1st thing in the morning (before we are tired) is very enjoyable. We usually finish off our shopping trip with lunch
I need to be on my own and in the mood to go shopping, especially if the shopping is for me.
Take short breaks from walking and shopping all day. Treat yourself to chocolates or ice cream on your break.
I like to shop alone and early in the day while I'm not tired. I wear comfortable shoes and clothing that is easy to get in and out of for trying on clothes.
Wear comfortable shoes and eat something before you go shopping.
I love shopping with my family, first we shop for the kids and let the kids to choose their fave items than it's Mom and Dad's turn.
My best tip is to go shopping with a friend and leave the spouse at home.
Going to mall on my own on weekday afternoon where there isn't a crowd and having sufficient amount of funds to spend!
check out websites for specials & coupons first to get the best deals!
We start out early, go for breakfast before shopping, shop till lunch time then go out for lunch, home and rest LOL
My best tip is to not shop alone.Always shop with a friend or a relative.
I prefer to go solo, make sure I have enough time so I'm not rushing around, and have a clear destination in mind.
I like to start any shopping trip with a meal. Usually with breakfast with hubby or girlfriends. When we've filled our tummys we are ready to shop!
Taking sick day and sneaking out. Retail is so relaxed mid-week!
Eat and go to the bathroom before you start!
I always treat myself to lunch halfway through my shopping day. The break does wonders.
I like to shop alone and that makes it enjoyable.
My favorite shopping trips are usually by myself - I can totally concentrate on the task at hand instead to someone elses's needs - I love shopping make sure I have a good breakfast before I go and I aways tuck a protein bar in my bag just incase the day goes on way too long
If I'm bringing the kids then snacks (and lots of them) are the key to an enjoyable shopping experience....if I am by myself then I like my mom and sister to join me...we chat, shop and laugh!
Bring a friend that you trust to help you decide which items to buy! The friendly comments of, 'your butt looks great in those jeans' are always a warm welcome to me when shopping!!!
My daughter LOVES Old Navy and the kids' clothes there. For a 6-year-old, she is very fashion-conscious!
When I take the kids shopping, and that is usually for groceries, I allow them to choose 1 item (i.e. a cereal they really like) and that usually stops the whining!
Both my 13 year old daughter and I love shopping Old Navy. There are no tricks or tips, we just both love shopping!
Wearing comfortable clothes and shoes that you can change in and out of quickly, so you can try on many outfits.
Knowing what i'm looking for before i get to the store keeps me from feeling flustered. My number one tip is having a plan!
I always enjoy shopping at Old Navy but have gotten frustrated standing in line for a change room. I love the idea of the quick try on pod. Always try to be well rested and have the time to browse the many new styles.
leave the husband at home!
My plan for enjoyable (and productive) shopping trips includes:
wearing slip on shoes
shopping with a list of "wants"
allowing myself plenty of time to shop
If your time is as short as mine is, then park as far as you comfortably can from the mall/grocery store, and then you can get some steps into your daily 30 min walk. And for another tip, bring a pedometer and try to beat your score every time you shop so you can enjoy shopping while working out. :)
Don't have a to do list. I love shopping trips when I'm just looking and don't have a deadline. That's when I make great discoveries.
Give everyone with a time and place to meet just in case we get separated.
My tip for an enjoyable shopping trip is to do it online! 3AM? Not dressed? Kids sleeping? Doesn't matter, just point and click, then wait for the delivery.
Wear slip on shoes, easy on/off clothes and shop alone. Oh, and have lots of room on your credit card
I find it best to shop alone and to take my time!
bring lots of electronics to keep yourself busy as the wife circles the same store 15 times
spynaert@hotmail.com
I like to wear something simple like a tank top and yoga pants to make trying things on easy, without having to wait for a change room if there are lineups.
I wear comfortable clothes and shoes, leave the kids with their dad, make a list and get out to the stores early
I would always make sure that I buy a tshirt for my daughter when I go as she loves Old Navy tshirts!
When I go shopping I go early in the day to avoid the crowds, I wear light clothes, slip on shoes and a small purse. Makes it easier when you are trying clothes on, no line ups and your also not weighted down by a bulky purse.
two words: no kids.
I am a single mom, so I normally take one of my daughters with me.. the other stays with my Mom. We make it fun and have a list for each of us. We play silly games and use the list to make it interesting. Showing smaller children how to shop is important, one day they will be out doing it with their friends, so I try to teach them respect, finding a good deal, but most of all.. having fun!
LOL! Best tip: leave the kids and the hubby at home.
Making sure I have all kinds of time makes shopping enjoyable for me. I hate feeling rushed.
If going to a mall go in the morning as soon as the stores open and before the crowds
come out. Don't set a time limit but have a really good lunch with a friend. Go home and take a nap. Fun Day!
Olde Navy is such a great place for basic staples - love their khaki pencil skirts and bermuda shorts for me, and lots of great stuff for kids.
And yeah, I also do all the shopping on days off so I can go alone - it's nearly me time like that.
Spend time shopping with friends whom you enjoy being with. Laugh & just have fun!!
I do my homework. My time is at a premium, not a lot of time for mindlessly wandering through stores, so I go on a store's online website, and check out the special promotions and seasonal offerings, make notes of the items that catch my eye (even print some pictures) and go into the store with a plan, and that helps me stick to my budget, as well. I also look for printable coupons on a website which also goes a long way to stretching an already taxed, limited shopping budget.
To tell you the truth, I kinda prefer online shopping for Old Navy. I think the new layouts are probably much better for everyone (yay!) but when I go looking for children's items, I seldom find the sizes I want, which feels like a waste of time when you walk in hoping to score a bunch of basics (on sale too!) but leave with only 3 items... I find online shopping to be a huge timesaver for me. And oftentimes, they have the sizes in stock, so I usually get everything on my list.
I love to have music when I'm shopping, upbeat music, stuff from the 70's and 80's ( I'm not fussy) so I can bop as I'm shopping
Eat before you go. Wear comfortable shoes, leave the kids at home, and bring a friend that enjoys shopping just as much as me. If I take my husband or kids they want to leave and I am not ready I like to take my time shopping to make sure I have not missed out on a deal
My best tip is to bring books, toys and food for the kids so they'll be willing to follow me around. Otherwise I spend all my time supervising them at the lights display on the floor and don't get to shop! lol...
Thanks for the giveaway!
To make the trip the besst one ever I leave the kids and the husband at home and enjoy my shopping!!!
For me it's enjoyable to have my best friend with me that's honest & can carry my parcels & bags, lol (I have a bad back)
I make sure to have a list of exactly what I need, so that I can get in and get my shopping done quickly.
I'm sorry, but for me personally, my best tip is to leave my 3 boys at home with daddy! Next would be to make my list and make sure I have all my coupons with me!
I like to be at the store when the stores open. When you are the only one in the store you get much better customer attention.
Leave my kids at home and go shopping by myself or with a friend
Takes Old Navy to come up with the quick change station. I love it.
put mommy or daddy smile in your kids pocket! before entering store mall go over rule no playing around not toys stay close to buggy help mom dad or family member for works of mercy per Divine Mercy Jesus I Trust in you chaplet! Jesus and Mother Mary loves taking their tears away and having kisses in works of mercy prayers love and good behaviour listening ect..if oops happen no asking grandma or aunty ect to change no get up stop crying you knew the rules find mommy or daddy smile in while parent aunt or grandma ect counts 1 to 3 on number three smile is in place tears streamming but no tamtrums look in adult eye ask forgiveness and repair with works of mercy helping mom carry stuff or hold grandma's hands help her to walk ect. forgive and forget but love of the neighbour! yes aunty loves this rule that a mommy with 6kids came up it works ! fast too! Thanks you Divine Mercy Jesus I Trust in you1 little 5yr old even wash grandma hair or clean dishes for love of God and the neighbour!
comfortable shoes & a water bottle !
