A Winner from Santa...and Maybe for You!

xbox2.jpg
There are very few gifts that Santa can bring that will satisfy all three of my kids. Quite often poor Santa is left scrambling to find something for the tween boy who is sports crazy, something else for my 10 year old son who likes the coolest gear and games, and another something for my 6 year old daughter, who likes dolls, stuffed animals and books.

Last year, Santa scored a home run when he brought all three of them an Xbox 360 console with Kinect. We'd had a very old gaming system for about five years, so just coming into the 21st century with the Xbox was exciting enough, but have you seen Kinect? Kinect is fun on a whole new level. It's controller-free gaming, which uses amazing camera sensors to allow your body to play the game, race the race, or battle the dark side. There is no remote required

The boys were excited to finally have a console so that they could play all of the games they'd tried out at friends' houses. Very quickly my oldest was playing NCAA Football, where he could not only play games, but follow the path of a young quarterback starting out at university and eventually getting drafted to the NHL.

Both boys were making up "dream teams" in NHL11 consisting not only of their favourite NHL players, but also the teammates from their own hockey teams.

My daughter loved her Kinectimals. It helped that it came with its own little stuffed animal version of the friendly cheetah pal that she could play with in the Kinect game. Pretty soon she was "virtually" petting its stomach, tossing a ball for it to retrieve and feeding her new pet.

What surprised me, though, was how much the entire family enjoyed the Kinect Sports game. We are not a "gamer" family, but pretty soon we were spending evenings together with our Xbox and Kinect, horseback riding, downhill skiing and figure skating in the basement. Kinect provides an amazingly even playing ground, and my 6 year old daughter delighted in being able to kick the soccer ball by her older brothers in net.

Playdates have become a breeze; even with more than 2 friends, it's almost as entertaining watching your pals playing Kinect as it is playing yourself!

This year Santa's got a very easy time shopping for the kids...my daughter's asking for Disneyland Adventures, the newest game from Kinect, and my boys are asking for NFL12 for Xbox and Kinect Sports, Season 2.

This year Xbox and UrbanMoms would like to bring your family together over the holiday season the old fashion way...playing games!!  You could be the winner of one of two Xbox 360 with Kinect including the games Disneyland Adventures and Kinect Sports Season 2.  To enter to win simply comment and tell us what was your families favourite game to play when you were growing up.

When I was a young child I loved to play school. If we visited relatives for the weekend we would always play a marathon game of monopoly. I don't think I ever won but it was fun. Now, while the children do play the occasional board game, my son is all about the XBOX shooting games. His dad and a sister help him out with the dreaded zombie infestation. Me, I avoid looking at the screen.

my favourite game was the game of Life for sure! Others were twister, monopoly, and cards

My favorite game for my family when I was a kid was Mario brothers, the whole family would play.It was the funniest when my mom or dad had the controller they thought if you actually jumped up with it M
ario would move with you,now we have Wii,so it is perfect for them.

We I was young our favorite game had to be snakes and ladders, then when video games came out it was asteroids on the Colecovision

i just saw this game in a vintage shop and the memories hit me like a ton of bricks...the pinocchio game! you have to turn pinocchio into a boy again. very good memories from that. i'd play it by myself all the time!

Growing up I loved to play house and store. I would set up the cash register and make everyone buy my toys from me. :) Then we got Nintendo old school for my 8th birthday present, I remember my parents and their friends playing track and field on the mat on the floor, duck hunt. It was a source GREAT entertainment for the WHOLE family, there were games my sister and I could play together which wasn’t easy to find given that we had an 11 year age difference. I love watching my kids and my niece and nephew now play on the Wii together, these gaming systems seem to lessen the age differences.

We love to play uno as a family. Sometimes just the adults played. Sometimes the adults and kids played together.

We would play a variety of board games with our parents. This is a tradition I can't wait to share with our little guys as they become old enough. Family game night will be a regular part of our routine one day.

Well, there was so many great times as a kid! But a few that stick out the most are. School the whole block played, but the teacher was always the same, the oldest girl on the block by two years! We also recv'd a colecovision one Christmas we were thrilled! Also one time I set up a "yard sale" in my bedroom so parents could shop...tee hee! But what ever you play with friends and family, your just making memories! I didn't know that then, but I do now!

