I've been test driving the newest offering from Kobo for just under a week now and I am a huge fan.
First of all, it was so pretty when I pulled it out of the box! Bright pink trim (also available in other colours), quilted back, 7 inch multimedia screen.
Second, it's so easy to start using it. I plugged it into the charger unit, and it immediately started to work. I already had a Kobo account from a much earlier version, and when I entered my account information, all of my library downloaded in minutes. The charge takes approximately 20 minutes and holds for about five hours.
And it's fun! So fun! Make no mistake, this is not a full-fledged tablet (at $179.99 you couldn't ask for that), but it's so much more than just an e-reader! It's WiFi enabled and has Facebook, Gmail and a web browser installed. You can also download any of the 15,000 Android apps (most of them are free).
So who could use a Kobo Vox? Hmmm....let's see...
Soccer Mom
Sitting on the sidelines of soccer game after game can be tedious, even if your little soccer star can bend it like Beckham. With the Kobo Vox you can catch up on your reading or entertain younger siblings. I made it through a baseball double header undisturbed while my daughter played Angry Birds and Cut the Rope.
Commuter Mom
On any given day you can find me complaining about missing the bus or subway delays. This week I've reveled in extended commuting time because it's just more time with my Kobo Vox. I've finished two novels, and downloaded magazines and newspapers as back up!
Sociable Mom
Do you have a mom who loves interacting with her friends on Facebook? The Kobo Vox comes with a fun social reading experience that lets you update your friends on just what books you're reading (or not...maybe you don't want everyone to know that you've finished the first two books of the Shades of Grey trilogy in 24 hours!). You can also use the installed software to highlight book sections, look up a word, or leave a bookmark.
Tutor Mom
Trying to get your kids to read more? Kobo comes pre-installed with a fun interactive full-colour Franklin book that the kids can choose to have read to them, or read along by moving their finger on the touch screen. If you've checked out the Kobo site, you know there are all sorts of childrens' books available, and there are many educational apps for Android available too.
Social Media Mom
Update your Facebook status, check your email, sent a Tweet, watch a video on YouTube, listen to the radio...do it all on your Kobo Vox. My own mother has just entered the age of cell phones and texting, but if she got her hands on this Kobo, she'd be a social media addict in no time at all (hmmm...maybe I'll just buy her a nice bouquet for Mother's Day!).
Basically, the Kobo Vox would make a wonderful Mother's Day gift for any mother, and they're specially priced right now for Mother's Day. Regularly $199.99, they're available for a limited time only at $179.99.
Our friends at Kobo have been kind enough to offer one Kobo Vox to a lucky UrbanMoms member. Just leave me a comment below telling me the last great book you read, and I'll randomly draw a lucky winner on Sunday May 13.

I not long ago finished the Fablehaven Series by Brandon Mull. It's fantasy and it's a young person's series but I really enjoyed all of them (there's 5 in total). It's nice to have some easy reads every now and then. :)
The last good book I read was "Jackie After O".
I finally read Girl With The Dragon Tattoo & as difficult as the 1st 100 pages are, I really really loved it after that! I'm now working on Girl Who Played With Fire, and am enjoying it just as much.
i accidentally read the 3rd book first so i know how it all ends but i'm now on book one...The Strain by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. this ain't your pretty boy, sparkly, vampire book. this is full on, no soul, don't care, eat your head take over the world vampire book. RAAARRRRR!
just finished read New York - great historical book about the life of this great city. Now give me the Kobo lady! :p
Elsie
The last great book I read is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I just finished it last night, and now can't wait to see the movie!
I'm on a quest to read award nominees and winners lately. I just finished The Sense of an Ending. I'm working on The Sisters Brothers. Both are excellent.
For One More Day by Mitch Albom. Hard to believe a sportswriter could right such a touching, sensitive story. Inspiring to read and equally beautiful to re-read.
I just finished reading The Goodbye Quilt by Susan Wiggs. It really is a "mother-daughter" story. The daughter is leaving to start University and the mother is feeling that she will be losing their special mother daughter relationship. As they drive the long distance from their home to the dorm they spend time talking about their relationship and life in general. It is a very touching story. The mother has made the daughter a "Goodbye Quilt" with momentos of the daughter's life to 18.
The last book I read was The Art of War...I subscribe to the occasional podcast, and one in particular mentioned the book in relation to business strategy. So I went and got it (be warned, it's not for the faint of heart); was dry in some areas, but if you read it, and think about it, it might come in handy one day.
I'm currently reading a book called "Fruit" by Brian Francis and I am thoroughly enjoying it! It's all about a young teenage boy and the crazy things that always seem to befall him- I'm finding it quite hilarious and it relates so much to what I remember about being that age. It's a gem that I stumbled upon by accident and I'm so glad that I did.
I just finished reading "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and I did get to see the movie. I much prefered the read! The book has so much more insight to what the characters are feeling and thinking.
I just finished reading _Half-Blood Blues_ by Esi Edugyan which was a lot of fun. I was impressed with the tone of the novel, which is set in Germany and Montmartre during WWII as well as Baltimore in 1992, and the consistency of her portrayal of the male jazz musician characters. I thought she really handled their vernacular and joking-around well.
My sister has been harassing me to read The Hunger Games but I'm currently reading Wardrobe and March so no time to start a new one yet.
I've just finished reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Girl who Played with Fire, and I'm currently reading The Girl who Kicked the Hornets Nest, they have all been excellent.
A Cook's Tour
I read "Bandit" - a great Canadian novel by Wayne Tefs!
Several years late to the party but the last great book I read was The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown.