Best tip for shopping dont shop with husband or kids lol unless they are paying for it
Make sure I am well rested and fed.
To make shopping more enjoyable I go alone, make sure I have lots of time, put my water bottle in my purse and dress comfortably : nothing worse then being hot.
Nothing spoils a day of shopping like sore feet. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and light clothing. Bulky, heavy sweaters and coats are a no no! Remember you will be trying on new clothes so keep your shopping outfit as simple and comfortable as possible.
I like to go shopping without my husband or kids, that way I'm not rushed and I can take my time trying different things on.
having unlimited funds works for me!
I do the best shopping when I'm on my own. I need to have the time to think and try things on and then think some more.
wearing comfy shoes is essential.
Don't shop when its busy or if you are exhausted
Only go on a day when you have patients and a happy baby! Pack lots of snacks and toys to entertain with and think positive thoughts about deals!
For me, the best tip for an enjoyable shopping experience is to have time to browse and shop.
It's never relaxing to be rushed and feel like you "have" to be there as opposed to having lots of time to browse leisurely and "wanting" to be there !
The best tip for an enjoyable shopping trip for me is to shop alone when the stores not busy.
One word: lists! I find that if I go shopping without a plan or a list, I end up (a) buying more than I should, (b) forgetting what it was I originally went for, and/or (c) getting overwhelmed & frustrated!
heather at timm dot ca
I love to shop when I have a lot of time so that I'm not rushed.
Shop Alone! Although not always possible, we are always distracted by our kids, our spouses...ect...if you really want to maximize your shopping and actually buy stuff you will wear, take a few hours and go on your own!
What makes shopping really enjoyable is going with a friend whose style you admire. You can share ideas and have lots of laughs together.
I find my husband quite helpful when shopping....and no kids :)
My best tip to make shopping enjoyable is to go early in the morning. The stores are less crowded, the kids are well rested and your patience hasn't yet been tested. It's just better for everyone!
I wear easy to remove shoes and clothing so trying things is quicker, especially with kids coming along.
Always leaving my kids at home - or if they have to come - bring books and markers to entertain them.
i enjoy shopping the most when i'm browsing with a wallet full of cash
To make my shopping more enjoyable I have to have a plan. I tell my daughters what it is that we are shopping for and what stores we will go to. Knowing what we are shopping for makes our trips quick and my daughters know not to ask for anything not on our list.
Shopping is the most enjoyable when there are less crowds so I like to take a vacation day (on a weekday) and go shopping when I can take my time.
My best tip is to try to avoid the weekend rush. Going shopping at "off" times, like early in the morning, or Tuesday evening creates a more enjoyable shopping experience.
Leave the high heels at home & wear comfy shoes. Your feet will thank you for it & you will accomplish a lot more in your day.
I usually just naturally enjoy shopping, but if I want to really have fun I like taking my 3 year old daughter along. Especially in stores like Old Navy, where there is so much space and so much for us to look at. We both enjoy a little shopping therapy while getting a good value on clothing she needs to start the season. In fact, we'll be going soon because she needs t-shirts and shorts for the coming (I hope) warm weather.
Having a good idea of what you want (sometimes bringing pictures helps) and giving your self lots of extra time so you don't feel rushed.. that way you don't make purchases that you regret..
when I go shop I take psp and DS let kids play while I shop
easy to keep everyone happy
Always have patience especially when travelling with kids. Bring them a toy to play with, a snack, juice/water to keep them occupied .
Also weekends can be a mad house at old navy since everyone is off work/ school try and go during the week if possible.:)
1. Take a trusted fried with you...one that tells the truth1
2. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes that are easy to get in and out of easily.
3. Relax and enjoy your outing.
I never get to go out shopping, so just going out shopping with or without anyone is great. and make sure you have your husband's credit card!
The best tip I have is to make sure that everyone's eaten and hit the bathroom before you even start. If you can, find a store that serves the whole family - it didn't take long to realize that teenage boys have no interest in Mom's shops, etc.
Old Navy is one of the few stores that the entire family can shop in without anyone getting bored. There's lots of things for Mom, my teenage son and my teeni-bobber daughter - and the quality and prices are so great....Mom doesn't mind the extras that end up in the cart!
I love the fact that my family of 6 can go in and all purchase there. I like to be able to co-ordinate outfits for my 4 children for special occasions and for photo sessions and I am able to walk around 1 store and purchase something for everyone. Also with a family so big, we are able to pick up things at a reasonable price and it does get expensive to shop for us all. Promotions are great. When you can go in a purchase a new t-shirt for $5 for each member, takes a guilt out of those moments when you think you should be saving for something else.
My tip for anyone shopping with a family, is to shop at 1 store that you can get everyone something. Kids do not want to be dragged from store to store. Iif you can go in, get what you need and out, without making it too difficult on the kids, the better. They will be more apt to be happy to return with you another day and be just as well behaved.
However, I would like to see something other than bouncy balls in their HUGE gum ball machines. I like to treat the kids to a little something there for being so good, but those bouncy balls go everywhere and you end up running after them. With that being said, I love the idea of the HUGE gum ball machine and a treat for 25cents is so very reasonable since most machines are over $1 for a little thing.
Thanks Old Navy for keeping my family looking good, happy and within our tight budget!
As a guy, I like to go in and get what I need to get and then leave. I'm not into window shopping or simply browsing for the sake of it. The best tip for an enjoyable shopping experience is to engage with people, even if it's just a simple hello or smile. Kind of sounds corny, but having a positive attitude is contagious.
I love shopping with my husband. He's great at picking out nice things...quickly!
Bring a friend so they can give their opinion on an article of clothing.
Be well-rested before your shopping trip and wear comfortable shoes. Shop with a positive and fun attitude, the fun is in the process.
I like when my Husband comes with me so he can help with what he likes on me to help with the purchase. I want to feel good with what i am wearing but i also want my Husband to enjoy what i am wearing also.
I find it's best to shop on my own and at a quiet time for the store.
The best shopping is done when the kids are at home and I have a plan. So many times I go "thinking" I know what I need to get and then it's all forgoten and I'mleft wandering about aimlessly :)
Always check out the store flyer before you go and see if there is anything you want from it. If you do, you are already one step ahead.
I definitely leave the bulk at home if at all possible, Shop in a store that you really like and try to take your time. Don't rush, you end up buying stuff you either don't want or need. Make sure you have comfortable shoes and if shopping a moonlight madness or similar sale, leave little children and babies at home. I cannot believe the number of small children and infants at the mall at 11:00 at night. Definitely not a pretty picture.
I make a deal with the kids, at one of the Old Navy's we go to, there is a colouring station by the change rooms. So the kids let me pick out what I want to try on and then as I try on my clothes, they get to colour. I works excellent, I love it and they love it to. It keeps them busy and they behave very well so that they get to colour.
eat and drink prior to shopping for energy, also have a plan of what your looking for, and wear something that is easy to get off and on for trying on clothes.
Best tip? Get a babysitter for the kiddies, grab a girlfriend (for support and opinions) and take your time! Sometimes the best finds are hidden in a rack.
travel light ie leave your coat in the car or at the coat check desk if there is one available. grab a stroller for the kids there too and make sure you bring a container of cheerios and snacks or hand held game for the older ones to keep them busy and happy while you are browsing. ask the staff for assistance, some are very good at putting together an outfit and knowing where to find items instead of searching on your own.
hit the sales racks first then make sure you go through the whole store for those hidden gems
I find it most enjoyable when I am by myself, and can browse for as along as I want to
Kids are darling...but if you can, leave them at home. Mine loathe shopping and I find when I take them with me I always over spend because I am more inclined to by impulse items that they like and I don't have the time to hunt for the true bargains!
wear comfortable clothes so trying on items is easy, and take a friend along who you value their opinion, i like shopping with friends as we always have fun
Ccarry around swatches of outfits you have at home that you want to add to (hint--you can usually find a nice piece of excess material at an interior seam that can be safely snipped off). It is much easier to know if that $4.99 on sale shell in that unique colour can actually be worn with your best suit if you have a swatch of the suit colour with you. Of course the price is great but if it is never worn you might as well save your $4.99 and put it towards a great full priced top that matches perfectly and will get tons of wear!!!