When I was a kid, we usually play hide and seek, hopscotch, or Japanese garter. There's no electronic games yet. Now, my kids love to play games with the Wii, DS, or PSP. When we get together with the relatives, the kids always play games in the XBox.

When I was a kid we'd play Monopoly as a family and it scarred me for life, lol. I still refuse to play it as I have memories of what a terrible sport I was.

For us, it was playing cards. Family favourites were crib (yes, I was taught at a young age :) ) and 31. To this day, at family gatherings, the cards come out and everyone plays. I especially like that we play for quarters... sometimes I come home with a pocket full of change!

Mousetrap and Operation were my favorites : )

When I was growing up we didn't play games. My parents worked shift work. Mom worked in "processing" at the bank over nights and dad did cancer research during the days. With our upbringing we actually had to practice piano and study all the time. Don't worry, it wasn't sad times, we just didn't know and it's cultural. However, with MY kids now we love all sorts of family game times! Bingo, Blokus, Scrabble, and cards!

We only had one game!....Monopoly..........so that was it!

Life and CandyLand were definitely two of my favourite board games growing up but my sister and I also were very imaginative and creative. We had a dining room and living room in our childhood home and it was divided with two sliding doors. We would dress up and develop short plays, sing and dance and entertain our parents on many weekends, especially in the winter.

I'm glad that my 6 year old is balanced in her play - we make sure to divide up her time in front of the computer and time spent on video games, with creative play - drawing, painting, crafts and using imagination.

Thanks for the amazing contest! Good luck to all!

When I was a kid my favourite games to play were Monopoly and Boggle. I still enjoy both these games as an adult and look forward to when my children are old enough to play with me!

My sister and I used to have a great board game that was based on a Shopping Mall. We also used to play with Fashion Plates (remember those?) and paper dolls a lot. Now we each have 2 boys and there isn't a doll to be found anywhere. They sure would love an Xbox Kinect!

Bingo at the cottage with all our cousins. The tradition is still going strong thanks to my sister who gave our father a retro bingo set forChristmas a few years ago.

My favourite was Hungry Hungry Hippos, though we didn't have it at home. I had to go to my friend's to play. I also played a ton of Mario Cart and Super Mario Brothers with my dad when visiting him on the weekends.

We couldn't really afford games or toys so when i was in highschool i made some money and bought the Nintendo that came with Super Mario Bros. I was also able to later buy Super Mario Bros 3. I only had those 2 games but i loved em!! I wasn't very good at other games anyways.

When I was young I loved playing board games like monopoly, pay day etc, they were so much fun, especially since I was an only child, playing them meant that I had friends over and that was a great time for me.

The other tied game was playing rummy (cards) with my childhood bestfriend. Her dad was a fisherman and when he was due to come home from a long term trip we'd have a sleepover at hers - with no sleeping! I thank the lord that I have family who do have these game consoles for the kids to play (in particularly, my son; because he is the only one of age who can actually play).

When I was a kid, Milton Bradley board games were what we did as a family. After our big Sunday night dinner, we would sit around the table playing Monoply, MouseTrap, Operation. We built hours of memories this way and now XBox will be doing the same with the Kinect system. It's a family time activity for the whole family.

One of my favourite games was a commedore 64 game called Fast Food. The food scrolled up and down and you had to make a meal. My kids would think it is soooooo lame....oh if I only had it!!

Duck Hunt, it was one of our only games and it was a blast!

Our favorite game growing up was Hungry Hippos. My brother, sister and I would play that game day and night. I don't know how my parents survived having that game in our house. It was SO loud. Still to this day, I have no idea how my mother allowed such a game to enter our house. My mom's big on "pay-back", so maybe I should "shake" the gifts under her tree to see if our family will be given Hungry Hippos this year. Yah................Merry Christmas to us!!!!

They love the game and now all the parents are thanking me since their children want it for Christmas and it's difficult to find! I also taught them cribbage and they love that too. These have also been favourites of my own children at home. This proves that good games never die and are worth revisiting.