I recently read the Book of Negroes which was a present from a family member. Although I wouldn't have chosen it myself, it certainly was worth reading.
I just reread Exodus by Leon Uris. The first time I read it when I was around 14 & I wanted to see if it would still hold me as spellbound as then. It did.

I just finished reading the 3 series of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. By far my favourite was the second book.
The last book I read was Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. Great book :-)
THE SISTERS BROTHERS l by Patrick deWitt. It is a western style book which is not a genre I usually read but this is an excellent book, gritty and full of the usual old west stereotypes yet it introduces you to Eli who is certainly a villain but one who struggles to become the better person he believes he was born to be.
I just finished reading the Hunger Games series
The last great book I read was The Swiss Family Robinson by Johann David Wyss. It is a fascinating story and one I plan to read with my son again..

Reading "The Leopard" by Jo Nesbo. He's the new Stieg Larsson, so anyone who loved the Dragon Tattoo series, should definately read this series!
The last great book I read was The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsay.
The Nanny diaries.
Well as I have several books (Harlequin Romances) on the go at any given time, I usually finish about 3 books a week. I just finished Slow Hands, A Rare Find, and More than one Night. I am constantly reading and encourage my daughters to do so also. My youngest is reading The Hunger Games.
Fifty Shades of Grey...AWESOME!!!!
I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella. It was a fun read. I couldnt put the book down. I think I finished it in 2 days.
The EveryGirl`s Guide to Life by Maria Menounos
- Great little tips on so many things: makeup, fashion, home décor & organization and so much more. It was a light read, with high quality pages, demo pics and packed so much of the different features I love in a good book in one place. Great to pick up whenever this busy mom has a few minutes to enjoy.
I am really not the reader, last books I read was the Twighlight series.... If I was lucky enough to be picked in this draw... the Kobo Vox would be a gift to my mom.... love her and she reads alot! :)
The last great book I read was Catherine The Great by Robert K. Massie. It was full of history which I enjoy and Catherine was a very intelligent, strong woman, ahead of her time!
Waterfall Trilogy by Lisa Bergren. A great trilogy for any age reader from 12-92. Romance, time travel, history all in one... the Kobo Vox would be so great as I had one, but my son accidentally cracked the screen a month after I got it. So sad!
Lone Wolf by Jodi Picoult. I have yet to read a book of hers that hasn't been absolutely fantastic!
I just finished The Vow - loved it!
My daughter got me hooked on the Hunger Games series so the last book I read was Mockingjay.
My Children and I are on the last chapter of My Doggie and I
by Robert Michael Ballantyne. What a wonderful book.