One of the best tips I can tell you is try and get your child involved helping you choose the cloths and ask them to keep their eyes out for a colour. They will be only too happy to help out and will help you with your sanity. My wife and i do this while she is looking for cloths and my 5 yr old son loves to help out mommy.
This is the ONLY tip to follow: Leave your kids at home.
Yup, that about does it!
Like many other people have mentioned, to have an enjoyable shopping experience... LEAVE THE KIDS AT HOME! Hubby, too! Go by yourself or with a friend who also wants to shop so you don't feel like you have to rush through your time in Old Navy because you know they don't want to be there.
For me, I like to shop earlier in the morning to avoid rushes and crowds. The store is usually neat and not picked over and nice and quiet which works for me.
I like to reward myself for finding good bargains by buying myself a fancy coffee!
I like to browse alone!!! I think taking my kids is just setting myself up for failure. I once bought a bunch of stuff and took it home to try on and then returned a few items and the saleslady was so rude and made a remark about having fitting rooms. I travel with children sometimes its easier to take stuff home and not have to deal with temper tamtrums.
My best tip is to shop before noon when stores are less crowded.
I love going to the mall alone and shopping. It's so much easier than taking the kids and my husband - especially if I am buying clothes for myself. I also enjoy going with my mother or with a friend but going alone is also enjoyable for me.
When I go shopping, I must have a list, for everything, I have a bad memory.
I try to go at times when I know store wont be too busy, and now days with store opening earlier or staying open later at night makes it much easier.
I like shopping to be efficient so I go alone and I like to go when the crowds are lower -Monday to Wed (before noon or on a Monday or Tuesday night). When I Christmas shop I go right at the dinner hour early in the week since people that were at the mall in the afternoon leave to go home for dinner and the night time crowd has not really fully arrived yet.
In order to not be disappointed while shopping you need to be prepared. If you are shopping for pants you need to bring a few pairs of shoes. If you are wearing sandals you need to bring socks.
If you are shopping for shirts you need to bring a few bras. There is nothing worse than not being able to figure out if the shirt is actually bad or if it just isn't working because of the bra.
I l
Oops! Silly iPhone
Leave the kids at home!! :) Common theme???
I love shopping with my newborn. I just make sure to feed him before and he sleeps like a little angel.
Make sure you have a good meal so you can shop without interruption for at least a couple of hours.
A shopping trip is really exciting for us, because we live in the country and we are three hours away from the mall. So, to make every shopping trip great, we make sure that we have enough time to visit a few stores that interest each person in our family.
Wear comfy shoes and light clothing. Stores tend to get hot when you're running around and wearing less means you'll be comfortable and can try on clothes quickly!
My tip is to leave the kids at home. Nothing makes trying on clothes worse than a whining child.
My best shopping tip is to go on a Friday night and go alone. Mmmmm I love shopping alone in a quiet mall!
First of all, I have to be 'in the mood' to shop for clothing. There's nothing worse than walking around aimlessly, being critical of all that you see. I also have a bite to eat before I go, carry a bottle of water in my bag (I always get so thirsty! Shopping is tough work! ;o) I adopted a rule of thumb a few years ago, to only buy what I love - life is too short to surround yourself with mediocrity. Try things on, look at all angles (don't forget the rear view!) and make a decision that is right for you.
First off let me say how much"I love to shop"mostly for my kids but whatever!!! I love Old Navy what a great store they have style, selection and great prices!!!And you can find stuff for the whole family too!!
I pick my budget before I go. I don't like to clothes shop..I get tired easily, but if I know how much I am planning on spending, it seems to make it easier.
I prefer to clothes shop alone. I like to wander down aisles and take my time. It is fun for me to try on different clothes. You never know what you are going to come across!
My favourite way to go shopping is to ensure my 5 year old son is having fun at a play day, and then my Husband and I go for a nice lunch, maybe catch an afternoon Matinee movie, and then do some leisurely shopping. I have a WONDERFUL Husband with great taste, so I love having him clothes shop with me!
My favourite way to go shopping is alone, or with a friend. Definitely easier to do without kids running around! :)
Old Navy is my fav place to shop, I try to go as early as I can, I am a early riser so if it is a great sale I could be there at 7 - before everyone else, that is best for me! Then I go alone for sure, and with cash so I NEVER overspend - very important to me. I also b-line to the sale rack then back track to the other racks if I have not found what I want on sale ;) I get way more for my $$ that way.
I love shopping in a store that is simple and not complicated.I love to grab a tea before I go shopping so I can take my time shopping and sip on my tea and enjoy myself more when I shop. I like the new layout of Old Navy and it gets me around better-now if they had more sales that would make me happier.
Shopping by myself sans kids! I can try on clothes in peace and find those that fit/look good without being rushed...
Shopping is more enjoyable when you shop with friends and leave the kids at home!!
Never enter Old Navy---or any store, for that matter---without having a clear-cut goal in mind;otherwise, chaos ensues, especially if shopping with small children.
go shopping when it's not busy
What would make shopping more enjoyable would be to have a few comfortable chairs by the changing rooms. If you are shopping with a friend and they want to try on a few items it's tiring to stand around but if there were chairs it would be a lot easier.
I HAVE SHOPPED OLD NAVY,FOUND SOME GREAT STUFF IN THERE BUT YOU DO HAVE TO LOOK,VERY CROWDED.
The absolutely only way to shop is BY MYSELF with no time constraints. Leave husband and children at home!!!
Its best to shop when you are not hungry, so have something light before going for your shopping spree.
We are always on the go, and moving for my husband's job. Which means we are not always within a decent drive to an Old Navy Store. When we go, it is a destination shop. I bring a pair of pants and shirt with me from each of my kids and leave them with a friend or family member so they won't get antsy! One could say bringing the measurements would be easier, but I am more 'hands on' and this way I can look at an item and immediately know if I should buy it for the now, or the following season! My sister in law is in love with the Old Navy website because not only can she shop that store, but also the Gap and the shipping combines in one shopping basket!
If I'm going shopping with the intent to buy I have to alone. But if I'm just browsing or wandering in the mall I like my friend Kristi and her daughter to come with me.
For a shopping trip to be truly enjoyable leave the kids with dad for some quality time and take a girlfriend who adds some fun silliness and honest opinions. Where comfortable clothes, slip on shoes and a good bra. Spend as much time and money available (remind hubby he forgot your birthday again) and then go out for a chocolate dessert afterwards to celebrate your sale findings!
Going at baby's naptime is key! Then I have a chance to try things on while she sleeps in the stroller.
I think leaving the kids at home helps to not become frazzled and impulse buy.
I make sure that I'm not going shopping when I'm going to be rushed. I do love shopping in Old Navy, as I can bring the whole family and get everything done at once.
Always shop with a list and know what shops you are going to hit. It stops me from impulse buying. Also if you go with the kids make sure that you give yourself some extra time, and take frequent breaks. Old Navy has always been one of my best stores to shop with kids because there is always enough to keep them interested, and my girls love trying clothes on with me.
Go shopping when you have the time to dedicate to buying what you are looking for and make sure you know what you are looking for before you leave home.
Wandering around aimlessly in the mall is not a fun time.
Taking your time. Don't go in try one thing on get discouraged and leave. Keep in mind that their are people there to help you find what you need.
Old Navy is great. Go there on a weekday morning or afternoon if you can and let the kids run amok!
get a sitter for the kids and go durring the first or second week of your cycle (you'll be in the best mood) and take a trusted friend
Shopping without the kids always is more enjoyable, but to make it even more fun, i like to bring a friend.