We were a large family (well, larger than most of my friends) - with family always stopping by. There was my older brother and sister, and my younger brother, and a cousin or two thrown in for fun. During really cold winter days, or when the rain was too much to go out to play, we would invent games to play. These games usually included a lot of running around our small furnished living room, with a fair amount of jumping on the furniture! These games also had to be played when mom was out =) My personal favourite was Pirates. One person was Captain and shouted out directions - "Jump to Port" or "Hard to Starboard". Last person to the designated area was "out". The last one to be playing became the next captain. It was great fun, exercise and usually ended with us all in a mess in the middle.

we use to always play uno or monopoly. It was always great fun!

When I was a kid we loved to play sports outside like hockey in the winter, baseball in the summer.

So many games I enjoyed as a kid. I remember going down to the corner store when they had video games inside, and I would play Wonder Boy for hours. I almost beat it. I tried and tried. Then the store closed. Then we got a Sega Genesis system. Sonic was the game to beat. I successfully beat Sonic 1 and 2. What a great feeling that is lol. My favorite game growing up was Monopoly.

When I was a kid, I played Snakes 'n' Ladders with my Dad, and Monopoly and Life with my grandmother. One particular game of Life still sticks in my memory. I landed on every "baby block" and ended up with too many pegs to fit in the little car. It was quite entertaining picking all my "kids" up off the road every time I had to move my car :)

We used to play pictionary as a family - that was my favorite - but my brother hated it. My brother and I loved to play super mario together and the simpson game for snes.

We'd play for hours and hours and of course we can't forget the grudge matches - I still brag about being unbeaten in Risk. When my siblings and I get together we still challenge each other to some sort of game or another...so I'd love to start a new tradition - Wanna play Kinects - bet I can beatcha...I know we'll laugh!! Happy Holidays!

Well as a child my mom didnt play many games with me but once and a while when i got her to play it was almost always snakes and ladders or the classic monopoly. When I was growing up, my favorite game was Monopoly. I grew up when video games were just becoming a must have for children. Our parents were unable to afford them, so we were board gamers. Monopoly is, and most likely always will be my favorite game. My brother and I pretty much dominated the board against our two sisters. He and I were very competitive against each other. In other games to like checkers, and when we finally got a Playstation, we were the lead competitors in Tekken. But when it comes down to it, we would be laughing ecstatically at each other in Monopoly because we were both determined to win and it was the best times. I'm tearing up with laughter right now. Think I'm going to give him a call and invite him over for one of those games.

The first video game I remember was Duck Hunt. Usually though we played cards and my favorite was Rook.

My favorite game when I was a young child was PAYDAY ! such a fun game, great way to learn the value of a dollar.

We loved to play Trivial Pursuit and I remember us all playing cribbage up at the cottage too.

This game might be off the beaten track, but my 4 siblings and I would sit on the Peace River ferry landing dock and watch for rising fish. When one would spot it, they would have to name the species it was then say WHY they thought it was that speicies due to its feeding habits (ie - sipping flies off surface instead of doing a finning motion) With 5 species to pick from and alot of fish moving in that river, it really taught us alot about fish behavior as kids:)

my nephew currently plays the old version xbox, imagine him playing the newer xbox 360 with kinect lol.

I had a Nintendo game console as a kid, lots of fun since I lived on a farm and only had 3 tv channels to watch. Had alot of outside chores to do but managed to sneak in time to play Nintendo. I have three boys and they have wanted, asked, begged for an XBOX for 3 years now... so If I were to win it, then I would look at it like it was "meant to be"..lol.

My first fond memory of playing games with my parents is a traditional korean game played much like pictionary except the person must draw as he/she was blindfolded. So many good memories from playing it for hours with my parents. It was even more fun when all of our other families came to play.

I didn't have any games when I was a child! (: Would of probably been nice though!

All of the neighbourhood kids would come outside and play hide and seek.

When I was a kid my family enjoyed playing Super Pong! Kind of pales in comparison to today's video games. :)

When i was a kid we use to play the old xbox or atari as a family, or we would play games like uno, monopoly and etc which i loved. I make sure my family has a game night once a week and this would make a great addition to game night.

My favourite boad game was Monopoly and I could play in for hours with the cousins. Another favourite was gin rummy. All you needed was a deck of cards and you could have fun for hours. I think those games were more sociable than the games of today played on computer screens.