The Hunger Games. Both my daughter and i really enjoyed this book and then we were the first to see the movie.
Just finished two fabulous and completely different books.
Ruling Passion by Alyxandra Harvey is a delightfully funny young adult book about the Drake Family of Vampires. Has a Buffy feel to it and no tacky Twilight stuff. Author is Canadian
In the Shadow of the Banyan by Vaddey Ratner: An beautifully written, absorbing tale about a 7 yr old girl and her experiences amid the Cambodian Killing Fields. Its a tough read but inspiring and hopeful
An awsome book that I've recently read is "In Search of April Raintree" it is about an aboriginal girl who tries to make it in the aboriginal world while dealing with all the hardships of the aboriginal life.
I read Room by Emma Donoghue
it was very touching and full of hope.
I have been dying to try an e-reader. ( really I love the feel of turning pages ) but i am getting to the point where I need more shelf room! The last book I read was Charlaine Harris's Dead Reckoning ( you may recall the True Blood series?) It would be fun to be able to keep up with the series and also keep up with the times- my kids all think I am behind.!
One of my favourite books this year has been Lone Wolf by Jodi Picoult and The Winter Palace...love virtual book clubs...
Walden by Henry David Thoreau is my favourite, and a book work revisiting every few years.
The last book I read and finished was John Grisham's Callico Joe.... I'm such a sucker for his vacation reads and he can do no wrong in my books!
I'm about 2/3 of the way through 1Q84... it's an amazing story, but man-oh-man is the book dense! At 925 pages, carrying this thing around harkens back to my university days and those mammoth textbooks!
Hmmm, come to think of it, 1Q84 would be the perfect book to read on the Kobo Vox!!!
It was awhile ago but I loved 'The Strain' triology. Havent enjoyed anything as much recently!
I read The Hunger Games, just to see what all the fuss was about.
The single girls list was a really fun girlie book . Can't remember the Authors name but the book was a fun light read.
Last week I finished 'Before I go to Sleep'. Would recommend it. Love to read. This Kobo sounds ideal. I'd sure be able to make good use of it. Technology has sure come far. Cheers.
The Brain That Changes Itself by N. Doidge is a book that deserves reading and re-reading as it has been in my case. For years I had been 'schooled' in the fact that brains are set in early childhood and minimal changes could take place. Quite frankly, I didn't believe it (children will do that to you - change all your pre-set notions!). Then comes this wonderful book showing that plasticity exists and how works throughout life. It brings with it, hope.
Just got this from my sister and it's great. Katie Hafner's A ROMANCE ON THREE LEGS: Glenn Gould’s Obsessive Quest for the Perfect Piano. I learned a lot about Canadian institutions in this fascinating book. Glen Gould's story is very complex. Chapters are short and very readable. However, I just couldn't put it down.
It was Darkest Light by Hiromi Goto. Fabulous book!
the last book i read was 'the help'. everyone should read it.
Dr. Siri Paiboun series by Colin Cotterill
Dr. Siri Paiboun, a French-trained physician, is the national coroner of Laos. Set in the 1970s - very good read!
for myself the last great book I read was when my daughter was In the NICU in Calgary from April 1 to July 23 2010 there was two by Canadian journalist Rebbecca Eckler Knocked Up, Wiped and still havenèt finished Toddlers gone wild
I laughed so hard reading these books while I could relate and needed an escape while dealing with the severity of my premature daughter
they were such good books that i passed them on to a few other moms
a premmie at 25 weeks is a tremedenous ordeal and roller coaster ride a novel in itself and thanks to Rebecca Eckler I had a few moments of normality while reading
since then I have not really been able to read any books browsing parenting books I think does not qualify. I highly recommend her novels funny outrageous and love it that she is Canadian
The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown. I love reading and re-reading his books, they really make you think!
The Hunger Games. Thank You for the contest!
My son gave me a book called "The truth about stories" by Thomas King.
He thought I'd really enjoy it and I did! It barely touched my nightstand as I pretty much read the entire book in one evening!
From the archives ... Accident by Danielle Steele. Every parent needs to read this book, fiction or not, unfortunatley it touches home to many. A real eye opener
Truly a great read!
Stephen King's 11/22/63 was the last really good book I read. I heard they're making a movie as well, but I usually don't enjoy them as much as his books.
The Hunger Games trilogy - awesome read!
Robyn Carr's Redwood Bend, I'm not quite finished but I love it.
Oh dear me, I guess I am a bit different in the books I read, but I loved "Steve Jobs" by Walter Issaacson! I like to read biographies and non fiction books the most. I rarely enjoy fiction books (eek!). If you want to learn more about Steve Jobs, as a person and as a business person, then I highly recommend reading "Steve Jobs".
IQ84 by Haruki Marukami
Just finished Sophie Kinsella's new one "I've Got You're Number" - Loved it. The more I got into it the harder it was to put down.

The Book of Negroes
Fire and Graceling by Kristin Cashore. SO good!
I have read so very many books lately as I usually do so I will have to pick one as they were all pretty great. I loved "Water for Elephants" and The Spellman Series (series of 4 books presently) by Lisa Lutz. The story is about a family of PI's and it is laugh out loud funny at times.
Thanks so much for the chance to win! I am such the avid reader that I don't have even 6 inches of area left in my house for print books. I have wanted an e-reader for a long time now.
The Help!
The last great book I read was The Lifeguard by James Patterson.
The last great book I read was "Lucky Man" by Michael J. Fox. He is a great Canadian actor who shared his disadvantage with the world to help others who are in the same disposition. All around great read.
THE GREAT GATSBY
GRAVITY’S RAINBOW