To make a shopping trip enjoyable, plan ahead! Have an idea what you are looking for (but have wiggle room if something really catches your eye). Check the internet before you leave to see if there are any special coupons out as it is very frustrating to find something you like, know there is a coupon, but not have it with you. A few minutes of organization before you go can save you time in the long run.
to be productive, I need to do it alone.
I find having a goal in mind, the specific pieces you are looking for, helps take the temptation off when it comes to over spending. Also, I never shop when hungry because this always leads to me feeling rushed and making bad decisions as a result. And if I can, I leave plenty of time for trying on and really evaluating each piece. Love Old Navy, had a trip there this past weekend; a few things for me and some new pieces for summer for my daughter! Great prices and current styles to punch up any wardrobe for the coming season.
It's difficult for me to arrange an afternoon for myself so when the chance presents itself I leave the children with my husband and head for the nearest Old Navy and spend a couple of uninterrupted hours shopping for myself and the family. I truly enjoy this time.
My daughter and I go together and always include lunch out when we're done. I love this one on one time together.
Timing is everything if you have a toddler with you! Make sure the child (and you) are rested, not hungry, and not in a rush to do something else, and you can have a good hour or two in the store! Happy shopping!
Bring someone objective who will always give you there honest opinion.
I have to be in the mood to shop, especially if I will be trying on clothes and I prefer to shop on my own!
Just make sure everyone you are gonna be shopping with is in a good mood LOL
If they're cranky before they go in the door than it will only be miserable for everyone!
I am not too crazy about shopping, so my best tips are to know what I want, go by myself and get in and out fast. Also, I try to go when I know the store will not be too busy, like a weekday morning or early afternoon. Forget Friday night or the weekends, they are a recipe for headaches!
Make sure you are well rested ;well fed and are with someone else that wants to shop at the same pace as yourself and you should have an enjoyable shopping experience.
To avoid feeling defeated in the changeroom, bring plenty of items to try on, and if you aren't sure which size you are, bring two sizes. When I shop I'm only willing to make one trip to the fitting rooms - bringing lots to try makes it more likely that I find something I love.
Eat or have a healthy snack before you go shopping. This not only gives you energy but also keeps your moody happy and positive.
For a shopping trip to be enjoyable, I need to be in the right frame of mind. If I really need to find something, but I'm not in the mood to search, it's not fun and there's no way I'm going to find it.
Tip one: leave the kids at home.
Tip two: see tip one.
That's it. :)
For me, if I am shopping for clothes for myself, it's going with a girlfriend and then stopping for lunch.
I wear flat shoes, thin slim leggings, zip top and viola! Trying on clothes is a snap. You don't even need the change rooms.
Comfortable shoes and a coupon in hand :)
shop when you are in a good mood, and have plenty of time to try things on.
My best tip by far is to leave the kids and hubby Home and just go of shopping to the store by yourself or with a friend..:)
Shop on a day when you have no other things to do. Take a girlfriend and take time for a coffee of lunch. We Moms need this sometime!
I find that leaving my little ones with my husband and going out with a girlfriend to do clothes shopping together is really wonderful as I can take my time, try on what I like and, on top of it, get the opinion of my good friend as to what looks good. This makes for a really enjoyable, relaxing time and then going out for a bite to eat later is always great.
I make sure everyone is rested, well fed and comfortable and then we shop! I've always made shopping fun by letting my child pick what they would like to try on too wear.
I have found the best time to shop is first thing in the morning when there is more parking available, the shops are less crowded and shop assistants are generally friendlier and more helpful.
Have a specific goal, focus on one or two things only and find exactly what you are after, so that when you return home you feel positive and happy with your successful purchases.
Have a budget as its not a good idea to shop when you are short of money - this will only encourage poor decision making and create additional stress which is easily avoided. Maxing out your credit card soon destroys the shopping high, and everything else if you are not careful.
My tip is to have the items in mind that you want to purchase and stick to it. It's very easy to get distracted in a store and end up buying things you didn't intend to or didn't need!
Never take your kids!!! It might sound like a good idea... but it never is!!LOL
I like to shop by myself early in the morning. Not to many shoppers around so I don't feel overwhelmed by to many people in the store...plus..I can get checked out rather quickly which is a bonus when I am done shopping!
SHop when you have lots to do so keep on track - power shopping is best! Leave the teens at hom as it always costs money when they com!!
To make it enjoyable, I leave the hubby at home. He is so impatient when it comes to clothes shopping...even when I'm shopping for him. (Yes!! I dress my husband)
An enjoyable shopping trip is having lots of time to browse, having a friend who will be honest and tell you what looks good on you, and visiting a store when there are lots of sales going on.
An enjoyable shopping trip is going early, not when I'm tired and visiting a store that has a sale, not crowded and lots of stock in my size
Shopping is enjoyable with me and my child. I would tell the hubby that we'll meet him later at the mall food court or something because we like to take our time finding what we like the best. Yes, most men are impatient.
take someone with similar shopping styles
spynaert@hotmail.com
Leave the kids at home with dad!
I just make sure I have a few snacks in my purse...some are for true hunger for the kiddo and others are treats for when she gets bored or was not whiny.
If shopping with my 5 year old, I include him in the decision making. This way he feels that he is choosing his clothes and for me it makes the day more enjoyable.
For me to have an enjoyable shopping trip, I need to be well-rested, well fed and I need to do it on my own! No kids! No buggers! And a notepad to stay organized!
Focus shopping trips on one kid at a time so that the other kid(s) don't get bored. One kid gets all the attention. I have one who loves the shop and the other one hates it. So I can be leisurely with one, and have to get it done with the other.
Having money to spend sure makes it more fun lol , but having time is just as important. Shopping is no fun if you are feeling stressed or in a hurry. So i like to go on a day when i have free time and can really browse and look around and try things on, and it is usually better if there are no men or boys with you trying to get you to hurry up lol
Don't have a to do list. I love shopping trips when I'm just looking and don't have a deadline. That's when I make great discoveries.
I think for me it is shopping with a good friend with no kids on our days off with lots of laughter and time to look around and not having to see what the kids have gotten into next...lol and being able to bring home little surprises for them at the end of the day
I find stores with little to no natural light make me tired and shorten the amount of time I can spend in a store under all those hologen lights.
A store with lots of windows or none flickering hologens make for a better shopping experience.
Comfortable shoes, good company and no rushing! The perfect and enjoyable shopping day!
My biggest tip for shopping with a school-aged child is to let them know the schedule and expectations before heading into the store. Such as, "We will be going shopping for half an hour in Old Navy and then ......." (something that is pleasurable for them afterward). I also let them know that if they follow the rules (which we also go over before going out) they will get to chose a special game to play together when we get home or reward at the end of the shopping trip. This seems to work well as they know what is expected of them, how long we will be out, as it can for children seem like it may never end. I use my watch often to referring them to see how much time we have left for shopping. Also giving children a job such as helping push the cart, or look for a particular item keeps them busy and engaged. For younger children I try to make shopping trips quick, at a time of the day when they are well rested and fed, and also always have things to distract them close at hand when I am unable to do shopping without them : )
My most helpful tip for going shopping is #1 Have A Plan.
I scout out what I want online, and then go into the store, and make my purchases.
Easy Breezy!
My best tip is if you have to take your children along. Have snacks in your purse.
And something that makes a great trip is helpful salespeople. That makes a huge difference.
Don't go hungry and bring a bottle of water to keep you hydrated.