Monopoly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Being the parent of two boys who are hockey crazy, the constant game through the years was the latest NHL video game from EA. Every year they had to have the new version and would play it and play it. I would play them but would get smoked of course which was always good for a laugh.

We used to play Risk all weekend long marathons. It was incredible we had a standing Friday night Risk game for over a year and I would always host. Terrific gaming friendships!

I was the oldest of 6 so there was almost always someone to play with and for the younger ones, I looked after them and read to them. Us older ones played school, house, Monopoly, Sorry, Trouble things like that. My Mom tried to teach me Crib when I was too young so she had someone to play with; it took me until I met my future husband to learn :)

When we were little on car rides Mom use to play I spy with my little eye with us, And at home Tag or Hiden and seek.. But when my Dad was home from work we would take turns playing Checkers and that was a load of fun, He never let us win so when we started beating we knew we had finally mastered checkers. Doesnt sound like much but it helped us with thinking things out and planiing.

I loved board games and "Guess Who" was a favourite!

We used to play Monopoly all the time, and sometimes Risk.

I had many favourite games as a child and none of them involved a computer...;0) Yes I am surely getting old....I loved playing hide and seek, and I spy as I loved being outside.

Inside, I played checkers, crazy eights with cards of course, monopoly very often and battleship with my sister. We used to have a family game night every Saturday complete with chips, dip, cheesies, popcorn and pop. We were never allowed to eat that sort of thing any other day except Saturday so we had a great old time. Ah, reminiscing-it almost brings a tear to my eye.

I remember playing hide and seek in the dark in our unfinished basement. The best!

MAX AND RUBY fans in this household.

My brother always had gaming systems so whenever he wasn't home or not playing with his Nintendo, I used to always go in and play Super Mario, all those games will always be on my fav list!

My family's favourite game was Monopoly. It amused all of us for hours.

My brothers and I used to play games with our grandmother every day after school. We had many favourites but my favourite was called Rack-O. I loved that game and still do!! Every time my family plays it I miss my grandmother... :)

My sisters and I used to play an old marble game called Cross Over the Bridge. We still have it, so now MY daughters play it.

Growing up with an older brother, our favourite game was definitely Crossbows & Catapults! We also figured out a way to play My Little Pony and GI Joe together....although most times it ended with my ponies being taken hostage by the 'Joes'!!!

Growing up we loved to play Payday and Life. Remember hours stretched out on the floor with sister, or friends working our way around the board giggling in Life at one having 9 children trailing behind the car while others only had one or none. Was a great way to spend the afternoon. Hoping to incorporate some of these into our family game nights!

Not sure what my favorite was, but I remember playing Snakes and Ladders.

Well, my favourite game when I was a kid has got to be Super Mario Bros., hands down! Even my mom (god bless her) would play with me and I got to tell you I think she was more hooked then I was. The funniest part was she would jump around with the controller as if it would make Mario or Luigi do the same thing......lol.

Starting from when the snow hit the ground, my Mom and Dad would dig out the old table top hockey game (the ones with the metal men). We'd have hours of fun playing tournaments.

I think my favouritre childhood game was Minute's Limit. You write down all the letters of the alphabet (leave out Q and X if you're playing with younger children), cut them up and put them in a hat. Then everyone writes down some agreed-upon categories like Cities, First Names, Foods, Animals, etc. Pull a letter out of the hat and everyone has one minute to think of something in each category that starts with that letter. It's awesome!

Now we love boards games like Bananagrams, and Risk.

Oh man, when I was a child, my favourite game that my sisters and I would play would play is house, although we used to call it "house house". We would dress up, and pretend to be neighbours, we would talk about items of food on sale at local store. And the funniest moment ever is, when we would make our youngest sister our family pet....hahahaha she always got stuck being the family dog!! (My sisters and I are horrible), but we look back at those days and laugh hysterically, including my youngest sister.

I'll never forget the day my older brother brought home the 2600 from Atari! It was the first time I had ever played a video game, and I LOVED IT!! Asteroids was my favorite right from the beginning!

Seems like yesterday!