Against All Enemies by T. Clancy
any of the books in the Dragon Tatoo series by Stieg Larsson, i just finished the series, was addicted from book one to end!
The last great book I read is 'the girl who disappeared twice' by andrea kane
Last book I read long time ago was Lance Armstrong's books on his cancer journey.
I just finished The Big Miss by Hank Haney. It's about coaching Tiger Woods. I am not a lover of Tiger or golf but I really enjoyed this inside look into an unknown world.
The Hunger Games Trilogy
The last book I read was Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets... I know it sounds odd lol but I read the book when I was a child and I had a "craving" to read it again.
Just finished Stephen Kings Under the Dome, it was fantastic, thanks
The Hunger Games - really good

The last good book read by Mommy was Explosive Eighteen by Janet Evanovich - a light, laugh-out-loud, easy-to-read while at children's activities book!
The last great book I read was "My Bookie Wook" by Russell Brand. For all his foppish outward appearance and chequered life, he is nonetheless a most thoughtful, witty and eloquent writer.
I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore (a pseudonym for James Frey and Jobie Hughes) I just loved this book & couldn't put it down, full of suspense, brilliant!
Aliens and their Guardians are hiding on Earth from intergalactic bounty hunters. They can only be killed in numerical order, and Number Four is next...
The last great book I read was Deadlocked. I loved it, couldn't put it down, lots of suspense and I plan to read it again!

The last great book I read was 'The Paris Wife' by Paula Mclain. It is an autobiographical fiction of Ernest Hemingway's first wife and her life with a young Hemingway in Paris. It transported me to another era and it's one book that I could read again.
Since I had major surgery 3 weeks ago, I have enjoyed some quiet time and have read several books, including some romance, mystery and more. Couple of the titles included High Noon, and Left Behind ... first book of the series that I plan to continue reading through the next few weeks since I had bought my husband the complete set a few years ago.
I just read the Hunger Games Trilogy. Great, easy, fun read. Some of my favorite books are Still Alice, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, Water For Elephants, The Girls.
I've got lots of books on the go right now ... I'm readying Catching Fire (the second in The Hunger Games series), 50 Shades of Grey, and our book club selection, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Clearly, I could really use a new eReader to keep track of it all! :)

I just read The Quiet Game by Greg Isles great book!
A Breath of Snow and Ashes by Diana Gabaldon. LOVE everything she writes!

I reread for the 10th time I am sure...Elizabeth Gaskell's North & South. I can read that any day!
I am reading third book from the Fifty Shades of Grey series-FiftyShades Freed wishing the whole time there was more to the series.
Just finished reading the Book, The Firm, by John Grisham and I must say it was oh so much better than the movie that was out many years ago that starred Tom Cruise. If you ever have an opportunity to read one of John Grisham's novels please do so. They are so suspense and plot filled with many twists and turns and keep you turning the pages as quick as you can just to see what is going to happen next.
Just finished reading Stephan King's 11/22/63-not a typical Stephan King book. A magical time-travel premise where the lead character goes back in time to save President Kennedy from the assassin's bullet. Charming and not-so-charming descriptions of late 50's/early 60's culture and happenings in America. Lots of nostalgia and great drama.
Of course I mea...Stephen King:-)

RU by Kim Thuy
The Game of Thrones
I'm a tandem reader with two tomes on the go most times (when I have the time ...)
I've just finished My Stroke of Insight, by Jill Bolte Talylor a brain scientist/neuroanatomist Harvard PhD grad who suffered a debilitating stroke and within 8 trying years 'made it back' - this is a must read for anyone interested in 'what goes on inside' when communication and other abilities are at bottom, and how the entire community matters.
I've also just read Christopher Buckley's endearing account of life as a no-sib-51-year-old 'orphaned' with memories of accomplished parents, William F Buckley and Patricia Taylor Buckley. This book highlights their last year together as both died within months of each other. A solid insightful read about CB's frustrations and compassion caring for elderly parents, he maintains some equanimity with a good dose of humour .... this is a good one for Mother's Day and upcoming Pa's Day reflections. .... and it made me glad to have had two kids who, together, will get to share the groans and hysterics through this matriarch's advancing years!!
A kobo vox would make it easier to capture those elusive moments waiting in line-ups
or transit commuting, without having to carry heavy books - plus library access would be easier for some of us handi-capable folks~!!
I really enjoyed Before the Poison by Peter Robinson.
I tend to have two books on the go at one time as well. I most recently read The Art of Racing in the Rain, and Heaven is for Real. Both great books!