My eldest son, 4.5yrs, is starting to get the feel for what he likes, although, still working on the colour coordination thing. He loves to be able to pick out what he wants (from a suggested area). Old Navy makes us both happy, it has what he is into for the moment and what he needs for clothing.
kid free with good walking shoes lots of time because i tend to take my time on decisions and a good friend who loves to shop as much as I do makes shopping enjoyable for me
Shopping with my best friend who moved away is the best. We do it without kids and we meet half way and spend the entire day together. I also have a tradition with my daughter that for her birthday we go to Old Navy and she gets to pick an outfit.
Go with a friend, have lunch and make it relaxing.
wear comfortable shoes, bring water, take your time and don't rush (might miss a deal), bring a friend (for a second opinion), and enjoy your outting.....
p.s. leave the kids and hubby at home!
The best tip I have for making a shopping trip enjoyable is having enough time to browse and not rush through the experience.
wearing comfortable clothes and shoes and forget about trying on clothes......just buy what you like and try them on in the comfort of your home in front of your mirrors and decide what you will keep and what you will return.
Wear clothes that are easy to change in and out of - there is nothing worse than wearing tight clothing or too many layers when you are trying on a bunch of new items!
Comfortable shoes, being hydrated and a friend for company & advice!
having money to shop with would be great.
I love Old Navy. They have something for everybody. There prices are reasonable and fit a lot of people's budgets. I think that brighter lighting in the store would be good. Also fast lane checkouts are a good idea.
I think it's really important to bring a list of needed items so you don't stray to far and over purchase. Of course there's always room for a little splurge but sticking to a list helps to budget better.
I always go when Old Navy has their 30% off sale. Then I really don't even have to worry about the prices because they are even better than norma
I try to shop only after I've eaten and I have plenty of time so as I'm not always looking at my watch so I have better judgement
I have my color palette ready to match and can move right to the area that I am looking for. I wear clothes that are quick to get off and leave the accesories at home.
I love shopping with my daughters (ages 14 and 17). We always have fun!! A starbucks to start the shopping trip is also a must!!!
My 20 year old daughter and I have tons of fun shopping! We don't take ourselves too seriously, we never rush, and we browse the whole store to check out all the new stuff. We always have a great time.
I like to relax while I shop so my sister and I go together shop, have lunch, shop til dinner and go to eat at a place we love. Then we go do an activity because we ate ay restaurants twice in one day although we walked enough shopping to wear it off it's nice for the two of us to spend time together, and we get alot of shopping done!
go without the kids!
go shopping on a weekday when there are no crowds!
Shopping is much more enjoyable without kids. That way I can take my time and enjoy the whole experience. Especially trying clothes on. That's when my kids really act up
Make sure everyone's ready to go nothing ruins a shopping trip like a :mommmmmmmy I have to go potty!!!!!" also bring a snack and some water so you don't have to make trips to the food court. Last but not least its very important to make sure all patrons including you have on comfy shoes.
Take a fun friend along with you, who also loves to shop and who will also be honest with you about if the clothing you're trying on looks good on you or not. Do it on a day where you won't have to be rushed and just have fun!
Bring lots of snacks and toys along if you're bringing the kids.
I don't enjoy emergency shopping trips, so I try to organize and prepare a trip schedule as much as possible. This way I'm not wandering around aimlessly, wasting money where I don't need to.
I guess I would go at a time when it wouldn't be busy and also, not take the kids ;)
I plan a specail day,get up with a friend and go for breakfast so wer are ready to hit the stores when they first open before they are too busy.I have fun and love to have a second opinion from a good friend!
Give yourself lots of time to shop, so you can stay relaxed!
I wear clothes that are easy to get in and out of, and no coat if possible!
Dress comfortably, eat first, and bring a friend who's opinion you trust.
The whole family goes. One to watch the kids so they don't get into anything they shouldn't, and one to pick out the clothes. Makes for a far less stressful shopping trip.
Never go shopping when you are hungry : )
I live to shop when I have plenty of time to browse and try things on.
leave the kids at home with a babysitter, then you have time to browse without distractions. That makes shopping enjoyable.
for me to have an enjoyable shopping trip, i have to have my visa paid off and money in the bank with out that, i tend not to spend much, and of course, shopping with my best friend
Wear clothes that are easy to get in and out of when going clothes shopping, and wear the shoes you'll be wearing.
know what your going in for , allow yourself plenty of time to shop, go in the morning nice and early and if you can't afford it , you shouldn't buy it
I make sure that I have snacks for my 10 month old....and for myself. If one is hunger, the last thing you want to do is try on clothes.
I prefer to shop alone because I find nobody else can keep up with me and I get a lot more done.
For me, the best shopping trips are the ones that take place first thing in the morning during Monday - Friday, when I'm well-rested and by myself. This gives me plenty of time to shop without someone else slowing me down.
Leave the kids at home and look online for coupons.
Give yourself plenty of time to look around and don't rush your kids, let them explore aswell then you will all leave happy.
The best tip I can give to make a shopping trip enjoyable is to dress nicely and comfortably. Dressing nicely can boost your ego and self confidence. if you have kids with you, bring some snack and toys to keep them from getting bored. I include them in the decision making so that they feel included in the shopping trip.
Go with a plan and a good shopping buddy. Make sure you have a good breakfast, wear comfortable shoes and get there early. Fun Fun Fun!
make sure you aren't hungry or thirsty. Leave cranky little ones at home or with a sitter - trust me, it makes everyone happier!
dress sensibly, it's no fun trying on clothes when you have 6 layers to take off/put on, if your husband doesnt like to shop leave him at home;), bring someone who's opinion you can trust, dont make impulse buys if you cant decide go for a coffee break and think it over, and bring lots of money, thats what really makes shopping fun!
For me a great shopping trip is planned out. Hit the best sale first, shop with a buddy that will tell you the truth about how things look etc. But don't forget to plan a nice stop for a quick lunch and a coffee! Above all it has to be fun!!
Go with a plan and your coupons handy. Take a buddy to back you up. Leave the distractions at home and have a great time. End the day with dinner and a movie (if you still have any money left!) To me that is the perfect shopping day!
My best shopping tip it to book a friend, grab a mocha frap and ditch the hubby and kids!
My tip is "YOU HAVE TO LOVE IT!"...if you have to decide whether or not to buy it, or tilt your head to the side while you like at your reflection in the mirror - PUT IT BACK! If you don't LOVE IT in the store, it's not going to change when you get home...I'm at the point I JUST KNOW if it's coming home with me...:D Hope my tip saves you a few dollars to put towards something YOU LOVE! ;D
I preplan my shopping trips and look online for sales and coupons before I hit the mall..that way I never spend more $ than necessary!
To make my instore shopping easier, I will often peruse the shop's website (if they have one) beforehand to get an idea of what's potentially available to buy. That way, I can be more focused in my shopping when I get on site.
I make sure I wear comfortable shoes as I usually cover a lot of ground!
Bring a stylish friend and leave the kids at home.
My best tip: Leave the husband at home! Mine stresses me out when shopping. Unless it's a new toy for him he hates shopping and rushes me or says things like "what are you looking at that for?" ugh! lol! Taking the kids are fine...my daughter loves to shop, esp. for clothes. I just have to be available for the modeling. My son, I think he takes after his father, is slow to try things on and then starts goofing around. Alot of patience is required for him, but we usually get the job done.
Making it a day out with a friend makes shopping enjoyable.
Go early in the morning when there are no crowds and you can browse and find great items.
Go shopping by myself and wear easy clothes and shoes to remove when trying on in store.
The best tip to make shopig more enjoyable is leave the men at homw and go with your female friend or friends. They will love shoping too so you won't be rushed. Also will have someones advise on how the cloths look, Much more fun having a girls day out....
The best tip to make shopping more enjoyable is leave the men at home and go with your female friend or friends. They will love shopping too so you won't be rushed. Also will have someones advise on how the cloths look when trying them on. Make a day out of it, go for lunch. Much more fun having a girls day out....