With my older brothers, our game was RISK -- I loved kicking their butts and conquering the world! (insert evil laughter here! haha) I have 2 boys of my own now and it's time we entered the world of XBOX 360 -- I can see us having an absolute BLAST playing it together! Thank you so much for the chance to win one! :o) Merry Christmas!

Monopoly was the family game of choice. We'd played into the wee hours of the morning.

When I was a kid we did a lot of making up our own games, we loved to "paint the fence" with water and old brushes, or we'd pretend to play "frogger" by running between the swings on the playground. As I got older we'd play Boggle or Monopoly, and went through a stage where we played a lot of chess. When we got an "Odyssey 2" our favorite game was Pickaxe Pete. Eventually we got a Commodore 64, we loved a Mickey Mouse game even if loading each stage took about 5 minutes, lol. Played a lot of Wolfenstein on the old pc as a teenager :) and now we love to get together to play Rock Band at a friends house!

Was hoping to get the family an Xbox for Christmas this year, but had a regular client cancel for the whole month and had to use the money to pay bills instead :p Ah well, such is life... a chance to win one is AWESOME!!!

My favourite video game was Frogger for Atari.

My favourite game was Battleship.

My Favourite game was Monopoly!

I used to love playing cards with my mom

Theone game I remember playing was Nintendo ping pong. My brother and I loved that game but I also remember being told not to play it too long or else the picture would stick on our tv screen!

Comadore 64!! enough said lol

My favourite game was Monopoly and Sorry... would play for hours and hours with friends...

When I was a kid I loved playing Yatzee! When I was a pre-teen I loved Super Mario

i loved playing donkey kong on the colecovision...I would like to find one of those now to show my kids actually

My favourite was Space Armada, I was hooked!

My favorite game was Sorry--my brothers and sister and I would play for hours. Brings back fun memories.

My favourite game was 'poo sticks' ! What's 'poo sticks' I hear you say ?

'Poo sticks' is where you are standing on a bridge that's over a stream or river, you each pick up a stick (or leaf, but small sticks are recommended) and at the count of 3, you each drop your stick off of one side of the bridge. You then all rush over to the other side of the bridge and the winner is the person whos stick you see first !! It's a great game that kids will play for hours, as finding the perfect 'poo stick' is crucial if you want to win.

I now play this with my kids and they love it. But I feel that they're getting to an age where 'poo sticks' will not keep them entertained for long periods of time, plus......our long, cold Candian winters kind to stop us from playing it for half of the year. XBOX Kinect bundle = happy winter days in my household. ;o)

Favourite game was super mario, monopoly, and hungry hungry hippo.

When I was growing up, we loved monopoly and a child's version of scrabble. My older brother usually won the games, but on occasion I would be the winner and I was happy for days. I still enjoy both games today with my children.

I loved Hot Wheels

Monopoly especially over the christmas holidays

Snakes and Ladders was my favourite game when I was a kid. I'm I dating myself, oh well!

My favorite game growing up was Hide and Seek! I still love to play it with my little girl :)

For me it was snacks and ladders and playing cards with my parents.

My siblings and I loved card games. Especially Uno, Racko and more traditional games like War, Go Fish or Solitare.
Battleship, Yatzee, Guess Who and Scrabble were also big hits in our house.
My sister was actually the one who was really into games - she always won (and I was always the sore loser .... lol )
Best of luck to all who have entered the contest!

our favourite game to play was actually rummy. we'd play with grandma and grandpa for hours when they visited us or us them. actually, even now some 20 years later, cards are still my favourite thing to play with.

We always had a great supply of board games and it's hard to pick a favourite but I think I'd go with Scrabble.

Maybe this makes me a nerd but my favourite game was playing Uono with my grandma while listening to the blue jays game on the radio. I miss my grandma so much:(

when I was growing up we had a lot of board games my family would play, our favourite was SORRY!

We used to play a lot of card games in our house: Crazy Eights, Rummy, Hearts, Poker.

Tetris, the whole family played. It was the first and only game my husband could beat my son in. My son couldn't believe it. lol

Scrabble and Cribbage. I loved to play these as well as Yahtzee

My favourite family game as a child was Monopoly and Scrabble... I loved playing them with my family, friends.