Leave the kids at home with Dad...then no one whines "are you done yet?"
knowing what i need to buy and finding it! also going with my sister, who likes the same clothes i do so that we can shop together and get each other's opinions!
bring a bottle of water, wear comfy shoes, bring your own reusable bags, and don't go when the stores are busy.
My daughter, Zoey will be 6 years old in August. She's become quite the OLD NAVY "gal". With her layered tshirts, tanks, and Denim jacket being her most recent addition. Well a trip to the kids section is not hard to find. "Straight down here Mommy" she says. Everything is so open and there are so many mannequins to show her whats available. What makes trips to OLD NAVY enjoyable for me and Zoey is the fact that the store is easier to shop in, and because it's "our favourite" store I don't get nagged at. No more "lets go Mommy". It's "Oh this looks awesome Mom!" instead.
One of my first shopping trips with my new baby had me feeling some trepidation. I was travelling from out of town, had my 11-week baby in her stroller, and navigated subway & streetcar. Finally found the breastfeeding boutique I was looking for... Was welcomed in to the store. There was a place inside to park the stroller, they had a nursing lounge at the back of the store (with special nursing pillows!), footstools, and a kind staffer brought me a glass of water (she offered!). Then, after I had gathered up a few items and was wondering how I was going to try things on while juggling my baby, I saw that the changerooms had baby-friendly bouncy chairs. Amazing shopping experience. I tell all my pregnant and new mom friends about this place (Evymama in Toronto).
I like to go with friends and make a day out of it. We discuss our likes and dislikes what looks compliment us or do not, take our time seeking out the best deals and sales then treat ourselves after a great shopping day by spoiling ourselves with a wonderful lunch at one of our favorite restaurants.
I try to shop on early on Mondays and Tuesday, stores are less busy, no line-ups for changing rooms and check-outs, easy parking, etc... :)
Love to shop in the morning, the store are not to busy and you are not to tired, always wear comfortable shoe
I shop alone - yes, it's nice to get feedback, but I always feel rushed and feel obligated to buy something if a friend is with me.
I'm a single mom so if I shop I have two kids with me. My secret shopping tip is to keep those really big round lollipops in my pockets or bag. On the occasions I have to finish shopping or I want a some extra time to look at things just for me I hand out the lollipops. I get the time I need and everyone else has their mouth full. It is also helpful when most stores don't allow food or drinks, the lollipop in the mouth so far has never been argued with. All customer service people love quiet kids ;)
only been there once, my shopping tip is to go to this mall out of season. During the Christmas season was when we went and we found that there was no parking, and people are willing to drive down the wrong lane in order to snap up a parking spot. Best to leave your shopping to the online type and just keep your cool
My shopping tip is to make sure you take it slow and easy so that you don't miss anything carefully browse through the Old Navy store and if you don't always find what you want be sure and ask a sales representative they are always pleased and happy and ready to help you.
Always shop with a friend, one that gives honest feedback, wear comfortable shoes and bring your own reusable shopping bags.
Wear comfortable shoes!! :)
Wow there are so many great tips already listed - all of the ones I can think of like go alone or with a friend who will give you honest opinions, wear comfy footwear and don't be in a hurry!
Don't go shopping when you feel tired. It takes energy to find clothes that look and feel great on you.
honestly I try not to take my kids. If I have to I tell them they are allowed to get one thing so they have to choose wisely. Once they have their thing they are not allowed to ask for anything else
My best tip is to shop with someone that will give you an honest answer, when you ask Does this look good on me" that's my sister. We make a day of it and have lunch, and forget about all the other cares in the world. Makes for a great shopping day..
Try to have an idea in mind of what you want and don't get distracted by all the items on display. You can certainly change your mind, but having a focus cuts down on wasted time just looking.
I like to take my teenage daughter because then I just wait in the change room while she runs around and finds things for me to try on.
This recipe has 2 ingredients - a great friend and a large cup of coffee!! Caffeine keeps ya moving :)
I've been a huge fan of Old Navy for years ... and yes ... their new store layouts ROCK! It's sooo nice to know that I can just pop into Old Navy and outfit for the whole family, for a reasonable price!
try things on that you otherwise wouldn't have because you never know
Best tip is to leave the kids at home and either go alone or with a friend. It's good to have a second opinion when trying things on but also nice to have some time alone.
Best tip is to go alone and make the most of your time.
#1- I come armed with items to remedy all "challenges".
For example, snacks, small toys and sticker rewards for kids.
#2-I wear my "good" under wear and bras. Clothing always looks better when your wearing something nice underneath( did someone say SPANX?)
#3-Bring your honest friends or family. There is nothing worse then going home with a shirt that your bestie told you looks FAB when really you look like a sausage.
#4-Don't leave your home without checking the companies websites you plan to shop at for downloadable coupons. There is nothing worse then standing in a checkout amongst people who came armed with their 40% off printed coupons. *Quick tip*- check old receipts for surveys, quite often stores offer rewards for completing these.
#5-Don't forget your wallet...duh.
Do a shopping list of sorts, so you know what you want; you go in and get it; and then get out quickly! Nice and organized, so you're not walking around looking at every item, and picking things you don't really need!
Go early in the day so the stores are not crowded and the kids aren't cranky. And...bring lots of snacks to keep the kids occupied while you are shopping. Happy kids=happy me!
I love Old Navy and their clothes but being one who doesn't generally enjoy the shopping experience, I tend to shop online. I join their e-newsletter and receive awesome coupons.
However, when in a pinch and I have to head down to the local Old Navy, I try to go during off-hours. Less crowds, means more ease in the store and more help from the attendants.
Also, and I know how odd this will sound, I like to bring my husband. He's oddly zen during our shopping experiences and I think we make a good team :)
Even tho I am 60 I love Old Navy clothes. Never too old I say. I always remember to take my recycle bags when I go shopping for clothes or groceries, that is pretty important to me!
We're finally getting an Old Navy this fall! Can't wait, no more trying to get there every time I'm visiting a city where there is one. As for a tip, something I tend to forget, if your hair is long, bring a hair tie! My hair is always a static-y mess after trying on a few tops, plus sometime having hair up or down can completely change how you feel about an outfit.
so far the best tip i have found in lissening to the 3 generations of shop aholics that i am apart of is to go from openening to 11.30am from Tuesday to Thursday, excluding holiday weeks.
Make sure there are no time constraints on you, so you can meander as you please. Also if you go with someone else, make sure they are on the same page as you before you leave the house.
to have a enjoyable shopping trip... shop with those who make you laugh... shop with someone who you love... who knows how to have fun... :)
My best tip for myself would be to eat light the day before (less salt), have enough time or take your time and I take my mother-in-law who has great taste in clothing so she's honest with me and what I look at. I love Old Navy and found the best jeans there! I would love to buy a few more pairs there if they still make them! Thank you!
I love shopping with my teenage daughter. She is a great help with her younger sister and helps to pick out her clothes. I hope throughout the years we continue to share these mother-daughter shopping trips.
I usually have my young kids in tow, so I head out shopping armed with snacks and a book or two.
I always shop in the morning (after having a full breakfast). I need that energy to take in as many stores as possible! I also wear comfy shoes and I bring a list with me outlining exactly what I need to get.
For me is every shopping trip enjoyable
I like to have a relaxing meal before I go shopping. It ruins your shopping trip if you are hungry and cranky.
For me personally, the most enjoyable part of shopping, is the staff at the store! It's wonderful to feel like you have your own personal shopper who will give you an honest opinion of what looks good and will also make suggestions on clothing styles you may not have know about, due to their knowledge of the clothes and inventory. What more could you ask for!
Wear good walking shoes and go with someone who can keep up!
Don't try to do it with a minimum of time. Plan to do the day and then you will not be stressed out.
I make sure when going to Old Navy for serious shopping that I take someone who's fashion sense I trust. That way they will give me an honest opinion what looks good and what doesn't flatter me
I like to go early in the morning before it gets busy and you don't have to wait for a change room. It makes shopping go quicker and makes it more enjoyable.
years ago i learned christmas shopping at the Eaton center was best done on a Monday or Tuesday night, not so crowded. would go for any large mall.
i usually like to look online or at flyers to see what all the sales are first, make a list of what i want to get so i know first what to go for. Also I like to make a plan on what stores in order of how the stores/mall / streets are set up so i'm not running chaoticly all over the place. When it starts well organized, the rest is all fun- have some lunch, browse the rest of the time away at what might be in-store sales, or unexpected surprises. Also, no kids, but take your best friend makes it more fun!
My best tip - works for Old Navy ONLY - is involve my husband. He LOVES Old Navy and always finds something there for himself. He gets the Old Navy email newsletter and alerts me about coupons or special offers. So he is never impatient at Old Navy! At the store, we generally split up, each to our own section, and then consult later about our finds and go through the checkout together.
He was also awesome when it came to getting my teen some new flip-flops on sale. She was in Europe and I was at work when the sale was on, so he ducked into the store with the flyer with the colours she wanted circled, tracked them down and came home with three pairs that she loved. Dad/Honey, you rock!
I usually shop Old Navy with my 8 yr old dd. If she is not hungry and not filled up on sugar, she loves to shop, often dragging me all over the store to see items she likes! So if you bring a child, feed them something healthy before you get to the store.
We have a 2 year old who is EXTREMELY active, my advice is prepare well before you go: budget-wise as well as list-wise,write down what you need, stick to that list if money is an issue, bringing along any coupons you can find in fliers/online is great as well, feels good to save money.
If taking children along, if they tend to get cranky when you try to shop, but they fall asleep in stroller/car take them close to or a little past nap time, so they will have a nap while you shop. Being prepared is my most important thing as a mommy, take time when packing your babies bag, lots of wipes, diapers, creme, clothes, drinks, snacks and some fav electronic or other type toys to keep them occupied. We always take a backpack harness to keep a close eye on our boy while giving him a chance to run when he gets bored of the stroller(can find at Walmart, if you're unsure about harnesses recall the story of the little girl trapped in the bank vault recently, a close eye is safest in longrun), it helps to take someone else along as well, totally helps, good luck and Happy Mothers Day to all!
What makes a shopping trip enjoyable for me is going when the store just opens up in the morning, and without children. I can shop in peace, take my time browsing, and feel at ease.
Shop when you have the time to enjoy the experience fully, and make sure the family is well fed and watered before going!
I love that is a family store...one stop shopping. I like to go first thing on a Saturday morning, not crowded yet, the family isn't tired from shopping and I still have the enegry to try the clothes on.
If I'm shopping at Old Navy, I prefer to go alone so I have time to shop for all the kids without being rushed by them. I like to wear comfy shoes and a light jacket (or leave the jacket in the car) so that I'm not weighed down. And I love that Old Navy provide the bags - it makes things so much easier!
I look over the entire women's section making a mental note of what I want to try on and go back for those things after so I'm not toting them around while browsing. I only like going into the change rooms once with everything I like so I'm not one to take a few things in with me and come back out after and get more. Who wants to put their clothes back on over and over and go out and get more stuff? Not me. The last thing I do before going into the change rooms is I have a look through the clearance section because you can always find good bargains. I take all my treasures in with me and cross my fingers.
I stop for tea halfway through my shopping and feel revived for the last part of shopping.
Im always enjoying shopping with my husband and my daughter for me its one of the best quality time together. Aside from that im also enjoying shopping specially if everything inside the store are well organized, neat and clean..i really love it because its easy for me to find what i need for my family.
Shopping with good friends who share my love of shopping just the same as i do and getting some good advice is what makes my shopping trips extremly enjoyable :) not too mention shopping at old navy, your bound to find something you love everytime :)
The best part about shopping is getting to spend some quality with "YOURSELF"!!! I find it to be very relaxing, especially as I am not always rushed by husband or daughter. It gives me time to reconsider as many times as I want and not rush into a hasty decision. :)
SHOP WHEN YOU ARE ENERGETIC, ENTHUSIASTIC, AND RELAXED!
When I go shopping with family and friends I enjoy the how the employees at Old Navy are always helpful, kind and courteous. When We need to find a certain item they direct us to the area where it is and say "If there's anything else you need just ask!" It make me feel happy to know that there are other in the world who share their style and hospitiality to other, thats what make shopping enjoyable, when you need something all you have to do is ask!
I enjoy shopping the most by myself. This way I don't feel rushed and and nobody's clock but my own.
What makes shopping easier for me is taking my girls... ages 3 and 5. At Old Navy there is plenty for them to choose from which will last, there are always sizes and it's always neat. Colourful displays keep their attention and most of the time there are crayons and colouring books if they get tired. Bringing them is time to share time with them, have a laugh and be reminded why I love being a mom
Always take lots of snacks!
I always make sure I have my booklet of coupons at the ready should I see something that I can match. This makes the experience not only fun, but more of a hunting trip. The thrill of watching the total bill go down at the cash register is exhilarating, and is something I love to do while shopping at Old Navy!
Thanks :)
My most enjoyable shopping trips are with out the children. If I do have to bring the kids then it is a must that they have eaten recently and that we have snacks with us.
An enjoyable shopping experience is a place that is a one stop shop for me and my husband. My husband being a picky guy Old navy is where we always go, it has the european flare that he likes so most of his shopping is done there.... making it enjoyable, if he's happy im happy
Thanks :)
For me, leaving my 4 year old daughter at home, makes an enjoyable shopping trip. She is always hiding in between racks when I'm shopping, so shopping alone is always nice for a change! :)
Knowing what I need to get before I get there. Find the item, try it on, and get out as soon as possible. That's bliss :)
I take snacks and waterbottles for my kids. They are usually happy with something to eat and then I can shop in peace!
Most enjoyable for me is checking out the website ahead of time so I have an idea of what I want to get, leaving the baby at home and going when I can actually afford to spend and dont have to leave without stuff I really want.
When I go shopping I like to go alone or with a girlfriend. The thing I always bring is a snack and a juice box. I like to take my time and I find that I start to get hungry or tired halfway through a shopping trip. A small snack like a granola bar and a juice box keeps me going longer!
My tips for a happy shopping trip include (to Old Navy in particular)
Browse on line first and know what I'm looking for
Go alone
Carry a light purse so my shoulders don't ache
Asking for help from the staff if I can't find an item
Having my coupons handy at check out to take advantage of the great offers
Shop alone and have lots of free time!
I make sure that I have lots of time to shop. Shopping isn't enjoyable when you are in a hurry.
Make sure you have lots of time to shop. Shopping is no fun when you are in a hurry.
Visited last night for the first time in month. Easier to navigate and find things now, and it was much easier to use the dressing rooms.
I need to go on my own - definitely no husband pacing outside!
My tip for a good shpping trip is "Plan and organize what you want and where your going beforehand, as well as go early durring the week to minimize the number of people in the stores"
Best tip for a good shopping trip: Go alone or with someone you who really loves you.
They will forgive you for everything.
My best tip for a good shopping trip is "Go when you have time to shop and shop by your self or with a good friend who likes shop as well. Leave the kids at home. go early in the morning, less people this way..
I guess my best tip for making a shopping trip enjoyable is to make sure you're not with a big group because it usually cause a lot of problems. I would also make sure I would organize my day of shopping and make sure to go early in the morning to avoid the rush of people in the shopping centers.
I set out with a budget plus a little spare for something unexpected, but have to have. As well as an idea of a few pieces to spruce up my wardrobe. I find that helps me to focus on what I set out to buy and not buy everything I didn't necessarily need.
A cup of coffee and your best friend can make any shopping experience fun!!
The best way for me to shop is without my two boys. I do enjoy going with friends, but also love shopping by myself more. Last time I was at old navy I really thought the new change areas were a great concept.