Monopoly was always my favorite game as a child. The game sometimes lasted for days because we didn't quit until someone was out of money. Games have changed so much now. I think the Kinectimals for the XBox would be a winner with my grandchildren. I could see them just loving it.

i commented on this previously stating monopoly was the favorite game. I would like to revise the by saying it was the favorite at the cousins but at home it was cards - crazy eights, go fish, then onto crib, a great way to get children to add their numbers, rummy rummoli, pass the ace, then the game for the adults , euchre. Now with my own family we play many cards games, the old standards and a few weird new ones with questionable rules and names.

We played Checkers and Clue and we were children of the 80s-90s so Im not trying to date myself with those answers.

We love to play cards with our family a game called 31

The Family's favourite game to play when growing up...hmm...had a few...a ties between Happy Days board game and Monopoly

I remember playing Monopoly with my parents...I'll have to say it was my favourite!

Loved Operation...That buzz when you missed was high tech back then !!

Our game was Monopoly. But it never failed, we'd get bored and either I'd loan my sister money if she fell on hard times or my brother would hide $500 notes under the board and pull them out at the end..haha

Atari 2600 was our game system. We'd play Pacman, Circus Circus, and other games.

twister was our favourite game

Growing up, we loved to play rummoli.

Growing up my favourite gaming system was Atari and I played PacMan & Asteroids like crazy. I am a contest and gaming guru and my kids are the same. The love the challenge and we love to play as a family. The competition heats up in our house!!!!!

WHen the weather was bad we would have marathon Monopoly games, scrabble was always a favorite and plenty of card games depending on the age of the kids playing.

as a child, teenager and even as an adult my absolute favourite game is "Rummykub"

Growing up, I loved playing baking and cooking! I had a full set up in the backyard with a kitchen, tables and chairs. My mom would give me flour, water, milk, sprinkles, and I would make up some mixes, place them in my little oven...during that, my mom would sneak up and bake my goods for me...they always turned out as hard as a brick...but my mom always had fresh cookies as a back up for me and my friends to enjoy after an afternoon of baking!

Operation... should have been a Dr...

My favorite game was battleship.

hide and seek or kick the can.. got you outside but any game thats gets people moving is awesome and gets ana okay by me:)

My kids would love this. It would so awesome to win. Thanks

My favorite game growing up was trouble.

When I grew up, we did'nt have any electronic games, but I did have a ping pong table and we had a lot of fun and some pretty damn good competitors

When I was growing up my favourite game was the board game Sorry-it was the togetherness that appealed to me,and the combination of skill and luck-anybody could win.

Monopoly was my favourite, I could play this by the hour

we loved playing PayDay when I was growing up!

I loved playing Operation...the little parts and steady hand...I beat my brother every time!

Name that Tune! Many a road trip or family work project was livened up by my Dad humming a song from the endless repetoire in his head. I got 10 cents for every song I got right. I know a lot of 60s folk songs as a result :) It was a lot of fun and became somewhat profitable as I got older.

my sister and i loved playing monopoly - now that i think about it i don't know why i loved it so much, she always won...hmmmm

We didn't spend much time together as a family. Mom was a nurse and my father never spent time with us. But I did spend a lot of time in lessons; choir, swimming, voice, girl guides, and piano. Having 3 boys in competitive sports I am equally as busy now as I was when I was a kid, but we try to carve out time to play card games like President and pass the ace as a family once a week. We have a nice dinner & then pull out the cards.

We used to play all of the old Atari 2600 games (Pac Man, even though it was rather horrible) and Commodore 64 games. Tetris on the C64 was a favourite.

My favorite game was mario when I was growing up

we played and still play Monopoly and used to play Snake and Ladders a lot.

My sisters and I loved to play Monopoly.

My fave game to play when I was a kid was Donkey Kong Country 2 for Super Nintendo! I still play it.....lol.

Super Mario Bros for Nintendo!

We loved Aggravation. It seemed that everyone had one of those then! Like others, I now feel the need to search for one! Love the reminder. Thanks!

My mom and I used to have marathon Monopoly games when my father was traveling. We had games that stretched on over a few nights. It brings back fond memories to think of that!
My daughter is now 4 and loves to play games, I can't wait to make family game night memories with her!!