In order to enjoy a shopping trip I need to by myself so I can look at things without feeling rushed. I have bought clothes that don't necessarily fit well because I have been rushed by my daughter and husband. Comfortable shoes are also a must.
Wear comfortable shoes and clothes that are easy/fast to change out of...efficiency!
My most enjoyable shopping trips are definetly alone, with NO kids!! It gives me time to actually be able to picture myself wearing the clothes that I purchase rather than having to hurry because the kids aren't listening or running around.
Of my 3 kids my middle child is the best shopper! I love taking her with me for bonding time. I love that I can buy clothes for all 5 people in my family plus gifts for nieces and nephews for amazing prices. I love that the kids pants all have adjustable waists and fun colours like orange and hard to find black for kids (for a funeral). All the clothes for me are comfortable and practical for running after toddlers but can be dressed up. I enjoy shopping early in the morning when the store opens to browse, try on items, quiet and no lines in check out but nothing beats boxing day and the thrill of the hunt during Old Navy big sale days!
Thank you for allowing me to dress my family on a budget and Happy Mother's Day to everyone.
I like to have a bit of an idea what I am shopping for, or at least what colour.
Comfortable shoes, I like to bring a pair of high heels in a bag with me.
And I never shop when I.m tired.
What I recommend is that you start your shopping trip stress free, meaning, leave early enough so you hvae a good parking spot, remember where you park - OR - take a bus or cab - OR - get someone to drop you off and pick you up. There is nothing more frustrating that trying to find a spot in a full lot and getting all worked up before getting into the stores.
Have an idea of what you are looking for, I always make a list, even if I am not sure what I am going to buy for sure - the list gives me a sort of guide as to where I want to look for sure and what I don't really care to see.
Have an idea of what I want to spend and do my very best not to go over it. I don't shop all the time, what I do is set a time to do my shopping and I really shop, but I think that makes it much more enjoyable as I get to spend more at one time, save it up until a certain sale date. I'm not saying don't shop, I'm saying shop organized and you will get sooooo much more out of it. Shopping is great, especially if you plan it out. Spontaneous shopping gets you into trouble every time. Know what you want, where you want to go, what you want to spend and take your time and spend and enjoy. Happy Shopping :o) Lissa
I find shopping to be most enjoyable when I bring a friend along. It's great to have someone who's opinion you trust to help decide whether or not to buy an item... and to encourage you to try on things you normally wouldn't!
My best tip for enjoyable shopping is to go when a store opens in the morning on a week day that is not a school holiday if you want space, quiet and no line-ups. If trying on clothes I recommend wearing ones to the store that are a fast slip on and off.
I LOVE Old Navy, it has the most amazing clothes for us chubby gals, and it's actually NICE style and sometimes sexy clothes, unlike other plus size clothing stores out there that had nothing but frumpy old lady clothes. lol
I am a mom to 4 boys, and I LOVE going shopping for hours by myself without having to worry about where they are, if they're running amok in the store/mall while I'm in the changing room. lol Been there, done that!! It's so calming..I sometimes even pick up a big ol' booster juice smoothie while walking around shopping to make it a lot more vaction-ny. LOL

shopping with mom or sister and having a good plan for lunch, gives me something else to look forward to.
I go shopping with no expectations. I just know that I am going to find a tresure amongst the sale racks. The more I can save, the more elated I am!
Having the children make their shop-list by clipping pics of what they want from flyers helps focus in the store.
I love to shop when I have the cash to buy, it is definitely easier when I have no one with me, but it is a catch 22 because I have no one to ask if it looks okay on me or what they think. I love to spend hours shopping, but unfortunately, the people I shop with like to just go in and then get what they need and leave!!
My best shopping is to go early in the morning to beat the afternoon crowds and you'll get first choice of all the deals :)
How do I sign up for the $250 shopping card at Old Navy? Thanks
I need $$ and time without the kids.
Nice large aisles that are equipped for the shopping carts with the child seats on them!! Easy Shopping and really enjoyable experience.
I like to shop alone or with my daughter and without any time limit
Enjoyable shopping for me means not being rushed,.,,.. having staff at stores help you when you need the help......and being around people who give off positive energy so the day is enjoyable!!
The thing that makes a shopping trip most enjoyable for me is: Actually having the money to pay for things! Being a mom on a low budget means looking for bargains and (if I'm lucky!) winning contests to stretch my budget to the maximum... :-D
Leave the kids at home!
Having enough time to shop that I don't have to rush.
Being tied and hungry puts an edge on shopping. If there is a store you want to spend time in, take a break before going in. Have a snack and sit for 15 minutes, hit the john and you will be more comfortable as well as the ones with you. It's amazing how your view of items change when you are in a good mood.
When my kids were small I would always make sure to take a snack and toys along for them, but now that they're bigger I tend to go shopping without them when possible. Pre-teen boys don't really like shopping for women's clothes, and it's more fun for all of us if they are with friends or theír grandparents.
This one I only know so well!!!! If shopping with kids tagging behind they tend to be hungry alot of the times so... Always, always, always have a list/or at least mentally tucked away back in your mind of what you need to get, and where you need to go to get it so that you are not running like a chicken with your head cut off trying to find stores or items. When the kids are tagging along, and they become hungry like most kids do it makes for an undesirable amount of stress and frustration that really could be avoided if you plan a bit ahead of time.
Go shopping first thing in the morning when you have lots of energy and have eaten breakie.
Make sure I am well rested and fed.
There are so many tips and so little time, but here are a couple:
- take a list
-if you have to take your children, have some activities, colouring books, etc. so they don't get bored as easily...a snack is always good too.
-if you are shopping for yourself...make sure you are wearing the proper undergarments. For example, I like to wear spanx underneath any of my slimmer jeans or shirts...if I think I will be looking for something of that nature, I always wear my spanx. If I think I might be trying on many different styles of shirts, I will wear a beige strapless bra, so that it will accomodate most shirts I may try on. There is nothing worse than trying to see if you like a shirt when your bra is hanging out, or you can see it through your shirt.
Go with what you want in mind but be open to items on sale.
For me to enjoy my shopping trip I need the stores to be spacious, I find some stores are so crowded that when I do go with my children its hard to enjoy it, I also find it enjoyable to go with a friend who gets excited over the littlest things like me.
leave lots of time so you are not rushed
My tip is to take more then one size into the fitting room, I normally bring in three sizes(one bigger, one smaller, one regular) this way if the shirt isnt right you already have the sizes you may need, it takes a lot of the stress out of trying to get someone to find the size for you, or having to run through the store yourself to find it.
Comfortable shoes, a list of what you are looking for, adn wear easy on and off clothes so there is no hassle! Somewhere for my hubby to sit so he can give me an opinion
Shop during the day (when it's slightly emptier) and check out the sale racks!
shopping with my daughter, to look younger with the clothes I buy
Make friends with the sales people - they know what's where, and you don't! Treat them nicely (find out their names, and use them, as in "Thank you, Suzy"and they'll find the bargains for you).
I love shopping at Old Navy. They have a great selection of all sizes. I find the clothes fit true to size for my boys. Always polite staff. The last time I went I got some fantastic savings.
I like to go either in the morning or in the evening, midweek when it is not so busy.
If you bring your kids keep the trip short. Cranky kids = no fun!
It's only when I'm not looking for something specific that I enjoy shopping.
You have to be dressed for shopping...comfortable shoes and clothes that are easy to get in and out of in the dressing room.
You have to give yourself lots of time to brouse adn enjoy the experience.
My girlfriends and I get together and first have breakfast, then we're ready for a power shopping trip! Energized and have a great time.
I enjoy shopping with my daughter and Old Navy is one of our favorite places to shop. There are a few coffee shops in the same mall as Old Navy and we try and make our shopping trip more pleasant by enjoying a latte and sweet treat together!!
